Chapter 26: LIFE’S GOODNESS
Read online · About 5 minutesDeandra's POV
Kylie hugged Deandra as soon as she arrived from their house to get her things.
"You'll be in a safer place. That's for sure." Kylie put her hands on both her shoulders as she flashed a beaming smile.
"I hope for the best." Deandra answered with misty eyes. Kylie touched her cheek as if assuring her of the things she could expect.
"Mr. Swiss will be here any minute from now. He's a bit strict but once you get to know him, he's nice."
"Dear Kylie, I will just expect the worst. I should not relax knowing that I will live in his house."
"Yeah, that's really a wonder my dear. Imagine? I just recommended you to him and it happened that you're the best pick. You're too lucky."
"Yeah, I am also wondering why me, of all the recommended ones?"
"Show him what he noticed from you that set you above the rest."
"I will try my best dear."
"I have known you to be hardworking. I know you can impress Mr. Swiss with your dedication."
"My dear Kylie, thank you so much for believing in me." I hugged her tight and Kylie chuckled. She tapped my back as she let go first.
We heard the honking of the car and Kylie nodded. The maids followed us as they assisted me with my luggages. I decided to put on my backpack as we slowly went to the parking area inside the mansion.
"Dear, Mr. Swiss's house is just five kilometers away from here. If you miss me already, you can visit me anytime."
"I will, dear." I got in the car and Mr. Swiss's personal driver was the one who got me, instead of him. I don't know what to feel. I am suddenly terrified I don't know what to do anymore.
"Ma'am...Mr. Swiss is waiting for you now."
"R-Really?" I am honestly stunned from what Mr. Swiss's personal driver told me.
"Yes. He said that he'll wait for you for lunch."
"O-Okay, sir."
"Oh, no ma'am. Do not call me sir. It's not appropriate." His driver chuckled because of what I said. Maybe he thinks I am silly for being too formal.
"Sorry..."
"If you're not comfortable, I prefer to be called Mr. Hart." His driver smiled as he politely told me about it. I awkwardly smiled at him in return. Even addressing some people, I am not even used to it most of the time.
"Okay, I will remember it Mr. Hart. Thank you so much for the ride." I said as soon as we stopped in front of a grand mansion, much bigger and spacious compared to Kylie's parents-in-law.
There's a wide lawn filled with Bermuda grass, the walls are filled with different kinds of flowers and orchids that's well taken-cared of. There's also a porch swing that is inviting you to sit down and relax already.
"Wow! The house is really beautiful!" I can't help but to be amazed by the lawn's landscape.
"Indeed, ma'am. I am sure you'll be comfortable living here with your baby." I am a bit surprised that I couldn't help but look at Mr. Hart. He chuckled as he winked.
"Mr. Swiss met all of us and told us your situation, ma'am. He reminded us to also help in taking care of you and your baby."
"Thank you, Mr. Hart. I really appreciate it so much." He smiled as he walked inside a quiet hallway inside the house. When he opened the door, a spacious living room greeted us. Since the house is made of glass, you can still see the view of the lawn from the living room.
The living room has a walnut floor with a simple and plain sofa accented with few blue pillows. This is the best thing to see, after that narrow way in going to our house.
"Ma'am...this is the way to the dining room. Everything is ready."
"Thank you so much, Mr. Hart." We walked past the living room, a wide, spiral staircase going up to many rooms on the second floor. As I looked up, there were even different minimalist chandeliers hanging that made the house classy.
We arrived at the dining room. I saw Mr. Swiss sitting on the other end of the long dining table. He's sitting while the table napkin is on his chest. He is also clasping his hand while looking at me with a serious look.
I look at the table and it is filled with different kinds of meat and fresh vegetables. There were also fruits and salads that I only see on TV. It made my stomach rumble all of a sudden.
"Please wash your hands and let's start eating. I am starving already." He said in a serious tone that I quickly moved right away. I sat on the other end of the table as what Mr. Hart instructed me. He nodded as he noticed it. The maids started to serve us with soup. It's a corn soup with crabmeat. As I am savoring it, I noticed Mr. Swiss observing me from a far distance.
I have seen Mr. Swiss a couple of times and yet I think I will never get used to his presence. It is so intimidating that I feel awkward whenever he's near. I started to be amazed of the volume of the food in front of my table. All my life, I have never seen such much food being served to only a few people. I haven't expected to experience this one because this is too much.
"Just enjoy the food. You need it so that your baby will be healthy."
"T-Thank you, Mr. Swiss."
"There's nothing to be thankful here. Remember, it is paid because you worked for it."
"I'll keep it in mind, Mr. Swiss."
We ate in silence. I admit the foods are all delicious and tasty. As I have observed, Mr. Swiss is strict even when it comes to the quality of foods. I am also impressed because several maids were serving us whatever we wished for.
So this is how wealthy people eat. I admire the sophistication and class that I am seeing right now. I also realized that if you have a lot of money, you always have the option to let others serve you. It makes life convenient, honestly speaking.
He wiped his mouth with his table napkin as he looked at me.
"If you're done eating, please follow me in my study room. I'll have all the additional information before you rest."
"Yes, Mr. Swiss." I politely nodded as he walked past me. I continued eating well as I tasted all the foods I've never tasted before. From my experience, I guess I will enjoy my new life here for the next nine months or more.
