Chapter 33: MEETING FATE
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny’s POV
The next morning, I was shocked when my mom woke me up earlier than usual. Wow, it's not her usual thing to do but now? She looked more inspired than ever.
“Hmmm…” I sounded impatient as I stretched my limbs. She kept on shaking my body in a gentle way. She even tickled both of my waist that I couldn't help but laugh.
“My baby, get up. We have a lot of things to do.” She sounded giddy and excited again. I don’t know if I will still be happy about it. She’s too active and happy it is sometimes scary for me. Right, for the first time feels like.
“Mom, you’re not a housekeeper anymore. You don’t have to wake me up early.” I said between laughs. I have to remind her of this just in case she forgot already. She grinned from ear to ear as she pinched both of my cheeks.
“Oh dear, I agree with that. But then I scheduled a spa at exactly five in the morning. We’ll be pampering ourselves the whole day. When I say, ‘whole day’, I mean it so much!”
Oh my gosh, here we go again. I want to freak the hell out of here and go somewhere far from mom. I don’t like the way she’s bringing me wherever she goes.
“Okay,” I got up from bed, slowly and zombie-like. I brushed my teeth as I faced the mirror. Can I decide on my own? I guess I can’t choose my own since mom is enjoying the whole thing.
I realized she followed me to the bathroom. I was too surprised I almost jumped because mom is already standing behind me.
“Mom! Can you stay outside? You acted like a ghost appearing right from behind me!”
She giggled as she put both of her hands on both of my shoulders. “Dear, I am so sorry. I am just excited about what ‘being pampered’ truly means. Can you imagine that? We’ll be sitting and lying and making ourselves beautiful the whole day!”
“Mom, I heard what you said as soon as you entered my room.”
“Well, I don’t want how you react to everything that I said.”
“Oh well, I guess…’yeheeey’?”
“Even if you’re my daughter, I want to hate you so much!”
“Mom, before you hate me, please go out. I am not yet done brushing my teeth. Do your drama later, alright?”
I pushed her outside and closed the door in front of me. I held the handle of my toothbrush again and brushed my teeth up and down as I looked at my face. Mom is very lucky to have a love life of her own. As far as I can remember, in the year 2020 I can’t remember every man I dated because they’re so numerous but none of them interest me the most. At seventy-six, I am still living my singlehood to the fullest.
What she’s showing now is quite understandable but not to the point of creeping me out so much!
When I was all set, wearing the ‘fashion’ style I suggested to mom after our argument last night, I grinned looking at my outfit of the day in the mirror. I hovered my gaze from my head down to my feet. A pair of rubber shoes gave me an amazing fashion sense, I am beginning to feel proud of myself.
“Look at you! That is unacceptable for me!” My mom frowned as she walked near me as she scoffed. It’s like she’s breathing fire because she’s getting mad for what I have decided to wear for today.
“Mom, do you know the reason why I wear this instead of the dress you suggested to me?”
“And what is in your mind right now?”
“Of course! You’re already wearing a dress. Would you like your daughter to be more beautiful than you?” I saw her as she twisted her lips as she glanced at me.
"Well, I am not sure of what you're really talking about." I said, shaking my head as I looked at her.
She was speechless for a minute. I am sure she’s thinking about what I just said, of me having a point somehow.
"I am just imagining what you would look like in a dress."
"Don't expect me to like it, though. It is not my style. Have you seen a tomboy wearing a dress?" I sounded as if challenging her.
"I can't believe you're my daughter." She jokingly retorted.
"I am." I answered right away, grinning.
“Gosh, you got me there. Alright, alright…” She muttered as she sighed. She turned her back to me right away because she knew I'm just following her.
I have to be enthusiastic about my mom. When we reached the place, I could see a lot of people doing a lot of spa services for their clients. I lay flat on my back and my mom is just beside me, lying flat on the back on the other bed.
I closed my eyes until I am drowsing myself off to sleep. I am still sleepy and tired but I am just keeping it up for her.
We ate our late breakfast at exactly 10:00 A.M. and my dreaded fashion style was ruined because mom wanted me to wear a dress. Bad news, she still bought that dress even if I already told her that I hated it.
"Isn't it cool? What do you think? It is more lady-like than what you're suggesting to me."
"Mom, this isn't fashioned when someone is not liking what he/she is wearing."
"I am your mother. I know what's best for you." I rolled my eyes as my reply. I just made sure she didn't see it.
I had my manicure and pedicure plus foot spa. I also had my foot scrub and body scrub as well. The massage is relaxing and it soothes my tired muscles.
We had the whole day for ourselves. We had fun and I never thought we could bond like we are very close to each other. It's all because of Mr. Athkinson and his good heart. He's very supportive and kind to my mother. I can't help but be touched because he is a great guy.
I am somehow happy that my mom is enjoying the thing she's been praying for so long. She achieved what she wanted at last, although what happened to my father is a bit tragic.
I am sorry for him because of the life he only had for her. If only mom was content and happy then I can tell I have a complete family of my own.
"Dear...are you happy today?" My mom asked me as she nudged my arm.
"Yes, mom. The spa treatment is so relaxing."
"See? I told you. You will enjoy it so much more than I do."
"I noticed we had a great chance of bonding together ever since we moved in here."
"Yeah. I am glad that you're liking the idea of staying here for good."
"How was Mr. Athkinson by the way?"
"I am happy to know him more, mom. Now, I know why you learned to love him so much, I hope I can also see a man like him in the future."
