Chapter 43
Read online · About 5 minutes"What do you mean?" I looked at Anthony in confusion.
"Well...when Tony started to date Shelby, I got jealous. He was spending less and less time with me and more time with her so one day I told him that I didn't like him dating her and we started to argue," Anthony sighed. "The argument turned into a fight and our friendship turned sour."
"That's it? You aren't friends because of an argument?" I asked.
"No there's more. He continued to date Shelby so I did something nasty. I convinced this girl, her name was Jenny I think, to try to seduce him at Shelby's birthday party. So that night, I convinced him to go upstairs to the guest bedroom and when he went in, I pushed him in and locked the door. Jenny was waiting inside for him, naked," Anthony said.
I gasped. I had no idea the straight shooter Anthony could act like that.
"I know. I was horrible," Anthony said.
"Then what happened?" I wanted to know.
"Well...I got Shelby to check the bedroom so when she went, Tony was lying on the bed, with his shirt ripped open. Jenny was on top of him. I think Jenny forced herself on him and ripped his shirt open. Shelby ran away crying. Then the next day, she broke up with him," Anthony said.
"Wow," I said.
"I felt horrible about it so I went and apologize to him but he wouldn't forgive me," Anthony shook his head. "I told Shelby what I did. She was mad at first, but then she said it was probably for the best," he said.
"Huh? I don't understand," I looked at him with confusion.
"Well, it turns out, Shelby was going to break up with him after graduation anyway. She was off to college and she didn't want a long-distant relationship. So I made it easy for her to leave him," Anthony said sadly.
"But that's not fair, " I frowned.
"I know, I tried to convince Shelby but she already made up her mind. She told Tony that it didn't matter whether he cheated or not, she just didn't want to be with him," he said.
That's cold, I thought.
"I tried to talk to him again but he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He said it was my fault that she left. If I didn't create that scene he could've convinced Shelby to stay with him. From then on we pretended like we didn't know each other," Anthony sighed again. "It's a bummer because I miss him."
Okay, what Anthony did was unexpected and evil but at least he tried to make it right.
"I'm sure he will come around," I reassured him.
His eyes lit up. "You two seem close, maybe you can help me reconcile with him," he said.
Why does everyone think me and Tony are close? We aren't close!
"Eh... I don't know about that," I said.
"Come on, Summer. You have to. I really want to be friends with him again," Anthony said.
Wow, he sounded desperate.
"Okay, I'll try to get him to talk to you but we aren't close," I said.
"Really? That's weird because he always shows up when you are around," Anthony said thoughtfully.
Dammit, Tony, I knew he was giving people the wrong impressions about us.
"I don't know, I'm just approachable I guess," I shrugged. I thought about what he just told me. Sure what he did was wrong but at least he apologized for it and trying to make it right.
"Thank you for listening, you are a good friend Summer," Anthony smiled.
OOF... I hope I'm not being friend-zoned.
The next day at school, I saw Tony sitting on the bench outside by himself. This was the first time I saw him without a girl hanging around. I debated whether I should go talk to him or not. I might not have another opportunity so I went for it.
"Hey," I said.
His looked up and his face brightened. "Summer! Come sit next to me," he said. He was smiling but his eyes were dark. Is he upset about something?
"Sooo...I was talking to Anthony..." I started.
"And?" he furrowed his eyebrows.
"He told me about what happened with Shelby," I said.
The smile on his face disappeared. He must've taken that breakup really hard. "So you and Anthony getting pretty close, huh?"
"I don't know. It feels like he only sees me as a friend," I said irritably.
Tony leaned closer to me. "Who would be crazy enough to reject someone so fucking beautiful," he said in a husky voice. His eyes were so blue and intense it pierced through my soul. I felt my heart twitch.
Wait...cool it Heart...he is not the one for you, I scolded myself. But it was too late, my heart was already racing.
"Um...well, he said he is really sorry and he would like to be friends with you again," I said reluctantly.
"Oh, I see," he said grimly.
"Are you really that heartbroken about that girl?" I asked.
"No, I am over it," he said.
Why do I find that hard to believe?
"Tell him I will think about it," he said.
I nodded and stood up to leave but he grabbed my arm. "Wait...don't go. Hangout with me," he said. He sounded almost desperate and sad.
"Um...why? Where are all the girls who are so desperate to be near you at all times?" I looked at him quizzically.
"I shooed them away to make time for my gal, that's you," he smirked.
"That's sweet, but I gotta go to class in a minute. I don't like to skip unlike someone," I said pointedly.
"Fine, can I come over to your house afterward?" he asked.
What the hell? Why was he insisting on hanging out today?
"I am lonely. Pretty pleeeeeeaaase?" he made a pouty face.
"Ugh fine. But only as a friend. If you try to do anything dirty to me I'll punch you in the nuts," I threatened.
"Duly noted Miss Violence. I would never do such a thing. I have a pure heart," Tony smirked.
YEAH RIGHT
