Her Destined Ride — Chapter 32: JUST FANCY, NOT USEFUL

She didn't know what to feel because it's the first official meeting of Sunny and Mr. Athkinson. Because of too much excitement, she took a bath right after she woke up and everything was all set. She’s thankful that she could move too fast because of the routines that she has been following when she was still living in the year 2020.

Sunny went to the dining table after her mom knocked on the door. Mr. Athkinson's maids were assisting them as they prepared breakfast for Sunny and her mom. She looked so happy as she was seated next to him.

Sunny looked at him very well as he observed him closely. He is very simple when it comes to the way he dressed. Not ragged-looking, yet not overly sophisticated. He's handsome with the way he would smile, yet you can never see his teeth showing up. Sunny assumed that his personality is really like this. Gentle yet he has this strict aura that he has with him wherever he will go.

The way he would look at her in the eyes is subtle and gentle. Overall, he's looking harmless. Sunny liked him right away for her mom. She could say she had a good taste after all.

"It was nice to meet you at last," He said with a friendly tone of voice as he extended her hands for a handshake. Sunny couldn't help but swallow. She's a bit nervous when it comes to encounters like this.

"Me too, Mr. Athkinson. It's a pleasure to know you. Thank you for allowing us to live here." I nodded in a polite manner. He chuckled at what I did.

"You are my new family and I would love to see both of you here often. I hope you will enjoy your stay here in this house." He chuckled. I noticed my mom who was getting emotional because of what she's been hearing from both of us. I guess she just can't believe we're both getting along very well without her helping the both of us as well.

“You know what, Lilian? Your daughter is modest. She’s too formal for a fourteen-year-old child.” He added as he turned beside him.

"I don't know. All I know is, I am teaching her life's lessons first and I believe the rest would follow."

He chuckled that I couldn't almost see his eyes anymore because he’s smiling a lot. I noticed that he has a gentle nature that anybody could easily get along with.

“Oh, Mr. Atkinson, that’s her attitude.”

“I admire her upbringing. She’s well-raised. That’s my first impression of her, dear.” He looked at him as he nodded. I saw my mom blushing too much that she can’t look at him directly because of my presence.

"Loves, breakfast is ready! We can't be talking the whole day, right?" My mom changed the topic before the conversation gets longer.

Sunny smiled as she sat beside them. They had a great breakfast. The cook prepared sausages, hash browns, and grilled chicken for them to share.

Sunny considered it a hearty meal. Hearty in a sense that except for great food placed on the table, they were all acting as if the three of them are one, big, happy family. After they enjoyed their breakfast, Mr. Atkinson talked to Sunny more about random things. She was able to ride a car that is one of the latest models for this year, the 1957 Corvette.

She never thought her mom would be this impressed. Mr. Athkinson was the one who personally drove for them. Although she knew he let his bodyguards follow them for safety as well.

"Do you really have to do this?" My mom looked worried, however he held her hands.

"This is where I started. Being a driver and driving different cars, trying out some. It will be so smooth."

"Wow! I love it dear. However, please take care even more, just to make sure."

"I will, sweetheart."

After the car parked to where they were going, her mom was the one who opened the door of the car because she can't wait any longer.

She could feel her mom’s excitement as she went inside the stalls and shops of those vintage dresses. Now, Sunny is getting it. All those vintage dresses that her mom has been wearing sometimes came from Mr. Athkinson.

She thinks that it is also Mr. Athkinson that convinces her to wear make-up on her face. She could see that she is good with it. She assumed that Mr. Athkinson hired a beautician to teach her how to do it as well. Sunny is just smiling as she watches her mom fancying over the dresses worn by the mannequin.

“Which do you think is better, the floral or the striped one?”

“I guess the striped one is better, mom.” She nodded in agreement. She smiled sweetly as she told the seller that she’ll be taking it.

“How about you, dear? What do you want?”

Sunny looked around and sighed. She’s not into shopping, real talk. She’s having too much of it from where she came from and she found herself coming back to do this one again. She's sick and tired of it. However, her mom is asking her about what she wanted to buy for herself. She grabbed the T-shirt with a print of a paint company.

“Here! It’s nice, isn’t it?” Sunny even grinned as she placed the T-shirt to her chest as if showing her mom that she loved it so much.

My mom looked at Sunny as if she couldn’t believe what she heard.

“What?”

“Mom, I’m serious. This is the fashion that I wanted, you know, T-shirt being tucked-in with loose jeans.” She frowned as she folded her arms.

“Don’t insist on something that’s nonsense. I want you to wear dresses from time to time. I want my daughter to be beautiful just like me.”

She sighed once again and accepted the three dresses she dumped in front of her. Lilian asked her daughter to try all of those dresses. Sunny hated everything but then it’s her mother’s request. She just couldn’t say no.

Sunny noticed that Mr. Athkinson is just looking at her mom from a far distance. He looked so happy and supportive about her buying some stuff, mostly not even useful. Sunny thought that she could only see those scenes in a movie. She almost believed that it is not happening in real life until this moment happens. She realized that it’s the best feeling ever! She loves how Mr. Athkinson gazed at her contently.

As they go home, Sunny is just listening to her mother’s chatty nature. Most of the time, Sunny noticed that her mother is serious and silent most of the time. However, this time, things happened differently. She’s happy and talkative. It’s not being herself, it’s being what she is that Sunny is not familiar with.

“Thank you, Mr. Athkinson.” Sunny smiled for the first time. It’s not bad to share this kind of smile, especially that she witnessed how Mr. Athkinson treated her mom at last.

“No worries dear.” Mr. Athkinson replied, tapping her shoulders. How Sunny wished she would find the love of a father from him. She’s praying that this relationship will last, unlike the failed love her mother from her father received.
