Chapter 35: YOU'RE ONLY FOURTEEN
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny's POV
We sat next to each other again. Ever since I went with Tyler on this large tree on top of this hill, we always go here. It's like our secret hideout that nobody has ever discovered.
I always love the place because it is quiet and peaceful. It's like nobody could ever go here but only the two of us. It gave me this feeling of security and freedom that I felt like not experiencing even from the year 2020 where I came.
I still think about what Tyler confessed to me about Miss Marlyn. It is without any doubt that she's more suitable for being a teacher than a librarian, but it's only my opinion.
From what Tyler told me, Miss Marlyn became a librarian because her parents want it for her. On the other hand, her heart is to become an educator for the kids. She was ready to fight for what's in her heart. But then when her parents died from World War 2, she promised in front of their grave that she will fulfill their dreams for her.
I guess some dreams are not worth fighting for, especially if you get to choose the one that you love versus the one that you know you can also benefit and make your parents happy at the same time.
"Wow, you seem to be thinking something serious." I heard Tyler beside me telling me those. When I looked at him, I noticed that he's a bit serious. I realized he's more charming when he does that. I can't help but smile.
"No, not really. I was only thinking about Miss Marlyn and her experiences."
"I guess there are many factors that triggered her to resign just like that."
"I agree. She loved being in the library and helped many bookworms and readers of all ages."
"Yeah, I guess it must be hard on her part." He said, looking down.
"I agree. That's why I don't want to follow my parents as much as possible." I heard him chuckle from what I have replied.
"Wow, are you ready to become the 'black sheep' then?"
"Well, no. Not really 'the' black sheep. I just don't want somebody to force me what I want to become. I don't like that."
"Don't you love your parents?" He asked out of curiosity. I guess he's also studying my facial expression. That's why he resorted to asking that question to me.
"Do you mean if I don't follow what they want from me, it will make me a bad daughter?" He shook his head from left to right as he smiled weakly in front of me.
"You will always know the answer for yourself. I know that,"
"I will always do what makes me happy, Tyler. Our parents only inspire us of what we want to become but in the end, it's always our decision that matters the most."
"You sounded like my grandmother." He said as he laughed. I poked his arm and he squirmed with pain, but only a little.
"Well, what if I am? What if I really time traveled from the future down to this kind of period just to scold you?" He laughed as soon as he heard those words from me.
Yeah, he's right. I could be called a grandma at the age of 76, right? I am a grandma by 2020. However, he never realized it because he couldn't even believe I am not from this year. I came from the future only to live this weird life of mine.
"Well, you never know." I smiled as I said it to him. He looked at me, feeling weird as I heard him sigh.
"You can be young but you could sound as if you experienced a lot in life and you're only fourteen."
Whoah, I hope that's true. I hope that I am also fourteen, too. Being in this kind of situation? Being trapped in the past when I know I could be living in the present is the hardest feeling ever.
"I am always telling you, I am not from this time." He only chuckled as his way of response. Before I began to get mad at him again, I turned to face him as I studied his expression.
"Okay, I will never insist on this one because it sounds too impossible for you," I said as I rolled my eyes.
"But, I am curious about what you wanted to know about the future. C'mon, tell me."
"Tell you what?" He said between laughs as if he couldn't believe I am acting weird again. I am honestly getting annoyed.
He acted as if he wanted to prevent himself from laughing at me and what I am telling him. He tried composing himself until I saw that familiar facial expression again.
"I want to know how modern technology is in the future. I wish I could bring the whole telephone with me so that I will not wait for long queue lines when I want to call someone."
"Gosh, if only you know phones in the future could be big or small. It will be designed to fit in our hands. The exciting part is, you can bring it everywhere you go."
"Whoah?" I looked at him because he's sounding amused more than impressed. It's like he's only reacting that way for me to be happy.
"I hate you," I said, too annoyed I felt like crying any minute by now.
"What is it, this time?" He sounds worried and concerned at the same time.
"You sounded like a joke," I said while pouting my lips. He smiled a little and hugged me to my surprise. It was not too tight yet not too loose, enough to calm my childish behavior. Yeah, I must admit.
I felt he caressed my back as his way of comforting me. Of course, I am like a fool wanting it that way, too.
"I love what you're telling me. Although honestly, it is hard to believe in all of those." He admitted, letting go as he looked into my eyes.
"Don't get me wrong. I felt excited about what you're telling me. It's like I wanted to be in the future right away because of those phones that you describe to me." He said, sounding sincere it touched my heart again.
I sighed as I bit my lower lip. He's too handsome and charming. I can't last the way he looks at me. It's as if he wants to meet all of me the way he would give me his signature 'stare'.
"Alright. I guess I will not bring this topic up again for me to avoid being disappointed with how you react to the things I say."
"I'm so sorry again. I never meant to offend you in any way,you know that."
I glanced at my wristwatch. It's already five in the afternoon. I told Tyler that he must return me to the library because Mr. Athkinson's driver will pick me up at six in the evening.
"I am excited about what is happening in your life, Sunny. I hope you will never forget me if you'll be successful someday."
