Lily Hates Me: A Love Story · Angela Lynn Carver
Chapter 5
Read online · About 4 minutesI stood in front of the mirror and stared at myself for at least 10 minutes, trying to decide if I liked the way I looked for our date.
Okay, I was well aware of the fact that she would hate me no matter what but that doesn't mean I couldn't put in some effort anyway. I settled on a white fitted t-shirt that showed off my biceps and paired it with some dark grey jeans. I brushed my messy hair back with my fingers and decided that I looked pretty good.
I hopped in my beat-up mustang and went to pick up Lily. I rang the doorbell and mentally prepared myself for some kickback from her. I was pretty sure I'd have to force her out of the house.
An elderly woman opened the door and stared at me for a minute, then her face contorted into a scowl.
"Yes? Can I help you?" she asked.
I cleared my throat. "I'm here to pick up Lily, is she your daughter?"
"Might as well be." She simply stated and looked me up and down like I was some type of a freak. "Wait here," she said and shut the door on my face.
Fucking rich people.
I waited for about 5 minutes, which felt like an eternity. I was starting to think Lily had told her I came to assault her so she was probably calling the cops right now. Maybe I should just forget the whole thing and leave. My thoughts were interrupted when the door swung open again and Lily stepped out.
She was wearing a pair of stonewashed jeans and an off the shoulder top with little flowers. Her hair was made up of loose curls and she had very little makeup that brought out her natural beauty. I was in awe seeing her standing in front of me. I didn't expect her to take this date seriously but she actually dressed up for me! My insides did a little flip.
"Let's go," I ordered her and tried to look confident so she doesn't see how excited I was. I opened the door for her and motioned her to get inside the car. For a second I thought she'd turn her nose up at the state of my car but she just went inside without saying anything. We drove for a few minutes in silence.
"Where are you taking me?" she said suddenly, breaking the silence.
"I thought we would check out the state fair. I've been a few times and the games and the rides are really fun."
"Oh.. I've never been." She said quietly and looked away.
Never been to a fair! This girl has been missing out big time and it was my job to fix it.
"I just thought...." she started to say, but never finished her sentence.
A feeling of insecurity washed over me as I looked at her designer clothes. She looked expensive head to toe and I looked like trash next to her. She must've expected more upscale date from me. I felt angry at myself for even attempting to impress her.
"Sorry princess, you are probably used to being taken out by those rich kids who can afford expensive dinners and shows and all that. Unfortunately, that's not me." I frowned.
She looked at me immediately and shook her head no. "It's not that."
"Then what is it?" I pressed her.
"I thought you would take me somewhere and make a pass at me." She said quietly and looked away, her cheeks were flushed pink with embarrassment.
I felt an ache in my heart when I realized what she thought of me. The worst part was that she was right. I am that guy. I've never forced myself on a girl but I feel like I did take advantage of them. I let them think they had a chance with me but in reality, all I wanted was to get laid.
"Is that what you think of me?" I asked.
"Can you blame me? You act like a jerk all the time! The only reason I came out with you because I don't want to make things worse for my brother. Words can't describe how much I dislike you!" she cried out.
I tried to keep my rage under control as I heard what she told me. It didn't come to me as a surprise but it still bothered me when she said she didn't like me. I gripped the steering wheel tightly to control my anger and kept driving without saying anything. We finally reached the fairgrounds. At least I can distract myself with some games now.
