Chapter 36: HER SUNNY SMILE
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny's POV
Tyler stopped his bike right next to the public library. I smiled as I waved goodbye. When I saw the 1957 Corvette that our family driver drove for us, I noticed Tyler started pedaling his bike as he drove the opposite direction.
Again, this gesture makes me happy. Ever since Mr. John followed me, he always made sure I would arrive home safely. Even if I am already living in our new house. He never stopped giving me this gesture every time we would meet. It always melts my heart so much.
From this simple way of showing his good side, I can attest that he's a gentleman. From the year 2020, I have never seen a great man that I could compare him with. He's smart yet the most humble person I have ever known. Most guys in the future that I have known of, were really selfish. They only think of themselves most of the time. They get girlfriends only to show off to their friends. They only treat them as trophies more than their supposed partner and love of their life. That's why I never had a boyfriend in the future.
I am actually capable to have one but I prefer not to.
As soon as I got in the car, I turned my back to see if I could still find Tyler riding his bike away. However, he's too fast to ride his bike, that's why I couldn't see him anymore. I turned in front of me and I could see our driver smiled at me.
"Miss Sunny, is everything good?"
"Yes, Mr. Henry. All good." I nodded and he gave me a thumbs up sign.
"Very well, Miss. Let's get you home."
"Thank you, Mr. Henry."
I can't help but smile for the things that happened today. I looked around when I realized that this is a 1957 Corvette. The one I am riding with our family driver! However, this is not the exact car I drove when I went here from the year 2020, but the exact model!
"Gosh, how could this be possible?" I couldn't help but mutter aloud that Mr. Henry looked at the rear mirror to check on me.
"Miss, is everything alright?" I could see that he was also surprised at my weird reaction all of a sudden.
"Huh? Oh, yes, Mr. Henry. I'm sorry about that,"
"I thought you wanted something. We're almost there, Miss." He answered as he turned the steering wheel. I nodded and smiled at our driver.
As soon as we reached home, I expected that we would be having a family dinner and it never failed me. When I glanced at my watch, I could see that I was just in time. My mom and I dined with Mr. Athkinson and as usual, he prepared something appetizing and delicious for all of us.
We talked about a lot of random things. I could see that Mr. Athkinson was amused and happy with the way the mother recalled a lot of funny things, mostly silly ones that usually included me. Those topics and most especially the things I did when I was little.
"Wow! I never thought that Sunny is a great daughter."
"Of course. I am always proud of her, dear. She's silly but I love her so much."
I can't help but blush because I heard mom's exact words as if complimenting me so much face to face. Honestly, I am not getting used to it, that's why. That lasted for more than an hour. After that, we decided to say goodnight to one another as I went inside my room. I finished doing my night routine as I sat on my bed.
I was thinking about all of these. Almost five decades after all of these things happened in my life. However, I wonder why I never even remembered all of these from the future. I can't even remember Tyler as my childhood friend. Everything of this was erased in the year 2020.
I wonder what happened in my mid-20s or even 30s that I couldn't even remember a thing about this year. Isn't it supposed to be remarkable when a great thing happens in your life? Why is it that I am more than brainwashed from the year I came from?
I started to relax my body as I stretched my limbs and lay down flat on my back, feeling the softest mattress I have ever experienced from this time.
Wow, is Mr. Athkinson the key to my success? I can't remember him too and I am starting to wonder why.
The next morning, mom woke me up by shaking my body. I thought I was still dreaming.
"Mom...you're so annoying," I said as I rubbed my eyes. She grinned and touched both of my cheeks.
"I have a surprise for you,"
"Yeah, it is your hobby from the time we moved in this house," I replied in a tired tone, still rubbing my eyes. Her excitement was high, I sometimes doubt if she's my mom.
"Well, this surprise will make you happy." She exclaimed as if she's very sure of it. She even giggled with glee. I want to do a facepalm yet I always think she's my mother and she is older than me, well, this time.
"You look silly and ugly. Now, I want you to take a bath and brush your teeth. You'll be meeting someone for breakfast."
"What? Mom, is this a kind of joke or something?"
"Nope. I am not joking. You better do all the things I am telling you. I will get back to you after ten minutes because I am helping the maids bake in the kitchen."
"Alright," I answered, scratching my head as I frowned. My mom is giggling with glee, she even hummed as she went outside of my room. The kind of happiness she's showing is all new to me, I wonder what she's up to this time.
I took a quick bath and brushed my teeth. I also wore a floral vintage dress with a cute collar. As I brushed my wavy hair, I couldn't help but stare at my reflection. I smiled because of what I am seeing. I naturally looked beautiful. I admire my skin because of the creams and soaps ideally made for sensitive skin like me. I am happy that my mom selected those for me to use.
I felt like I am better compared to before. Now, I have a lot of dresses to wear, compared to the previous days. I finished the remaining things I needed to do before I went outside of my room. I am happy that mom helped in the kitchen. The smell of baked bread is diffusing everywhere, making my stomach rumble. The smell alone could make me hungry.
I sat on the dining table with mom on my left and Mr. Athkinson sat on the left.
"Mom, I thought I'll be meeting someone?"
"Yes, she will be here any minute by now," Mom answered as she glanced on her wristwatch.
I nodded and I started eating the soup as I looked at it closely.
"Oh, here she is." I could hear my mom's excitement. As I looked up, I felt like I want to scream anytime because of that familiar smile again."
"Hello, Sunny."
"Miss Marlyn!"
