Chapter 15: LONGING TO LOVE YOU
Read online · About 6 minutesSunny's POV
The day went on as usual. I learned that my mom leaves at the exact time of 10:00 A.M. and returns before 7:00 P.M. She's really busy with her work. Well, I am starting to get used to it, anyway.
That is also the time where I lock the doors of our house and head straight to the library. She's not even aware to all of these. I am afraid she might not allow me to go there once she would know what I am doing after she's gone to her work.
"You're always on time. I could see a bright learner in you in the future." She smiled as soon as she saw me walking inside the library and coming towards her. She pulled one of the chairs beside her and she let me sit on it.
"Indeed, Ms. Marlyn. Thank you for being patient to me as well."
"Why of course! You're easy to teach my dear. I could even leave you here while you are learning on your own. You're an independent learner and I admire you for it."
I smiled at her as she tapped my head. She's really kind and considerate to me. I always liked the extra attention she will give me more than my mom could ever do. She's more than my mother when it comes to giving a lot of effort for me to learn all of the things I needed to learn. I love it because she really helped me learn the basics from our lessons first. Sometimes, I wish she's my mom and not my present.
I can see that her eyes were like sparkling diamonds. Her teeth were as glittery as the precious pearls of the sea. Everything about her is really admirable, even the way she would chuckle or laugh. She looked like a living angel personally sent for me by God for a valuable lesson.
"I guess you got all of my instructions clearly," She cheerfully said looking through my eyes.
"Yes, Ms. Marlyn." I nodded and smiled. She pinched my cheek right away because of my reaction first.
"That's a really good girl! I will return here after an hour. Please give your best to remember the three-letter words I gave you. You'll have to recite them all to me afterwards."
"Got it crystal clear." She smiled once again as she turned her back to me. I looked at all the worksheets and basic-learning books she has given me. When I turned the pages, I couldn't help but to pity myself. So this was me from a long time ago.
However, why is it that I couldn't remember everything that is happening now? How did I ever live my life before 2020? It's like every single bit of information from my teenage years was robbed to me. Everything, every single moment that is happening now seemed to be absent from the present times. I don't even know where it came from.
I couldn't even remember having a picture of my mom or an encounter with her. I am more accustomed to the information about my father, how loving he was and how patient he is to me. As I went back from this period, I didn't even know where he was, or where he lives. He's not even living with us at this moment.
I scratched my head with a pen as I bit my lower lip. I got bored reading the words with my eyes that I selected the writing practice materials instead. I started to trace the letters A-Z when I felt someone standing in front of me. When I lifted my head, my heart fluttered all of a sudden. It's him!
To my surprise, I was able to scamper, grabbing the worksheets that I was working on that others flew in the air. My other papers were creased, some fell on the floor. I could hear him chuckle as he helped me pick the papers up. This was pure embarrassment on my end.
I had a sudden surge of emotions that I made it too obvious for him that I am not at ease. I want to disappear right away. I hate it!
"I'm so sorry," He said as he carefully placed all of the papers he picked on the floor.
"Ah, i-it's o-okay...I am so sorry, too." I scratched my head again as I awkwardly smiled at him when all of the papers were placed on the table.
"I was just about to ask if it is okay for me to sit beside you? The place is too crowded already and this is the only table that could accommodate another person." I couldn't help but to look around and he was right.
I have never seen such numbers of people going in the library compared to yesterday.
"Please have a seat. I don't mind at all. Thank you for helping me, too." He followed what I said right away. He placed his backpack on the floor next to the chair. There's a table between us where he sat, facing me. I was able to insert my basic writing worksheets under my ABC book while looking at him with an awkward smile. I want to cry because this whole thing is really embarrassing.
Who would have thought the great Sunny Grainger of the year 2020, a famous novelist, writer, car racer and an influencer will struggle like this? This is too much to handle! I want to break down with tears. I looked down and slowly closed my fist. I bit my lips when I felt my tears rolling on my cheeks again.
"Are you alright?" When I met his gaze, I could see his worried look. He shifted his gaze to his pocket and to my face. "Here," He added, offering me his handkerchief.
"T-Thank you," I accepted his handkerchief and wiped my tears away.
"If there's anything that troubles you, please don't hesitate to tell me. I am willing to listen." He said, sounding really kind.
As I glanced at him, I realized that our age difference is not that far. I could say he's only between sixteen to eighteen years old. Looking at the features of his face this near made my knees tremble all of a sudden.
He's not handsome, you know, the striking ones I have seen from my previous life. He has a tanned skin and broad shoulders that's making him attractive to my sight. He has those powerful pairs of eyes that could immediately melt you in one gaze. He has a perfect pointed nose that added to his physical charm. His mouth is also a turn-on, and his smile would literally kill someone. I guess that's one of the things he got for himself that he's proud of.
"If I am making you uncomfortable, please tell me." He smiled again and I couldn't help but to avoid my gaze at him. I just looked down and started scanning the pages. Gosh, I have never been distracted all my life, not until today when he sat in front of me.
"As I said, I don't mind at all. It's not my personal table so we could definitely share." I answered him and he nodded with a smile as well.
