Chapter 29: MOVING OUT PLAN
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny's POV
Everything was all set when mom arrived home. I already cooked mom's most requested meal from me. She loves eating stewed meat and vegetables almost every day, without even getting tired of it. She told me to eat my dinner quickly because she's about to tell me something important. That's what she said.
Well, I guess something's weird is about to happen. She seldom does this 'very important' announcement. From her personality, I could say that she's timid and she would always prefer being silent.
I guess this is the moment that I am also anticipating. The timing is also great since I also want to tell her something very important for me, too.
This time, I also badly wanted her to know that I am taking advantage of the public library for my growth when it comes to my growth in learning. I could sense that this is another heart-to-heart talk and I don't want to miss it out for myself.
“Dear, we have to move to Mr. Athkinson’s house tomorrow.”
“What?” I couldn't help but exclaim in a raised voice. I admit I am surprised because it is sooner than what I have expected to happen. Really? That quick? They must be joking or something.
“Yes. He wanted to know you in person. He also wanted our relationship to be official at last.”
“Why is it that it is too soon? I am not even prepared yet.”
“I am so sorry for the very short notice, dear. However, we have to. I also long to be one of the hosts of a big mansion and not as a housekeeper forever.”
“Is Mr. Atkinson serious about it?"
"Why would he insist if he's only joking?"
"I don't mean it that way. I am just thinking about maybe he's telling you that we will move into his house because he could see that you wanted it so bad.”
“He wanted us to move in tomorrow. He hired a private teacher for you in advance. It is to prepare you for the incoming enrollment that will be in two months.”
“But mom, are you sure I'll be admitted to senior high? I didn’t even go to primary school. What about my documents? What about my eligibility?” She scoffed, trying to be patient in dealing with those follow-up questions.
“That’s why I insist you to agree about moving in by tomorrow. Mr. Athkinson assured me that he's in charge of anything. He said that making me worry is never on his list.”
I smiled at her, the kind that she also did the same and even winked at me.
“Wow...I never knew that my mom has that kind of charm.” I even emphasized that last word from what I said. I couldn’t help but comment on what she confessed just now. If that’s the case, then who am I to argue? After all, upon hearing what my mom is telling me right now, I can say Mr. Athkinson is earnest about his love for my mom. He even cared about my education. I am touched that he’ll have to take care of it himself.
I heard that Mr. Athkinson is a wealthy man. He’s got a lot of businesses, especially car dealership. There’s no way he couldn’t grant my simple wish of being educated at last.
“Very well, then. I will start to pack my things, mom. Shall we bring some more things aside from our clothes?”
“No, dear. Please pack up your clothes but don’t bring all of them. We’ll go shopping tomorrow. Mr. Athkinson told me that he’d love to accompany us to buy what we need.”
“Oh, is he trying to impress you that much, mom?
"I guess so. In fact, he's more excited on the move out, more than I am."
"That’s great news.”
“I know, my dear. That’s why he’s just easy to love because she’s very kind and considerate. Many people would love to have his love. But of course, there could be only one."
“Gosh, you’re the real winner, mom.” I couldn’t help but chuckle upon seeing my mom’s reaction. She’s like a teenager being in love for the first time.
“Well, now that you agreed to our relationship, I can talk to you freely about him, right?”
“Mom, if Mr. Athkinson is making you happy, I will also feel very happy for you. Please don’t worry about a thing. I will understand.”
My mom rushed to hug me tight. It was the second time around, hence it makes my heart warm with happiness and pride. Seeing my mom like this is everything for me. I wonder why I can't remember this memory from the year 2020 that I come from.
I now wonder why. Am I too young that I couldn’t remember such a thing even from my childhood? Why is this memory not even existing in the year 2020? Did I come back only to recall this particular memory that is already non-existent in the present time?
“C’mon, I will help you pack your things. I know your clothes were a bit heavy. We’ll have to prepare because we’ll be leaving as early as five in the morning.”
“Is Mr. Athkinson’s house far from ours, mom?”
“It is approximately seven kilometers from here, dear.” I nodded as I bit my lower lip. Oh no, how can I ever go back to the library when we’re going to move out? Oh my, I haven’t even got the chance to say goodbye to Tyler and Miss Marlyn. I will go without informing them that I will be living in a new house farther than ours, much farther than the library, this time.
I opened my room, and mom started to open the cabinets. I got my big bag with two handles with a zipper in between and opened it. I saw her starting to fold my clothes one by one as she started to put it inside. She’s even humming with happiness. As I look at her, I am having my second thoughts. Is this the right time to tell her about what I am doing in the library?
“M-Mom?”
“What is it, dear?”
“What do you think of the public library?”I swallowed as she suddenly stopped from what she was doing and looked at me.
“Why do you ask that?”
“N-Nothing. You know, I only want to know your reaction if you have been there or not".
“I hate that place.” She said, not even looking at me. Instead, she continued what she’s been doing.
Now, I am more confused. Why will mom hate a place where learning and fun take place at the same time?
“May I know why? I noticed many people loved going there. There were thousands of books to choose from.”
This time, I am more curious about why, of all places, will mom hate the library the most. She looked at me and sighed. Her reaction suddenly went from happiness to gloom real quick.
“Do you want to know the reason why?"
I gazed into her eyes as her reaction went blank. I can tell she is not liking the whole idea of recalling everything about it.
“That’s where I met your father, Sunny.”
