Chapter 42
Read online · About 6 minutes"Hey! That's my pizza!" I yelped as Tony yanked it off of my hand and took a big bite off of it.
I was sitting at the cafeteria table with some of my friends and all of a sudden he swooped in and stole my slice of pizza. The nerve!
"Sorry, it looked really delicious from afar and made me hungry," Tony said casually like it was my problem. "Oh, hey, Carrie," he winked at one of my friends who giggled flirtatiously.
BARF!
"Why are you here?" I demanded to know.
"Just came to check on my BFF Summer. What's up, chica? Did you hop on my boy Anthony's dick yet?" he smirked.
"Ewe, why do you have to be so gross about it?" I made a face.
"Kidding. I need to ask you for a favor," he said.
Oh no. Not another one of those 'favors' where I have to break some poor girl's heart.
"I'm not helping you break up with someone again," I said.
"That's not what I'm asking," he said.
"Then what is it?" I looked at him suspiciously.
"Could you...maybe ask Anthony if I can have my Nintendo 64 back? It's a classic and he never gave it back to me. It has been a year and I want it back," Tony said.
What the hell? Am I his loan shark now?
"Why don't you ask him yourself?" I asked.
"Eh...well...it's awkward asking him because we haven't talked ever since..." he stopped without finishing his sentence.
"Ever since what?" I looked at him with anticipation.
"Nothing. Never mind, forget I asked," he said and tried to leave.
"No, wait a minute!" I cried and grabbed his hand. "What happened between you guys?"
"Did he not tell you?" he squinted his eyes.
"He just said it had something to do with his sister. Did you break her heart or something?" I asked.
His eyes went dark. This was the first time I saw him showing a serious emotion about something. "No, I know you think I am some type of manwhore but I'd never do anything to Shelby. Look, I am not going to discuss my past problems with you. If you are not going to ask him that's fine. I guess I can live without my game," he dismissed me.
"I'll do it," I said.
"You will?" he looked excited again.
"Yes. It'll give me a chance to hang out with him again so why not?" I shrugged.
"Great, thanks. Hey, so is Carrie single?" he grinned mischievously.
"Ugh! Stay away from my friends and get the fuck out of here!" I exclaimed and pushed him. He gave me the peace sign and laughed his way out of the cafeteria.
I saw Anthony after school, walking home so I ran up to him to catch up to him.
"Oh hey Summer," he smiled.
I winced as I saw his bruise on the nose. I really did a number on him. "Hey, so this is awkward but Tony came up to me today," I said.
"And...?" he looked at me questioningly.
"He...well...he asked me to ask you if he can have his game back," I said hesitantly.
He released a sigh. "Oh, I thought it was something weird. Yeah, that's fine. Do you want to come over and grab it?"
"Right now?" I asked. I was already excited to be invited to his house even though it was because of Tony.
"Yeah, unless you are busy?" Anthony asked.
"Oh no, no. I am not busy at all! I have my car, let's go together," I offered. He nodded as we headed to my car.
"Wait here while I go find the game," Anthony said.
I looked around his living room. He had a nice and cozy house with lots of pictures of him and his siblings when they were kids.
I picked up a frame that had his arms around Jessica and another girl with long black hair and beautiful brown eyes. It must be Shelby. She was very pretty. I could see why Tony would be interested in her if that was the case. I wondered what happened.\
"Put that down!" someone said so I turned around.
"Oh hey Jessica," I said cheerfully.
"What are you doing in my house?" she squinted at me.
"I am visiting your brother and well he has something that belongs to Anthony Dean so he asked me to get it for him.
"Tony? How is he doing?" Jessica asked. Her cold demeanor was suddenly replaced by curiosity and warmth.
So she likes that jerk Tony but not me? That's just bullcrap.
"He is good," I said.
"Tell him I miss him," Jessica said, sounding kind of sad.
"You don't have a crush on him, do you? I think he might be too old for you," I blurted out.
"Gosh NO! He is like an older brother to me. All of us like him. We wish he was still with Shelby," she said.
Oh, so he did date her!
"Hey, I found the game. But do you want to stay and hang out with me for a bit? If you aren't busy?" Anthony came out of the room and said.
"Yeah, let's hang out in your room," I said quickly and strode past Jessica's glaring look.
I couldn't believe I was finally alone with Anthony Turner. I've been trying to hang out with him like this but things keep happening. Maybe this time he will realize he likes me too and asks me to be his girlfriend.
His room was a typical teenage boy's room but extremely clean.
"I am sort of a neat freak," he said as if he could tell what I was thinking.
"It's not a bad thing," I smiled reassuringly. I looked around the room and spotted a small picture of two boys. I picked it up to look at it.
"My mom took it when we were about 11 years old," Anthony gave me a nervous smile.
Little Anthony was standing straight and smiling for the picture. Next to him was the mini version of Tony, making a goofy face. I smiled involuntarily. I guess some people never grow up.
"What really happened with you two? You were so close. You can trust me, Anthony," I said.
He sighed. "Well I guess I need to talk about it with someone," he said.
I patiently waited for him to start talking. Maybe I can help them rekindle their friendship later.
"Tony used to come over to my house all the time. His mom and my mom are still friends. Because of it, Him, me, and my sister Shelby became very close. Then during the freshman year in high school, he started dating Shelby, even though she was two years ahead of us," Anthony paused.
Weird, how come I don't remember Shelby? I must've been in my own world during that time.
"Then in sophomore year, Shelby came home crying. Saying Tony was cheating on her. She broke up with him instantly," he said.
"I am not surprised. It's Anthony Dean we are talking about," I said and rolled my eyes.
Anthony shook his head as if he didn't agree. "Except, he didn't do anything. It was all my fault," he said.
