Chapter 24: MOVING OUT
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny's POV
I looked at my mom to confirm if I am hearing what she said clearly. She raised her eyebrows as I swallowed.
"H-He's...he's a friend." I narrowed my gaze, trying to avoid her judgemental look on me.
"Since when did you start being friends with someone I didn't know?"
She looked so mad that I couldn't help but swallow hard, I could choke on my saliva anytime.
"Mom, I will tell you about him but then the timing isn't right as always..." I reasoned out and yet her facial reaction is not changing at all.
"How dare you even make friends with a random guy? C'mon, Sunny."
"What is wrong with it, mom? I never judge yours anyway." I can see her clenching her teeth as she glared at me. Maybe because I kept on reasoning out despite that I am decades younger than her.
Gosh, if only she knew that she's facing a 76-year old woman trapped inside a teenager's body. She would be really shocked. I know she can't believe it no matter how I tell her about it. I don't want my mother would be the one to tell me that I am crazy.
"And how many times will I ever tell you that going to town is dangerous? You might never know somebody who will be after your life," She simply changed the topic with the same thought. She also looked worried though. But, seriously? How can she think about that when Mr. John is the one who's terrifying of them all? If only mom knows Mr. John's true colors...she will despise him so much.
"Who told you these things?" I asked her at last.
"It was Mr. John, dear. He told me everything. He saw you when he happened to buy something around town."
I frowned. Hmm, sounds convincing but not for me. Even Tyler knows what his real intention is.
"That's why I have decided to think about his proposal. You have to be in school as soon as possible."
"How could you easily trust someone you barely knew, mom? Just because he's good at other people, it doesn't mean we could be complacent any time."
"Sunny, think about the practical side of things. I don't think Mr. John would offer a great deal if he couldn't see your potential as a student. He even told me that you're a promising one."
"But mom! What if I don't want to? Would you insist on this to me?"
"Why don't you like it? Mr. John is a good man. He's like a father concerned to his daughter like you."
Seriously? She doesn't even know Mr. John and his real intentions to me.
"What do you know, mom? You're not even here to look after me as often as possible." I said with full sarcasm to her. I hope she can sense it. She looked at me as if she can't believe the words she heard from me.
"Stop this nonsense, Sunny. Always bear in mind that my intentions were only for your good and nothing else!" Any daughter could be frightened by her raging voice, but not me. I am not even impressed by it. Did she ever feel what I feel? Does she know my pain? She's not even asking if I am okay.
"But if I will entrust my future to others is not right, too. I don't want others to think that I became successful because I am a gold digger or a sugar daddy is financing me."
"How could you even say that?" My mom said as she gasped with disbelief. I just smiled with sarcasm as a result.
"Can you even hear yourself and what you're saying right now?" She exclaimed while clenching her fists.
"In short, you can't force me what to do."
"See? Look what you're showing now! You're being stubborn. I don't know what to do with you anymore!" She said, whining. It's as if all the smoke were going outside her nose and mouth as well. She looked like a mother dragon.
"Let me do anything you want me to do, except living in the house of Mr. John. I don't see myself working for him as he uses his money for me to go to school." I said straightforwardly. My mom suddenly became speechless as she shook her head slowly.
"You can't always stay the same forever, Sunny. Please think about the bright future ahead of you."
"I will always reach my goals even without depending all of me to other people. We're two, different worlds, mom."
"If you insist on your own, you will not like what I am going to do."
"My word is final. I will not work for Mr. John, nor live in his house and work for the money he'll spend on my education." I answered her casually. She left without saying a word. I smiled because I guess I have won an argument with her. I think she's taking what I have said into consideration. I guess my approval of her boyfriend made her rethink things, including my small request.
I am dead serious about it. I don't imagine myself living with Mr. John and being paranoid about what he's going to do with me.
I told everything to Tyler and he tapped me on my shoulders.
"Yes. Any parent should be considerate of their children's wishes or small requests. How could you concentrate on studying if you're always preoccupied with worries?"
"I don't trust that man. You also observed what he's like, right?"
"I agree. Don't you ever accept what your mom has fated for you? If you can think of a better way to succeed and you're happy with it, start pursuing it."
He said as she nodded. I couldn't stop hugging him tightly as we sit facing each other inside the library. We're standing in one of the aisles as he helped me find some useful books to read.
"If you also ask Ms. Marlyn, she will tell the same. She will not be in favor of your mom's decision." I let go of him and looked down. I couldn't afford blushing like a red tomato about to burst at any time.
"What? Did I heard it right?" Miss Marlyn sounded shocked as we also told her what my mom decided upon me.
"It is not possible. No mom could ever do that to their child! It's like abandoning their child completely at all!"
"Well, my mom is an exception to the rule."
"I guess your mom could easily decide on things because you're not even close to starting with..." Tyler added as he leaned closer to Sunny's lap.
"I guess that's one of the reasons, dear." Miss Marlyn added in a low voice
"I promise, if there's an opportunity for me to improve my skills or to even go to school, I will be the one to grab it."
"That's the spirit, Sunny!" We had a high-five with Tyler.
"We're always on your back ready to support you with anything. Just don't hesitate to ask for help." Miss Marlyn added as she hugged her tight as well.
"I know guys. What will I ever do without you guys? You're all too great for me! Thank you!"
