Chapter 31: NEW WIFE, NEW LIFE
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny's POV
I slowly hovered my gaze around the house. I admit the mansion is a bit bigger for this year. I can say that Mr. Athkinson is a wealthy man. The features of the house itself is so great, you could easily tell that the one living here is very particular when it comes to furniture and appliances. From its wide array of stylish, marble-designed statues of goddesses and greek gods beside the entrance door, you can also see many indoor plants scattered within the area. Since the mansion is mostly white in color, the plants complimented to its lively and relaxing look at the same time.
"You know what, my dear? Mr. Athkinson would love to meet you at last." I was able to shift my attention to mom after hearing her voice. I smiled as I went closer to her as we roamed around the house.
"I also want to meet him too, mom. I want to know why you fell in love with him."
"He's very kind. If you meet him, I am sure you will like him too." Seeing my mom's sweetest smile is an encouragement for me. I love how she was able to find her happiness after what happened to dad.
I nodded and returned my mom's happiness. After all, she deserves it well. Mom stayed inside Mr. Athkinson's room, while a maid accompanied me to the room next to them. It looked like a big guest room. I could see that it could accommodate at least four people when we're inside that room with one of my mom's colleagues.
"Ma'am, this is your room starting now."
"Wow! You can't be serious! I gasped with awe as I opened the door. The color pink accentuated the whole room. The design was just right for me.
"Yes, ma'am. Mr. Athkinson wants only the best for Ms. Grainger's daughter."
"Thank you so much, ma'am. I am happy that you all set this up for me."
"It's our pleasure, ma'am. Please call us if there's anything else that you will need in this room."
I nodded and smiled. The maid bowed down and left as she slowly closed the door.
Now, everything is becoming clear to me. I thought my dad only left my mom with another woman. I never expected that he was dead.
I never knew all of it. If not because of me going back to this year, I had no idea of the real thing that's happening about my parents. It's very sad. I never even had a chance to mourn for him because of the wrong information.
I slowly roamed around the place to check the things that they've placed. I noticed that there was some girly stuff being bought in advance. I also went to my bed and sat on it. The comfort gave so much relaxation to my body so much that it almost lulled me to sleep.
I slowly laid on my back and breath, enjoying the exclusivity of my room. Compared to my room from our old house, this one is better and cozy. The room has a lot of shelves that suited its real purpose. I can almost see that the space is too much for my things to contain. I guess mom is right. We need to buy new things and even additional ones for the space to be maxed out.
I opened my drawers and cabinets but they were all empty. I heard a knock on the door.
"Please come in! That's open!" I raised my voice a bit without minding the one who was knocking my room. I am too busy to be amazed that I never noticed it was mom. She also sounded very enthusiastic more than I do.
"Don't worry, my dear! We'll be filling those out tomorrow!" It was my mom, touching both of my shoulders from behind me. She sounded very excited with anticipation for tomorrow's shopping.
I rolled my eyes. I'm sure she never saw that one. I admit, before I came here, I was too fond of shopping. I feel like retiring from the year 2020 where I came from. Who would've thought I'll be doing it again?
"Yey…" I tried sounding excited as well, mixed with sarcasm. I noticed that my mom never minded all of it. She was too busy seeking her happiness and new life that negativity was not in her vocabulary right now.
"Mr. Athkinson wanted us to get up early. We'll be having breakfast and after that, we'll go on a shopping spree as he requested."
"C'mon, mom. It's you who wanted shopping the most."
"Uhm, well, not really. I am just excited to go shopping because I want to buy you something as well."
I can see her cheeks reddened as she looked at me. She tried avoiding her gaze, looking cute. I can't help but smile. Sometimes I can't believe this is my mother.
"Thank you, dear. I am happy."
"Mom, you don't have to tell me about it. It's too obvious." I said between chuckles. She hugged me tight from behind me. I held her hands that's warm and accepting.
"It's final, alright? Please wake up early. We'll surely have fun tomorrow."
"Of course, mom." We had some small talks and after half an hour, she bid goodbye to do many things. I guess she's too overwhelmed with the idea of managing a 'new home'.
I am also glad that Mr. Athkinson is giving all of the privileges to her as his new girlfriend. Wow, I couldn't help but admire mom's charm. Who would've thought she would love again after many decades?
I badly wanted to meet Mr. Athkinson in person. I want to know how my mom fell in love with him, how his personality would look like, and many others. I am curious about what my mom saw in him that stood among others.
I guess she deserves to be happy after all. She's been working long hours from the past years. I am not even sure if she's happy or not, but I have proven it myself now.
Agreeing with her new-found love is the thing that I guess she's grateful the most. I think that's the only thing that I could do for her as her daughter. For me, she deserves all of these things that are happening to her right now.
The next morning, I woke up early because of my mother's request. I stretched my arms and legs as soon as I opened my eyes. After a few minutes, I stood up and walked towards my window. I opened the sliding window from my room. The breeze of the morning air greeted me. I love the sight of the sun that is yet to rise from the horizon.
"Good morning, 1957! Gosh, a real throwback from the past. Who would've thought I would be going back to the past? This is crazy!." I muttered as I put my hand on my left cheek, leaning on the bottom rails of my window as I sigh.
I heard a knock on the door of my room. I remembered the reminder my mom told me yesternight.
"Coming, mom!"
