A Fateful Chance — Chapter 54: FEARFUL DESOLATION

"Dianne?"

Andrew saw her right away as she stepped forward as her face looked miserable and sad at the same time. She managed to look into his eyes despite what she's feeling at the moment.

"How could you do this to me?" She said in a low voice but he could sense every bitterness in her tone. He stepped forward and faced her. He attempted to hold her arms but she suddenly took his hands off her arm as she looked at him in the eyes.

She could still remember his facial reaction as Priya had that public press conference. He looked like her personal superhero. She badly hated what she did. It's like a direct slap on her face since she's the wife.

"Don't touch me."

"Are you jealous?"

"What a stupid question!"

"Priya is a client. I just granted her request because of the years that we both had together."

"What are you trying to say? If I will let you choose between the two of us, you'll choose her?" She replied in a high, cracked voice. She can't even believe that her husband could do it to her.

She's very sure that she'll never cry in front of him. She promised herself that she'll never get jealous of Priya and Andrew...however, she realized that not everything can be predicted.

"Dianne, stop being so immature. This is nothing personal, believe me."

"So, you're still going to help her even if I don't want to? Do you know how I feel right now?" Dianne started to break down into tears that Andrew hugged her right away.

Now that they are legally married, she's very sure that she has all the right in claiming him to be hers and hers alone. Maybe, she also has the right to act what she truly felt about the situation.

"The reason why I accepted Priya's offer is because I also want to know the truth for myself."

"What?" She gave her a puzzled look between sobs.

"Priya told me more about you. The things that you're never telling me that I should know about."

"Drew...you're not giving me time for everything. You always put me in a situation where I couldn't do anything about it. Can't you wait that I will have to personally tell you about everything?"

"Look, I am sorry. I will do everything to fix the mess that I've done."

"You're not going to sleep with me. Sleep with Priya the hell I care." She slammed the door in front of him. When he turned the doorknob, it was locked.

Dianne slept inside their bed while Andrew chose to sleep on the couch. He felt guilty because of what he did. All the while he thought he could go against his wife. Now, he finds himself regretting the hasty decision he had.

He failed to remember that he has to consider her feelings above anyone else. Now, it's too late for him to even say sorry because their door was locked by her. She suddenly missed kissing and touching her. How could he comfort her when he's being jammed outside their room?

The next morning, Andrew went to his office to work on the case of his wife and what Priya wanted to do with the reinvestigation and the possible reopening of the case.

"Atty. Andrew, someone sent this tape on my table. It was addressed for you." As he examined it, he noticed that it was a CD disk. Maybe somebody wanted him to watch it. He went inside his office again.He was stunned for a moment. He knew this man. He's been very famous because he's the family doctor of the Reike family. He was familiar because Priya went with him in his office. She was very sick that time and she needed a consultation from him.

As he played the CD player, He saw Dr. McNally facing the monitor screen.

"H-Hello," He started, he is obviously feeling nervous because he is also looking at someone who was filming the scene.

"I am Dr. McNally, the family doctor of the Reike family for more than ten years now. As their doctor for many years now, I knew most of the health problems that each of the family members have, most especially Mr. Swiss's condition. I apologize to everyone who was affected by the sudden loss of the family because of his death. However, in my end, my nightmare had just started from the time that he died. I was wrong when I agreed to the plans of Ms. Priya Swiss, the eldest daughter of Mr. Swiss. She was the one who personally asked a favor to prescribe numerous supplements for her father.

At first, I never agreed to do so because of its side effects that might harm Mr. Swiss. However, Ms. Priya sent me death threats. She even told me that she will make sure to kill every member of my family if I will not agree to her terms,"

He said as she started crying in front of the monitor. He looked miserable and regretful of anything that he did for the past seven years ago.

"I apologize for my wrongdoing. I know it is not wrong but I don't mean to hurt anybody. I am also a victim of what really happened back then. I am sorry, Ms. Dianne Swiss. I hope you'll still forgive me."

He closed his fist as he gritted his teeth. From what he heard from Dr. McNally, he couldn't believe Priya could do that to her own father. He paused the video message because someone is knocking at the door that's loud and urgent.

"Atty. Andrew...you need to know this."

It is Sam, one of his colleagues in the office. One of their legal researchers.

"What is it?"

"Have you heard the news? Dr. McNally was found dead inside his house."

"What?" He stood up as he leaned both of his palms on the table. Did he hear it right?

"He killed himself by pulling the trigger right on his head. There was no foul play, atty."

He sighed as he looked at the video again. He's sure that it was Dr. McNally who sent this video to him.

Poor guy. Andrew knew that Dr. McNally will be put in great humiliation if everything will be made public. As he continued the video, Dr. McNally asked a favor to never involve his family members from what he did. Sam and Andrew looked at each other and nodded. Their faces looked sullen as they witnessed the last moments of Dr. McNally.

"Let's find out more about this. Please go with me."

"Yes, sir."

He got his things ready. He knows that he's the only one who has the copy of the video message of Dr. McNally. Although Dr. McNally will not be convicted of the crime anymore because of his death, Andrew wanted to investigate the motive of Priya and the reason behind everything.

What made her do it? If she really wanted Dianne to put to jail, then why did she have to kill her own blood for the sake of blackmailing Dianne?
