Chapter 9: TRAPPED AT THE MOMENT
Read online · About 5 minutesSunny's POV
I continued glancing at him from my back. Was I being too obvious?
I quickly grabbed one of the books beside me and covered my face with it. When I realized that it was upside-down, I wanted to evaporate from where I am standing right now.
It is really embarrassing. What surprised me is the reaction I had when I bumped on him.
It's the first time that I felt awkward when acting in front of a guy. Was it because I am trapped in a teenager's body?
Gross.
However, I felt my heart racing wild. I couldn't even understand the rush of weird emotions all of a sudden.
My neck went longer when I tried looking for him. As far as I could remember, I just saw his face for less than ten seconds. But I am sure I will remember his face when I'll be meeting him once more.
My steps went faster as I went out from the shelf of comic books. I felt so unlucky because I was too focused on his face I haven't noticed what he's wearing. I looked from left to right and sighed. I couldn't see him anywhere.
I went to the other aisles and pulled some educational books for college. I never knew it caught the attention of most people inside the library.
"Huh? Can she read that already? She's still young..."
"She's one, weird kid."
Whoah, judgemental adults.I never thought I'll be looked down like this, at this age from a long time ago. Am I not capable of reading it for myself? If only they know that I am a seventy-six-year-old trapped in a fourteen-year-old teenager.
I secretly grinned at them. I just want to think that they will be dead by 2020 somehow. It made me happy. They could backbite all they want. They'll die anyway soon. I am sure they will be the first to die before I do.
I sat on one of the tables. I never thought reading alone could be this boring. As I opened the books that I usually read, I felt dizzy all of a sudden.
I looked at the contents of the book and the letters were like dancing in my sight. I rubbed both my eyes and looked at the first five pages of the book. I scanned it but I never understood any word.
"W-What's this?" I muttered as I tried reading a lot of words but they're like special characters that I have never seen before. I stood up and stomped my feet as I went towards the kind librarian.
"Ma'am..."
"Yes, dear?" She smiled as she looked at me.
"I just want to ask things about this book." She leaned closer to me as she glanced what book I got for myself.
"Hmm...that's one of my favorite educational books in Psychology. What do you want to ask? Maybe I could help?"
"No, not about the content, ma'am," I couldn't help but to bite my lower lip. Should I ask what's in my mind? She might think I am crazy or stupid.
"Can you read the contents?" I opened it for her to check for herself. She smiled as she looked at the book and a minute more, she shifted her gaze at me.
"Why?Which part do you find it hard to understand?"
"E-Everything," I stuttered. I avoided my gaze at her, she couldn't help but chuckle.
"Of course my dear! You're still young to understand the contents of that book. Should you be reading anything from it? I could summarize it for you if you want,"
"No, ma'am. That's not what I mean. You know, in my past life, I could understand the contents. But now, they're only special characters. You know what I mean?" She raised one of her eyebrows as she gave me a weird look.
"Past life?"
"Ma'am, I know I may sound weird but it is true." I whispered as I leaned closer to her. She hovered her gaze from my head and downwards and met my eyes again.
"Are you really okay? Have you eaten?" I groaned as I looked at her.
Right. There's no way she would believe in me. How could I ever explain to her that I came from 2020 when it is only 1957? I could see her pulling something from her pocket as she glanced at me.
"Here," I am a bit surprised when she handed me a dollar bill. She smiled as she placed it on my opened palms and closed it.
"I know you need it the most. If you're hungry, please buy something that you liked using that amount."
She left before I even reacted. Do I look like a beggar right now? I rubbed my cheeks with both of my hands. I couldn't help but frown because I am feeling annoyed. I followed her with my gaze and I could see that she only had good intentions.
I sighed as I slowly walked outside the public library. It still confused me so much that I can't read what's in the book.
Have I become dumb after going back to my past life? Whoever did this to me intended to really make my life suffer so much. How I wish my memory of 2020 was also gone as I go back to this period of my life.
I remembered my mom and what I left back home. I walked as fast as I could without looking back. I hope mom is not going back yet because if she did, I will surely be dead.
I brisk-walked and I could see myself running until I reached our doorstep. I twitched the doorknob as I opened our door. I sighed with relief when I saw that nobody was around. I started walking to the kitchen, cleaned the sink and washed the remaining dishes.
I couldn't help but stop and smile when I remember his face. Will I see him again? I wish our paths will cross again.
