Lily Hates Me: A Love Story — Chapter 20

"Sorry I can't hang out with you this Saturday." Lily pouted.

"Why not?" I asked.

"One of my friends from my old high school is coming over to visit so I promised him I will keep this Saturday free to catch up," she replied.

Him? A hint of jealousy sparked inside my brain and I struggled to keep a straight face.

"Who is this jackass?" I asked casually.

"JACOB! He is not a jackass. His name is Darren and we've been best friends since elementary school. He was really upset when I moved so I promised to keep in touch. He is coming over because he misses me," Lily said.

Yeah...I bet he does.

"How about this? Why don't you come over this Saturday and I'll introduce you to him?" Lily suggested.

I am not sure that would be the best idea considering how much I will be fuming to see another guy near her. But I promised myself I'd be a better person for her so I should try to get along with this guy.

"Fine, anything you want princess," I replied.

Her eyes lit up. "Great! That settles it. I'll let him know you will be joining us."

Saturday came around and I was anxious to see who this new face is. I wasn't particularly excited to see some guy get close to my girlfriend, but they were close before she met me so it wouldn't be fair to judge him so harshly. I decided to give him a chance.

We decided to meet up at a pizza joint near her house. I spotted her standing by the place, talking and laughing with Darren.

He had longish blonde hair and blue eyes. He was slightly shorter than me and wasn't built as well, which made me feel a little better. I had nothing to worry about, I told myself silently. Lily is all mine.

Lily's smile got bigger when she saw me. I went over and gave her a quick kiss. I couldn't help but notice Darren giving me a dirty look.

"This is my boyfriend Jacob," Lily said shyly.

"I am Darren," he said. "Heard a lot about you."

Good, I thought. I put my arm around Lily's shoulder and pulled her closer, suddenly feeling territorial.

"So...Lily's boyfriend huh?" he said and stared into my eyes intently. "You don't seem to be the type Lily would usually associate with."

"And what type would that be?" I challenged. Lily squeezed my hand indicating that she wanted me to behave. I couldn't wait to hear what this jerk has to say next.

"The aggressive type, the type that likes to take what they want regardless of who they hurt," Darren said.

I guess he is not trying to be my friend. I wanted to say something and put him in his place but I held my tongue. I just balled up my fist and glared at him.

"Darren please, you told me you'd give Jacob a chance," Lily said.

"And I said I don't trust him," the stupid jerk said.

I couldn't keep my cool anymore. I wanted to break his stupid mouth. I stepped closer to him. Ready to throw a punch.

"Guys, please stop. You promised!" Lily cried.

I thought about it for a minute. I wanted to hurt this shithead but I didn't want to hurt Lily. I sat there and listen to them catching up with gritted teeth.

"Remember when we went to Jessica's party and she tried to set us up? She said we would make the perfect couple." Darren said and looked at me sideways.

Lily gave a nervous smile, "yeah...she was crazy. I kept explaining to her that we were just friends but she won't listen."

"Well can you blame her? We did look like a very cute couple," he smirked.

I've had enough of this conversation at this point. This guy was clearly into Lily and was openly flirting with her.

"Well I've only thought of you as a friend so it wouldn't have worked anyway," Lily quickly said and grabbed my hand before I lashed out. I felt better as she squeezed my hand and smiled at me. "And now I have Jacob."

That's right princess, tell this fuckwad who has you now.

I started to calm down.

"I need to go to the lady's room. You two...please behave." With that, she left.

"What the fuck is your problem?" I barked as soon as Lily was out of our earshot.

"My problem is that Lily is too sweet and perfect to be with a scumbag like you! She is supposed to be with me!" Darren barked back.

"Are you fucking deaf? Or are you completely clueless? She said she only saw you as a friend and she is with me. ME!" I said hatred poured out of my eyes like lava.

"She just doesn't realize we are meant to be yet, that's all. We have been friends for a really long time so she is just confused and doesn't understand her own feelings. But I will change that," he said.

This guy was completely delusional. I didn't know whether to pity him or beat the crap out of him. I hope Lily comes back soon before I lose it.

"You don't wanna fuck with me, pretty boy." I snarled.

"Or what? You are gonna beat me up? That's what you do best right? I heard about you. I know exactly what kind of person you are. Lily will soon realize she made a mistake and ditch your bully ass." Darren said, his eyes burning on me.

I wanted to say something to put him in his place but stopped when I saw Lily coming back. He was right about one thing. I was a bully. But he is wrong to think that he could steal my Lily from me. She is my girl and I'd do anything to keep her away from him.
