Chapter 48: LOVE GOES
Read online · About 5 minutesSunny's POV
There were few street lights as I continued walking beside the pavement of the road. Good thing there weren't many people compared to the year 2020 as this moment. I am also thankful that I am not popular this year or else my fans will call me crazy.
Yeah, I looked crazy already because of how I looked. I didn't even remember to take a bath that day. I just left home without any direction and without thinking. Too bad and too late, I am already here in front of the hilltop.
I hugged both of my arms as I carried my heavy bag. This is too epic. I am fifteen. I am very young and yet I already think about it, this is a wrong move.
With great force, I was able to place my bag on one of the big roots of the tree. The shade of this giant tree somehow covered the light of the moon that's shining brightly under me. The shade of the tree makes the surrounding dark and I am starting to feel afraid. I looked around. The crickets and owls were only my companion for the night. I started to touch my bag and unzip it. I started feeling the contents with my hand. I am thankful that I brought my blanket with me. This soft, cottony blanket is my favorite ever since I went back from 2020. The material is very nice, it helps me to sleep right away. However, I don't think I can sleep in this kind of situation I am in.
I touched my pocket and I can feel the match that I got from our house. I couldn't see any lamp or light or whatever that made me see the things around me. I never thought I would experience being a nomad for once in my life. I started to feel the match. When I am already familiar from the matchbox as I touch it, I slowly push the tiny compartment of the box until I can feel the matchsticks lying on it.
Approximately, it contained fifty pieces of matchsticks for me to practice. I started grasping the match firmly at its midpoint. As far as I could remember, I started putting my pointer (index) finger and my thumb to hold the match about halfway down the wooden stick.
I honestly felt nervous all of a sudden because I never get to experience making a fire through a matchstick and a match. However, desperate need calls for desperate measures. I gently wrap my other finger around the base of the stick for support while I am closing my eyes.
I felt really embarrassed for the first time in my life. Good thing I am alone and nobody is seeing this epic thing I am doing right now.
I started to light a match as I tried the wooden "strike on box" while closing my eyes. However, my matchstick is hitting pointlessly on the matchbox. It turned out to be a failed strike because I couldn't even see anything. I tried again, this time, making sure that the friction will cause fire.
When my matchstick sparkled, I got surprised that I threw the stick on the ground. There, failed for the second time around.
I started to breathe as I inhaled deeply, getting my third matchstick. I even closed my eyes and uttered a quick prayer before I tried it again for the third time. At this point, I sat on my favorite root of this tall tree as I lit the third matchstick. I successfully lit the third matchstick without blinking. It made my heart race fast but then I am too quick to put the matchstick on the ground as I covered it with dried leaves. The fire started to spread easily and I could feel warmth right away.
I am too relieved I even wiped my sweating forehead with my arm. I covered myself with a blanket as I sat down on the root again. However, I have a big problem. My stomach started to rumble. I realized I haven't eaten my dinner and the night is getting deeper. The wind is blowing, kissing my skin that gave me a lot of goosebumps.
I started to overthink. What if there are wild animals surrounding the hilltop during nighttime? What if they will eat me alive? Do cannibals still exist at this period? What if I will be roasted over the fire that I personally made?
I suddenly froze when somebody covered my eyes with both of his hands. It was so cold I could die with shock and terror. I started shouting but then the person was too quick to put his hands on my mouth. I bit his hand that covered my mouth as deep as I could and it made him let go of me.
"Tyler!" I said, shocked as I put both of my hands on my mouth. My eyes widened with horror as I realized what I did to him just now. He sat down, closing both of his hands as he placed it on his stomach.
"Wow, that hurts for real." He said while writhing in pain.
"I am so sorry. I thought you're a cannibal trying to eat me alive."
"Wow, if I am a cannibal, I'd be the most handsome cannibal in the world."
"You wish…" I suddenly got annoyed because he's being nonsense all of a sudden. How can he joke around while in pain? Sometimes I don't get men, for real.
"I don't understand why you're here in the middle of the night."
"Because I missed you?" I said with sarcasm. I heard him bursting with laughter again.
"Don't say that, I might fall for your words."
"You're a copycat. I did say that sentence first." I said while frowning. We became silent for a minute. When he heard my stomach rumble, he held my hand and placed something on it.
"Oh, a chicken sandwich!" I exclaimed as I excitedly opened it.
"Eat first before you eat me alive. I am afraid you might eat my hands for real if you're not gonna eat something."
