Chapter 28: BRING ME BACK TO THE PRESENT
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny’s POV
I glanced at him to see what he has been doing. I practice reading the assignment that Miss Marlyn left with me. I also noticed he was reading his sets of books. He caught me gazing at him and his smile. It made me avoid my gaze right away.
I heard him chuckle a little as he closed his books. I am starting to feel nervous if he will pay much attention to me rather than to the things he's supposed to be doing. I hate it when he is treating me as his priority.
“You know what? You are stricter than Miss Marlyn. I am thinking of hating you this time." He smiled as a response, not even minding my warning.
“Well, I am not doing this for myself but I am doing it for you. I want you to finish everything so that we can proceed with another lesson.”
I frowned, however, he got some point there.
"Yeah, that's what I am supposed to be doing, right?"
"Trust yourself more. You know what? I already put my confidence that you can actually do it."
He gave me a thumbs up sign as he smiled from ear to ear. I sighed and started to read another text aloud in front of him. He nodded in agreement. I am happy that he looked satisfied with how I read it.
“Wow, you’re doing great, Sunny! I honestly mean it. Keep it up!”
“Yep. I want my future self to be thankful for what I am doing now, you know.”
"Of course. That's what we're supposed to do. Think of our future that would be bright ahead of us."
I nodded in a fun way while grinning. He couldn't help but to stare at me in a fun, weird way. He chuckled with glee. I know he would agree with me from this area of learning. Who would’ve wanted to be left behind, right? I have my two personal tutors. There's no way for me to back out from what I have started.
I agree with what he said. I know he’s only concerned about how I will improve even more. After I read everything he wanted me to finish, we sat next to each other as we looked at the horizon. The vast meadow in front of the high hill where the tree is standing tall is looking majestic. I love the simplicity of life this time has to offer. It's the year 1957. People could still appreciate our nature's goodness and advantages more than the profit they could make.
Also, air pollution is not even evident because there were lots of trees standing tall among the houses in the suburbs. They looked lovely and refreshing to the eyes.
“Wow, I am not used to you being so quiet, Sunny.” Tyler smiled as he commented. I never noticed I was silent for a long time.
“Well, sometimes you should expect that. I am naturally quiet and timid, you know.”
“Not these past few days, though. I can see that' you’re more confident when it comes to speaking, reading, and writing a lot of things. I am proud of you.”
“Thank you so much! If not for you and Miss Marlyn’s help, these will not be possible.”
He looked up to the cloudy skies. He reached both of his hands to the rays of the gentle sun peeping through the shade of the large tree above us.
“It’s very fine weather. It’s not too cool nor too hot.”
“Yeah, you must be going here a lot, right?”
“Not really. I am just going here whenever I am free. It’s a part of my family’s property. That's why I am very much familiar here.”
“Wow, more like a secret hideout or something?”
He laughed because of what I said. “Well, kinda. Whatever you call it, then.”
“Do you bring a lot of your friends here?”
“You’re the first to go here, Sunny.”
“That’s nice,” I said. I couldn’t help but be glad about what he showed to me. I am happy that he’s giving me this kind of trust that nobody has ever given to me my whole childhood. Wait...I can’t even remember all of these from the past.
“I am not used to see you being quite like this.” I smiled at him as I meet his gaze. He looked worried as he studied my expression.
“I am just thinking about something.”
“I don’t mind if you share it with me.” He replied, sounded very willing to listen to me. I sighed as I looked at him.
“As if you’re going to believe me easily.”
“Well, you will not know if you will not try. What is it? Is it about your mom again?”
“No. It’s more about me, Tyler.”
“You? What about you?” He looked puzzled now, looking at me from head to toe. It’s as if he’s expecting unusual for me to confess to him. Well, it’s more than what he expects.
“I am not from this time, Tyler,” I said and as I waited for his reaction, he seemed unbothered. Instead, he’s looking at me too. It’s like he’s expecting me to say more.
“Is that it? Wait, what do you mean?”
“Well, what I mean is I came from the future.” Upon hearing the words I said, he burst out laughing.
“I never knew you will have that kind of imagination.”
“But I'm not joking!”
He looked chill and cool. He’s not even impressed about what I just said.
“You know what? You can become a great writer someday.” I smiled awkwardly. Well, that’s exactly true. I am a writer in 2020. I am even a world-renowned writer and scriptwriter under the pen name, Sunny G.
“See? I told you. There are things that it is hard to explain and believe no matter how you will prove it.”
“Sorry to offend you, Sunny. It’s never my intention. Let’s just change the topic for you to not get angry at me.”
“Alright, will the library be opened tomorrow, then?”
“Yes, I am sure of it.”
I won't blame Tyler now. He insisted that I must tell him what I felt. Moreover, it doesn’t mean that I will expect that he will agree or believe in anything about it.
“Let’s get you home. I know you will still get ready for some chores before your mom arrives from work.”
I nodded. I hopped on the backseat of his bicycle again and hugged him from behind. I admit he is good at driving a bike for the reason that I couldn't almost feel the bumpy or rough parts of the road.
When we arrived at our front gate, he parked his bike beside the white fence. He handed me some of my notes and a book suited for my reading age.
“Thank you so much for today. I appreciate it so much.”
“It is my pleasure. I will be seeing you tomorrow!” I waved at him and turned my back right away. Hee never left because he’s still observing me from a far distance as I enter our house. He is a real gentleman because he was making sure I am safe. When I glanced at the window of our living room, he was not there anymore.
