Small Town Girl — Chapter 22

After running the test, she called me again and I sit in front of her, I saw her holding some papers in her hand and she said that I should leave the pregnancy because I have a lot of complications in my first pregnancy and my anemia is not yet cured, she said if I abort the pregnancy I may lose my life or have damaged womb. She said I should not try to go anywhere else because they may not do any tests for me and just proceed with the abortion which is risky.

After what she said it is like my life turn upside down, how am I going to cope with this? As if being a single mother is not enough for my suffering, now this one again.

Why me? People normally say that there is light at the end of every tunnel, why can't I see light at the end of my tunnel? Why is it that it is only darkness that I always see?

After dinner I put Mia to bed and try to sleep, tomorrow is another day, I will think of what to do next but every time I close my eyes that night flash in front of my eyes, I can't sleep, how am I going to survive this wicked world? The salary I get I use for Mia school fees, house rent, foodstuff, and other things, I hardly buy things for myself not to talk of saving money, so how am I going to cope with pregnancy and work? I always feel weak and tired during pregnancy which is why Doctor Emily my doctor that takes care of me during Mia's pregnancy said whenever I get pregnant I should not work at all or do any stressful things. What am I going to do?

The next day which is Saturday, I prepared breakfast for Mia, clean the house, do the laundry, I just want to keep myself busy not to think of anything. When it is lunchtime there is nothing to do again, I sit down with Mia in the living room while she is watching cartoons.

My phone ringing brought me out of my thought I check the caller and it is Annie because I already call her before but she did not answer my call.

"Hey babe, how are you and my Princess?" She asked

"Your princess is fine but I am finished," I said crying

"Bella, please stop crying and tell me what happening," She said worriedly

"I am pregnant and I went for abortion, the doctor said it is too complicated and I can't go through an abortion if I don't want to lose my life or have womb damaged," I told her

"Please Bella don't do anything stupid, I am sure we will find a solution to all this," She said

She told me a lot of things and advice me even she said if I can't cope I should come down to Texas that she will take of me and Mia because she knows that when I am pregnant I can't work. But she said no matter what I should let Nick know about the baby, either he wants the baby or not, I should make sure to let him know.

I call Natalie to ask for Nick's number or his office address.

"Hello Bella, how are you?" She said

"I am fine and how is Jason?" I said

"He is fine, Bella what happened to you, your voice sounds bad, hope there is no problem" How will I explain to her?

"I am fine, please can I have Nick's number or his office address?" I don't want to go to his penthouse

"Yeah sure but hope there is no problem," I think I have to tell her

"Please what I want to tell you now please don't tell my boss, until I hear his reply," I said to her

"I promise you I won't tell him"

"I am four weeks pregnant"

"Oh my God Bella, I………. I…….. I don't know what to say" Tears coming out of my eyes, I am trying to wipe them away so that Mia will not see me because I am sitting with her in the living room "Please stop crying Bella, everything will be fine"

"I hope so, I try to abort it but the doctor said it is too complicated to go through abortion because I have some health issues and I have some complications during Mia's pregnancy" As I am talking to her more tears coming from my eyes

"I am really sorry about that, everything will be alright," She said

"I want him to know about it that it is why I want to call him or meet him at his office," I said

We talk a lot more and she said if I need anything, her door is always open for me, I told her not to tell her husband yet until I talk to Nick. After we hang-up, she sends both Nick's number and his office address to me.

I am debating maybe to call him or I should just go and meet him at his office, but I think I should meet him at his office will be good because since the time of that incident we have not met since then so if I call him now it will be awkward for me but I don't know about him.

I am at work now and I want to go and meet my boss, I want to ask for permission to leave work at 2 pm before the closing hour. I am in front of his office door to knock.

"Come in," he said from inside "Hi Bella, how are you? please have your seat" He said

"I am good, please I want to ask for permission to leave before the normal closing hour may be at 2 pm," I said

"No problem, you can go but hope there is no problem?" What am I going to say?

"There is no any problem, I need to attend Mia school because her teacher called me to come" I lied because I don't know what to tell him

"Ok, no problem you can go and you can go home from there don't bother to come to the office again," He said

"Thank you, sir," I said and he nods his head and smile

I go back to my desk and when Anna comes I told her that I want to and I explain some work that I have done and maybe Mr. Nate will need them.

I am in Nick's company now, I talk to the receptionist I met downstairs and she told me if I have an appointment with him but I lie to her that it is his friend Mr. Nate that send me to him, I just try my luck I don't maybe he know his friend that I am talking about but fortunately, she knows him and she told me to go to floor 25 that it is his office, I will meet his assistant there, I said thanks to her and I head to the elevator to go to floor 25.

I am on floor 25 but I did not see any assistant there and nobody around to ask, I walk straight maybe I will see anybody to talk to, after walking around the floor I saw one guy and I told him I am looking for Mr. Nick but I don't know his office and I did not meet his assistant on the desk, he asks me if I have an appointment I said no that it is Mr. Nate his friend that send me to him, I told the guy that he can call Nick and tell him that Bella Mr. Nate secretary is here. He looks at me for some seconds and later he leads me to Nick's office. He told me to knock and enter then he left. I did not think twice I knock on the door and I heard some voice but I think he told me to enter then I open the door but what I saw is not good to write home about. I said sorry that I will come back. I quickly close the door and walk away.
