Chapter 7

Read online · About 6 minutes

I drove her back to the house and opened the car door for her. I expected her to run off without saying anything since she is finally escaping this date. Instead, she waited for me to say goodbye.

"Thank you for taking me to the fair. I had a good time," she said with that melodic voice of hers.

Well...I didn't expect to hear that!

"Um...you are welcome?" I said, still couldn't believe she was thanking me.

"I still don't like you though," she let me know. She had a serious look on her face, but her eyes were twinkling and her lips curled into a small smile.

"And you are still stuck with me for a month, princess," I smirked.

The next day, it was time to go to school and for the first time in my life, I was looking forward to it. I went to the kitchen to grab something to eat but was greeted by an empty fridge.

"What a surprise," I mumbled under my breath.

"Don't bother looking in there, mom didn't have enough money to buy groceries since dad blew it all on beer." a voice behind me said, it was my older sister, Molly.

Figures, I thought.

Molly was 5 years older with the same color of hair and eyes as me. She even sported the same dimples as me when she smiled. People always told us we looked just like each other. We weren't particularly close but she tried her hardest to be a good big sister to me and I acknowledged that.

"JACOB! Get your ass up here!" I hear my father yelling from the living room.

What the fuck does he want now?

I went to the living room to see what he wanted. As soon as I entered I was greeted by a hard slap on my face.

"What the fuck dad?" I asked as I rubbed my throbbing cheek.

"Watch your tone with me, boy. You gonna tell me why you got detention again?"

"What do you care?" I barked.

"Answer the fucking question before I beat your fucking skull in." he snarled at me.

"I....well... I was just trying to teach this wimp a little lesson and the administrator stepped in, that's all."

"I see," he looked at me intently. "All I am sayin' is that ass-wipe principal of yours interrupted my nap for your sorry ass, don't let that happen again."

"Yes sir," I said quietly. I knew better not to argue with him this early in the morning.

I just ignored the stinging pain on my cheek and went to school. At least I'd get to see Lily. Seeing her face in my mind made me smile. I missed the way her body felt when I held her close at the Ferris wheel. There's no way she'd let me hold her like that again.

I looked around for her once I got to school but didn't see her anywhere. I spotted Ryan at his locker where I saw him the first time.

I itched to go to him and grab him by that scrawny little neck but resisted the urge since I made a deal with Lily.

It was almost lunchtime so I needed to find another victim so I can get some money or food from him. I hadn't eaten since last night so I was starving. I spotted a dork walking to the cafeteria so I caught up to him and grabbed him by his shoulder.

"Jesus dude! What do you want?" the kid cried out.

"You know what you little shit, you gotta pay me toll before you can get inside the cafeteria," I sneered and lifted him by his collar.

"Shit, Jacob? look, man, I don't have any money on me today. I'll get you some tomorrow though I swear!" he said and squirmed to get out of my grasp.

"Fuck tomorrow...I need something now. Hmm...let's see, what did little Pete bring me for lunch today?" I smirked and snatched his bag from him.

"Do you ever stop being a jerk?" I got goosebumps hearing her voice behind me. I turned around and looked into Lily's ocean blue eyes.

"Oh look! It's the princess to the rescue again." I glared at her, but she just ignored me and looked at Pete. She took the bag off of my hand and gave it back to Pete. The audacity! Pete saw I was distracted so he took that as his opportunity to make his great escape, and I was once again left with no food.

"You just cost me free food and I am getting hangry," I said crossing my arms to my chest and stared hard into her eyes.

"You shouldn't take things that don't belong to you. It's called stealing." Lily said and stared back at me.

"What are you? My mom? Look, the deal was that, I will leave your whiny brother alone, but that doesn't mean you get to interfere with what I do with anyone else. You aren't a savior of the geek clan. Now if you will excuse me, I need to find another victim before the lunch is over because I am starving." With that, I tried to leave but Lily grabbed my hand.

"I brought a sandwich and some chips, we could share," she said quietly, her eyes gentle.

I thought about it for a moment. I didn't want to give her the impression that she can convince me to stop bullying kids, but at the same time, I was fucking starving and a sandwich sounded good.

"Fine, just this once. Only because I am hungry and its too late to raid someone else's bag," I scowled.

Her eyes lit up. We went inside the cafeteria and sat on an empty table. Kids around us looked at us like we were some type of circus freaks and I knew why. I've always eaten my lunch alone. Besides, Lily wasn't the kind of girl that hung out with someone like me.

She took out a foot-long sub sandwich, two bags of chips, and a couple of oranges out of her bag.

"Jesus Christ! That's a lot of food you got there lady, you are the fattest skinny person I've ever met." I exclaimed.

She giggled which was like music to my ears. "Noooo, they aren't all for me silly!"

"Then who is it for?" I asked.

"You," she replied shyly.

"Huh? I don't get it. Did you somehow know I was gonna bully a kid and steal his lunch? What kind of witchcraft is this?" I was confused.

She giggled again then her expression turned serious.

"Well, after you said you wanted me to be with you for a month, I knew you weren't gonna leave me alone at lunch. So I packed lunch for two. Plus, I've seen you steal people's lunches before so I knew you never brought your lunch." She said and looked away.

I tried to keep my face neutral so she couldn't see how happy she made me. This chick was something else.
