Small Town Girl — Chapter 34

After I put Mia to bed, I changed her clothes and walked out of Mia's room. As I am coming out of Mia's bedroom I am hearing Nick is talking to the people, after hearing what they are saying there I know that they are Nick's parent.

"Nick I think I raised you better than this, why are you such a disgrace to us?" Nick's dad said

"How could you be so stupid to have sex with this kind of poor and dirty girl and to make the matter worst she is a single mother" Nick's mom said

"Mom please she is the mother of my son," He said playing with Max

"When you have a lot of beautiful girls that are from a good home, why can't you choose one of them to settle down with, not this dirty girl," His mom said while I was standing hearing everything.

"Mom, it is not her fault I'm drunk and I raped her later she comes back to me and said she is pregnant," He said

"When I told you to give us grandchild not from a poor girl without no family background" She said

I am thinking of going there and tell them that I am just here for some time and I will leave their son very soon but what Nick said next makes me stand still and feel weak.

"Mom, I just let her move in here for the main time to give birth, after that I will send her back and I help her because she has a financial problem and I can't let my baby suffer with her, it is not that I am having any relationship with her," Nick said and I can feel tears coming out of my tears

"Then file for custody of your child and I am sure you will win it because she did not have any money to take of the baby. After the court hears about her financial problem and she also has one child before. The court will be in your favor after that send her away" her mom said

"Ok, mom I will see what I will do to that," He said

After hearing what they were saying I entered my room and closed the door slowly for them not to hear, I went inside the bathroom and cry my eyes out.

I thank God that I hear this, so this is Nick's plan all along. When I am about to see light at the end of my tunnel darkness takes over it again, I sit on the floor in the bathroom and start crying. I think I need to act fast because if they file for my baby custody, I know I can't win it. There are a lot of reasons why I say I can't win it because they have money and power in this country, I am a foreigner here and I  am a single mother they may say that I can't take care of the one in my hand, how will I be able to take care of two of them? His mother is right.

When I hear a knock on the bathroom door, I stand up from the floor and wash my face but my face is red when I look at the mirror, I don't want him to know that I am crying and think that I heard what they are talking about, I put face wash on my face and open the door for him to see me and I told him that I am coming he should give me some few minutes.

When I came out of the bathroom, he asked me what happened to my eyes and I told him that the face wash I put on my face entered my eyes. He told me that his parents are down and he wants me to come and greet them. I said ok.

"Mom and Dad meet Bella, Bella meet my parent" It feels awkward, I don't know what to say or how to greet them

"Hello I am Bella," I said but they did not even answer me or look at my side, they are playing with Max

"Mom, dad Bella is greeting you at least answer her," Nick said

"Hi" His mother said

I walked back to Mia's room and sent a message to Annie. I told her to borrow me some money and she said yes. She said she will transfer it to my account and I told her what I heard from Nick and his parents but I did not tell her my plan. I just told her that I want to get another apartment that Nick will not know about. I think it is better to get out of here before it is too late.

I move closer to my daughter and talk to her silently not to disturb her "I’m so sorry my baby, I know you are already attached to Nick but I don't have any other option than to take you and your brother far away from here" I kiss her on her forehead, I take her bag and pack all the necessary things that she will need and go back to my room. I decided not to cry again and be strong for my kids.

Later Nick brings Max to me and says he is hungry, I take shower for him and change his clothes. After that, I feed him and put him to bed. I don't know if Nick's parents are still there or they left, I lock my door from inside and pack all the necessary things that I and Max will need for the main time. I pick my phone and type a message to Natalie telling her that she should give back my apartment to the agent that I rent the apartment from and all my things that are there either they sell them and or give them out, I also said thanks to her and her husband for the help and support all this while but I did not send it yet.

I want to go away from here without not telling anybody where I and my kids are going, Annie, Nate, and Natalie have really tried enough for me, I think it is time for me to fight for myself and my kids, I want to do it all alone without anybody's pity or being a burden on anybody. I type a message to Annie that "My dear best friend, despite that we are not from the same family background you stand by me right from our college days till now, thanks for all your support and help you have done for me and my kids, I really appreciate them. You will always be my best friend forever, no other person can replace you in my heart. I think it is time to struggle for my kids and make a better future for them at least if I can give them the best I will try my possible best to give them a good future. I promise you that if anything is not possible for me I will come and meet you in Texas and take any offer to give me but at least let me try something for my kids on my own. Mia and Max are sending kisses to you and they will miss you. I am sorry if my message makes you angry, please forgive me" at the end of the message I put kiss and love emojis at the end of the message.

The next morning it is Sunday, Nick said we should go out again but I said that I am tired from yesterday's outing and I told him that we can have fun at home, he said ok. I handed over Max to him and went to the kitchen to cook and bake. I am sorry Nick but this will be our last time being together and I promise to make the best out of it. I prepare all his favorite breakfast, after eating I told him that we should go out to the garden, we play with the kids and I also chat with him and play with him, running around the garden, doing hide and seek with Mia, he swims inside the pool with Mia while I hold Max sitting at the edge of the pool while my leg is inside the pool. I can see that Max has slept on my leg as I want to stand up to put him in his pram, he told me to stay, he comes out of the pool and puts him inside. Suddenly I fall into the water and I see that it is Nick that pushes me inside, both Nick and Mia are laughing and I join them, then the three of us are playing inside the pool.

"Bella, thanks for today for being yourself today I promise you that I will never hurt you again," He said

"No problem Nick," I said

"I am thinking maybe we should travel for vacation?" He said

"What about Mia's school?" I asked him

"The school will be on holiday from next week so that is why I said we should travel," He said

"Ok, no problem" I am sorry Nick, this will be our last time together.

If God wishes we will meet again but I can't let you take my baby away from me.
