A Fateful Chance — Chapter 21: THE OTHER ONE

Deandra's POV

I worked in the library and restaurant at the same time as weeks passed by. I would often see Andrew but I always want to avoid him for many reasons.

"Hi..." I gasped as he appeared behind me one day. My heart started to race as I turned around. I could see his smiling face as he reached for the books above me while my back leaned against one of the bookshelves. I looked up and met his gaze.

"H-Hello..." I sounded like an idiot, honestly speaking. He chuckled and this situation made me feel awkward. My heart started to flutter as I avoided his melting gaze. I just couldn't stand it for so long.

"Are you avoiding me, Deandra?"

"Huh? Why would I do that?" He leaned closer to my face and smiled.

"I don't know. I just feel it deep down. Did I do something that made you avoid me?" He is still looking at me as if waiting for my answer to what he asked me. I swallowed and tried meeting his gaze again.

I badly wanted to breathe but he moved closer to me and I felt like I couldn't move a muscle anymore.

"I will go to my mini-table first." I politely told him and it made him step back a little. I sighed with relief as I started to walk away from where we are standing.

"Hey, you didn't answer my question yet."

"No. Why would I avoid you? Don't overthink, Andrew."

"Alright. You're sure about it, okay?" He gave me a curious look. I smiled in return trying to hide what I want to tell him right now.

"Yes. I am just busy with the library work. Sorry if I haven't talked to you these days."

"It's fine."

"I'll go to my table now. Please inform me if you need anything. I'd be more than happy to assist you."

"Thank you so much." He smiled as I started walking to my mini-table near the librarian's office.

'Something happened between us. You're the first to take my virginity even if I am not sure if you even have feelings for me or not.'

Of course, I have to keep these words for myself. I don't want him to think that I am inventing any form of crazy ideas to make him love me back. I don't want to give him a reason to overthink since he's busy with his lessons most of the time.

I sat on my table with a lot of thoughts running on my mind. I look at his corner and as usual, he is drawn to his books more than anything. I just attend to the needs of my schoolmates as they need assistance when it comes to their library cards. There were also students who wanted to borrow books in different genres as well.

Time flies so fast and I am done with the library work. As I went to the restaurant, I felt dizzy all of a sudden. I felt my forehead as I entered the restaurant. I went to the employee room directly and sat down on one of the chairs.The atmosphere is always busy here as soon as you will go inside the restaurant that's why I suddenly felt sick at the sight of it.

"You alright?" Kyle entered the room as he wiped his hands on one of the dried clothes but his eyes were on me.

"I guess so. I think I am just tired from my work in the library."

"You think you can still work?"

"Of course. I was absent yesterday. I can't miss today's duties."

"Good. When you're ready, please wait tables 8,9 and 10 please." He smiled as he went outside the room again. One thing I am thankful of were the people in the restaurant. We all help one another. It's the work that's tiring us all out.

I almost dragged myself as I pushed the door outside. I got the pen and the medium memo of the restaurant as I go to the tables assigned for me. I am stunned for a minute when a familiar woman is sitting on table 9. It was Andrew's girlfriend.

She's wearing a classy pink floral dress that's above the knee, and she did her hair in a messy bun which emphasized her beautiful face more.

"H-Hello, ma'am. I am Ms. M, may I take your order please?"

"Oh, I am sorry. I am still looking at the menu. Please go back after five minutes. Thanks." I nodded and stepped back right away. These are the moments that I missed Kylie the most. She usually saves me if this will happen. Now, I have to face her alone and give her orders this time.

I looked around and Sylvia put the orders of table numbers 11, 12 and 13. I bit my lower lip as I looked at her. She's one of our colleagues but we're not that close. Kyle and Ryan were also busy in the kitchen. I realized that I should face everything alone. I looked at table 9 again and she raised her hand as if letting me go near her.

I slowly walk towards table number 9.

"One mexican burger and green salad please, no dressing. Thank you." I nodded and smiled at her. I simply looked around and I noticed she's all alone. Will Andrew be late for their date? As I went back to the counter, I did not miss my gaze to Andrew's girlfriend.

I suddenly feel small while looking at her. She looked like one of those top-calibre models compared to what I looked like, physically.

"Are you alright?" Kyle asked me one more time as he put some orders on the counter table to be picked up by some waiters to give to the other tables.

"No. I am not feeling well, actually."

"Yeah, that's what I noticed a while ago. What tables are you going to serve?"

"Tables 9 and 10."

"Okay, give them to me. You can sit down inside the employee's room for one to three minutes for the meantime. If you're okay, I want you to complete the orders of tables 14, 15 and 16 please."

"Thank you so much for being considerate, Kyle. I will never forget it."

"It's okay. I don't want you to collapse while taking and completing orders as well."

I followed what Kyle, my colleague told me to do. I entered the employee room but I was able to look through the peephole about what's happening outside.

I saw Andrew's girlfriend again but this time, a different guy arrived and sat in front of her. I saw her smiling as if showing how happy she is. It was nothing compared to what I saw when she's with Andrew. I was shocked when the guy gave her a smack on the lips, to think this is a public place. What just happened? Are they really over?
