Her Destined Ride — Chapter 45: HEART-STOPPING MOMENT

Sunny's POV

We shared a simple breakfast. I prefered to be silent so that I'll not be included in their argument.

"We can go shopping since today is a family day." Mr. Athkinson suggested as soon as we're done with it.

"I have a lot of dresses already. I am not also in the mood for it so I'll pass."

"What about you, Sunny? Any suggestions?"

"I just want to stay at home, Mr. Athkinson."

He sighed and smiled like he always used to.

They looked at each other again and we've finally concluded to just stay at home and play some indoor games. As for me, I have to go to my room to study my lessons. How I wish it will be Monday already. Even if I won't be talking to Tyler that much, I can somehow see him and everything will be alright.

As I went in my room,I got my bag again and emptied it. Without my mother knowing, I have kept seven written letters from Tyler already. I inhaled as I decided to reread those again.

October 16,1957

My dearest Sunny,

Thank you for spending time with me today.

You never knew how much I am thankful that you're just being my side hearing me out. You never knew how happy I am knowing I have someone who will listen to me with anything I will tell her.

You're like a ray of sunshine bringing hope to everyone around you. I will always cherish this day and the days to come. Please reach for your dreams but don't ever forget me.

P.S: Please be a scientist. I guess if I will see you being one someday, you will make my dream come true.

I folded the letter following how Tyler did it when he gave it to me. I can't help but be giddy about seeing this hand-written letter. I realized that I never needed a lot of material things in this world. Sometimes, the thing that makes me happy are the things given by someone with their effort in it.

Reading Tyler's letter alone could make me feel happy and complete throughout the day, no matter I'm feeling bad about it. It's like taking a happy pill whenever I will look at his neat cursive handwriting.

"My daughter can never get married." Lilian firmly said as Mr. Athkinson hugged her from behind. They were inside their room, still arguing about the matter.

"Honey, I am very sorry about what I said earlier. I guess you have mistaken my point."

"Adrian, I am not dumb. I know what you meant when you said that Sunny could have a brighter future by doing this." Lilian, Sunny's mother is almost teary-eyed.

"I am so sorry, I will not bring this up again. Hush now, alright?" Mr. Athkinson tried to hug her but Lilian removed his arm from her waist. She even turned her back at him as she sobbed.

"Don't you ever dare decide what's best for my daughter because I am the only one who could do it for her and not you."

Lilian gazed at their door and she never realized it was open for a long time. A familiar figure was standing frozen in front of them.

It was Sunny! And she's giving them both a blank expression. They were very sure she heard everything that they've talked about.

"Sunny! Please, let me explain!" Lilian cried as she rushed towards the door. However, it's a little late because Lilian ran towards her room and locked it.

"Sunny, please open the door! Let us explain! Please!"

"Leave me alone," She said in a calmed tone. Not angry but loud enough for the people outside her room to hear what she wanted the most.

Mr. Athkinson pulled Lilian who was crying that time. He comforted her and promised that he will take care of the matter as soon as Sunny will go outside her room.

Lilian and Mr. Athkinson explained that they suppose to plan for the arranged marriage. It was at that period when families preferred their children to be in that way for them to get out of poverty. However, Sunny could never allow it to happen to her.

Sunny understood everything. She understood their explanation but then she has something in her mind now. She couldn't help but think about what Tyler said to her days ago.

Never rely on someone, especially if they are doing everything for you. As for Tyler, he believes that everything comes with a price. She decided to try being a scholar despite her classmates being hard on her most of the time.

One weekend, while they were sitting next to each other again on the hilltop, Tyler couldn't help but look at Sunny for a long time. He smiled when she caught him gazing at her again.

"Please stop that," She said as she covers her face. Tyler removed it and she noticed Sunny blushing because of what she's doing.

"Why? You're beautiful,I could gaze at you the whole day." He said as he smiled. Sunny bit her lip and poked his arm.

"Ow, that hurts!"

"I don't want you to do it, okay?"

"Why? I am not joking, alright? If that's what you think of, then sorry. But I mean it."

"Mean what?"

"You're beautiful, it's true."

"I don't want you to be straightforward. I am not used to it." She said as she frowned. She even folded her arms as she turned her back at him.

Tyler tickled her and she laughed out loud. She poked his arm instead but as she attempted to stand up, she slipped. Tyler was able to catch her quickly before she knew it. He wrapped his arms around her waist as he pulled her closer to him.

Their face is just an inch away and Sunny could smell his breath as he narrowed his gaze on his lips. Sunny slowly closed her eyes as her heart started to race.
