Chapter 27: ROLL OVER!
Read online · About 6 minutes"Come in, please."
Rebecca entered the door after she knocked three times. She had seen Mr. Swiss following her with his eyes. She noticed him as he sat down on his table between the numerous bookshelves behind him.
She walked towards him and when she's near, Mr. Swiss narrowed her gaze at her.
"Please sit down." He said in an authoritative tone. She followed what he said right away.
"Did you like the food I picked?"
"Those were too much, sir. I love them." She cheerfully answered that Mr. Swiss couldn't help but form a little smile on his lips.
He pulled one of his drawers and handed Deandra three pieces of paper containing some points to review and read them well. "Can you spare me a few of your minutes to read this one?" He said as he gave me the papers he pulled from his drawer in front of him.
"Sure, sir. I don't mind at all." I politely answered as I received what he's been giving me this time.
"I hope that you will read and understand everything that is stated in every paper that I am giving you. Only then that you'll understand the nature of work that I wanted you to do."
"Remember, I am very particular even at the little details of what is required of you to do. It would be much better to work as accurate as possible."
"I will remember that, Mr. Swiss." Deandra swallowed as she nodded. Now that she's hearing from him and his actual instructions, there's mixed emotions rumbling inside her heart.
"Yes, Mr. Swiss. I will try my best."
"Work ethics and dedication are some of the things I am expecting all my employees to possess." I nodded and smiled enthusiastically.
"There will not be a problem if you will take the job seriously. Always maintain professionalism at all times."
"Yes, Mr. Swiss." I said, nodding.
"When it comes to attire, I don't require you to wear anything casual or the likes. In your condition, I will just allow you to wear maternity dresses for the meantime."
"Really, sir? It will be an advantage for me."
"Just do the paperworks and the job that is required of you. Please don't stress yourself too much. Enjoy the job."
They talked for a minute or more before Mr. Swiss told Deandra to rest in her own room. As soon as she opened the door to her room, she's almost speechless.
"Please pinch me..." She said to the maids who followed her. The two maids looked at each other and then shifted their gaze on Deandra. The maids looked at each other and giggled because of their amused reaction to what she told them.
"Please! Can someone pinch my arm...here! I just want to confirm if I am dreaming or not." One of the maids gently pinched her arm and when she felt a little pain, she shrieked out of happiness.
"Why, ma'am?"
"My room is as wide as our old house!" The two maids giggled as soon as they heard the amazement coming from Deandra. It was a normal reaction since it was her first time to witness a house this big. She couldn't believe how big could this mansion get plus, she will be having a room exclusively for her alone.
"Yes madam. The rooms are also spacious here. Even our rooms are also wide, take note, it's the maid's quarters."
"Wow!" Deandra heard herself gasping in wonder. She never thought the mansion is so wide for a few people.
"Please get used to it, madam. We are also here to assist you as you take care of your baby." The two maids held her hand. She looked at them with misty eyes.
"Thank you. I am always grateful that I am here."
The two maids helped her unpack her luggage as they entered her room. The size of a queen-sized bed truly amazed her. When she looked back the size of her bed from her old house, her bed is only one fourth of this one.
Not thinking twice, she dived on the bed and stretched her limbs that the two maids laughed at the sight of it.
"Ma'am, please be careful. You might hurt your baby."
"Oh, I am sorry." She chuckled as she felt the soft mattress against her back as she smiled.
"Ma'am, I will just put the papers that you need to read on your bedside table. Mr. Swiss told us to remind you to read everything carefully and remember it one by one.
"Yes. He already told me about it." The two maids bid goodbye to her and she is still in her lying position. She couldn't help but to close her eyes because of the comfort her queen-sized bed is giving her.
----
Deandra woke up to the smell of food and it made her hungry all of a sudden. When she opened her eyes, her smiling maid was standing in front of her, holding a tray of food. When the maid noticed that she's awaken, she adjusted her queen-sized bed by elevating the upper part. It slowly moved that made her look at herself as her back rested against it. She woke up from bed in a sitting position.
"Whoah, whoah..."
"I'm sorry ma'am but Mr. Swiss told us to have you dinner-in-bed tonight. He wants you to have a good rest. Tomorrow will be a busy day because it's Monday."
"Yes. I will read the papers after dinner. Thank you so much."
"Ma'am, please do not thank us. You earn everything that you do here and you receive from Mr. Swiss."
"Is that so?"
"Mr. Swiss told us to work every single penny and not being thankful for it."
"Yeah, that's what Mr. Hart told me too. Now, I will remember it well."
"If you need anything, the telephone is only beside your bed, we're just a ring away."
"Okay. I will remember it." Deandra stopped herself from thanking her maids. She wanted to get used to what they are talking about: earning everything that you enjoy from this house. The maids left and as she chewed her food, she reviewed the papers given to her.
She had a headache all of a sudden. It's like she couldn't understand any single word from the papers because it's all assets and wealth related. She expected a less-stressful work but it turned out to be one of the complicated facts about Mr. Swiss's business.
"What's the meaning of this?" Deandra couldn't help but to be amazed. Even if her job description is not yet clear to her, she's willing to accept any challenge. For her family, her baby and most importantly, to herself. Her growth as an individual. She's also excited at Mr. Swiss and what he's telling her about self-improvement. On how she'll not use her being pregnant as an excuse in letting herself grow as an individual. On how she will turn every mistake as an opportunity to become a better version of herself.
She scanned all the papers. She's thankful that it's only six pages in total. As a business management student, she needs to understand everything before she'll face her boss. She could still remember what Kylie told her...that she must prove herself worthy above all the shortlisted applicants to become Mr. Swiss's personal assistant.
She's almost done reading the paper when a single question greeted her. She was stunned for a moment before she could even blink her eyes...
"What business would you like to venture someday?"
She read the additional information and it says to explain it further as a proposal for tomorrow's meeting at exactly 10:00 AM. She swallowed as she held the papers tightly.
She knew it. Everything will not be easy.
