Lily Hates Me: A Love Story · Angela Lynn Carver
Chapter 31
Read online · About 2 minutes"Okay, now, tilt your hand slightly to the left side, breathe in and pull the elastic backward slowly. Keep your eyes glued to the target, now release!" I instructed.
Summer, my seven years old daughter followed my instructions and released the elastic of the slingshot. The rock flew towards the target, or so we thought it was. However, the rock missed the target completely and flew directly to the neighbor's window, shattering it completely.
"Oops!" Summer said, not looking the least bit sorry. Like father like daughter. She was our only daughter who inherited all of her mother's beauty and my sarcastic nature. That little girl was full of sass and drove her mother crazy.
"Are you guys playing with that stupid sling shot again?" Lily yelled from inside. Fear reflected in my eyes and I wanted to run out of the country. She is going to kill me.
"Quick! Hide this from Mommy before she cooks both of us for dinner." I said. "Shit!"
"You said the S word!" Summer gasped.
"There's no time, she is coming!" I whispered loudly. Summer threw the slingshot on the side somewhere.
Lily stepped into the yard. "What was that noise?" she asked.
"Oh nothing, I think someone dropped something," I said quickly.
"yes..dropped...something," Summer repeated.
Lily gazed at us suspiciously. "Uh ha...very convincing. Then why does the neighbor has broken window..."
"Oh look, a hawk!" I yelled and pointed at the sky. Lily looked up for a second and I grabbed her waist and started to tickle her ribs, making her giggle uncontrollably.
"Runaway child! Your mom is distracted! Run straight to Mexico and never look back!" I announced. Summer just laughed and ran upstairs.
"You are terrible! This isn't over yet. I am punishing you both," Lily said without a hint of anger on her face.
"But you still love me right?" I smirked.
"Yeah...for some reason I still do even though you are still a neanderthal," she said and tried to push me away.
I had a firm grip on her waist so she couldn't get away. I pulled her even closer. How is it that after all these years My heart still flutters when I look into her beautiful eyes.
"I love you, wife," I said and gazed into her ocean blue eyes.
"I love you too, husband," she smiled. Even after all these years, her eyes were still full of adoration for me.
I pressed my lips against hers and lost myself again.
