Small Town Girl — Chapter 35

The next day, I wake up earlier than my normal wake up time, I take shower for Max and feed him, then he sleeps again. I wake Mia up and get her ready for school, I am thinking to tell Nick that she is not going to school but he may be asking me so many questions, that is why I prepare her for school.

After eating breakfast, I get Mia's lunch bag and her school bag then kiss her on her cheek but to my surprise, Nick also kisses me on my cheeks and says goodbye. I don't understand him at all, he did not even behave as if he talks to his parents that they are planning on filing for custody of my son but he is trying to do anything that makes us happy. I don't know what to believe.

After Nick and Mia left, I went back to my room and gathered all our things together and put them in the living room, I have already booked an online flight ticket to Florida for me and my kids with the money I asked Annie to borrow me. I don't know anybody there or where to go in Florida but I just want to leave here.

I went back inside the room to pick my son and call a cab, as am about to go out Mrs. Davis opens the front door and asks me where I am going and I explain everything to her but she said I should not go because she can see that Nick loves me and he is happy seeing the kids around. I told her it is not possible, if he is happy with us, he will not tell his parents that he is just helping me because I have financial problems and he also agrees with his parents to file for custody of my son.

She told me that I should call him and talk to him about it, I told her that she should let me go but she begs me not to go that I should settle everything with Nick and if he agrees that it is true that he wants only his son then she will help me to run away but I said not that it is too late.

After a lot of begging, she let me go and I went to pick Mia up from school. I lie to her Aunty that there is some important thing that came up that is why I came to pick her myself. I changed her clothes and head straight to the airport.

After we get settled down inside the plane, I take out my phone and send the messages I typed earlier to Annie and Natalie, then I switched it off. I don't have anywhere to go but when we land I know that God will direct me to follow a good path

NICK P.O.V

Today is the best day of my life, this is the first time Bella is playing with me and Mia. Today really surprised me a lot because she made my favorite breakfast and also baked a lot of snacks, I am really happy today. I also tell her that we should travel on vacation and she agrees.

The next day, she wakes up and prepares Mia for school but I can see in her that something is bothering her, maybe she is stressed because of Max, he normally wakes up at midnight to play and sleep in the afternoon.

After finishing our breakfast, she helps Mia with her school bag and gives her a kiss on her cheek, I also move closer to her and kiss her on her cheek, but she looked surprised and she did not say anything but before she smiles back to me I think there is something bothering her when I come back from work I will ask her.

As soon as I get to work, my assistant told me that I have a meeting to attend within 5 minutes and people are waiting for me and after that, we will meet one of our investors outside the company and tell me all other schedules that are important for me to attend to.

After that meeting, I did not enter my office at all, I and my assistant headed out straight because our investor was already waiting for us, he came earlier than the scheduled time.

He said he is sorry that some important issue came up for him and he wants to make sure we finalize this deal before he goes back.

After 6 hours of going from one meeting to another, I am now back in my office and I check my phone and I found a lot of missed calls from Natalie, Nate, and Mrs. Davis. The mistake I made is that I put my phone on silent mode and I forgot to remove it. I hope there is no problem, I first dial Mrs. Davis's number because she never called so many times like this, and Bella and my son are at home.

"Hello, how are you Mrs. Davis, I saw your  missed calls on my phone, I am in a meeting at the moment you called me, hope there is no problem how are Bella and my son," I said

"I am sorry, it is too late, she has already left" I don't understand what she is saying

"What did you mean she left, who left?" I asked

"Bella," She said weakly and hangs up

She said Bella has already left, I don't understand her. I decided to call Bella's phone number but it is saying switched off. I packed all my things to go home and see what happened. All of a sudden my office door burst open and it was Nate.

"What did you do to Bella that made her leave?" He asked fuming with anger

"Nothing, I did not do anything to her, I left her home this morning before coming to work and I am the one that drops Mia to school" He shows me the text message on his phone and I read it

"I don't understand this, where did you get this message from? I asked

"Bella send messages to Natalie and that message in your hand is also the one that she sends to her friend Annie," He said

"But there is no fight between us and I drop Mia at school this morning" As I am talking, I can't explain how I am feeling.

"As we are talking now, Bella is already on the plane by now and I am very sure she will not leave her kids behind," He said

"To where?"

"I don't know" He replied to me and I fall on the sofa in my office helplessly

Nothing happens between us, why will she leave.  I observed her this morning that something is bothering her and yesterday she also acts differently and I am so happy that she is opening up to me, while I don't know that she is saying goodbye to me.

I stood up and picked up my keys and phone, Nick asked me where am I going then I told him that I want to go and find Bella and my kids.

"Nate, they are my happiness I can't just let them go like that," I said

"Where are you going now? He asked me following me.

"First I am going to the airport to confirmed where she is going, then I will go there and look for them, I don't mind searching from one house to the other, all I want is my wife and my kids" I did not realize what I said until Nate asked me to repeat again

"What did you just say now, Nick?" He asked

"I said I am going to look for my wife and my k…….., sorry I don't know what I am saying I mean Bella and the kids" it feels awkward and I rub my hand at the back of my head

"Nick, I know you love Bella, but put your ego aside and think about your happiness. Do the right thing at the right time" His phone rings and he answers it.

From what I am hearing from him because he is beside me inside the car we heading to the airport, it is Annie Bella's friend that he is talking to.

"Nick, did you really want to take your son from Bella?" Nate asked me

"No, why will I do that? I am trying to ask for her forgiveness for what I have done to her and to make her mine. So how will I do that?" I said

"Annie is telling me now that you are telling your parents that you will try to file for your son's custody and you also said that she did not have any relationship with you" I don't know that she heard what I am saying to my parents.

"Shit, I am trying to confuse my mom so that she will not do anything stupid, you know my mom she can do and undo. I don't want her to hurt Bella that is why I said that" I said parking at the airport.

"If you can't protect what you love from being hurt then you are a coward, Nick. Why can't you tell your parents that you love her and want to be with her? He said and he gets out of the car

Am I a coward?
