A Fateful Chance — Chapter 16: SAVING Deandra

Deandra's POV

That was Andrew! I can't be wrong!

We all turned our backs from where that voice came from. Now that I have confirmed that it was really him, I can't help but to feel weird. I twitched but the two men are still holding my arms on both sides. However, when they saw the gun from Andrew's hand, I could feel that their grip on my arm got loosen a bit. They almost froze because of what they are seeing.

"The next shot will be on your chests if you will not let go of her!" He held the gun firmly, pointing it to their chests, shifting to each one of them.

"Dude, looks like he's a police officer. He has a gun...fuck it!" I heard one of them cursing from his breath. The other man looked at him as they both looked so tense.

They let go of me right away as they raised both of their hands. I can see that they are both sweating heavily as they look at him.

"S-Sir, we're not doing anything. We'll leave now." They scampered right away as soon as they saw the gun in Andrew's hand.

Because I am still shaky, I fell on the ground because it's like my knees were losing their strength all of a sudden. He rushed towards me and he helped me as I got on my feet again. He put both my arms around his shoulders and I am almost hugging him right now.

"A-Andrew..." Because everything just sinked in just now, tears burst out from me.

"Shh, I am here now. Don't worry."

"T-Thank you so much." I softly said between sobs. He slid his hand on his left pocket. I can see that he got his handkerchief and gently wiped the tears away. This time, it's like everything is coming back in my mind right now.

"Now I know the purpose of why I passed this road. A while ago, the main road got closed because it is under maintenance. I was about to pass this road when I saw you walking very fast towards the two men. I went out of my car to double check on you and my instincts were right."

"What a coincidence but I am really thankful for it."

"Don't think about what happened today. The important thing is you're safe now." I can feel his breath because we're almost kissing each other. It's a bit awkward because his face is really close to mine. I can't help but to close my eyes as he hugged me closer to him. Right now, I can almost feel his skin chest next to mine. I hope it will not be too obvious for him. It's embarrassing to think that he felt my heart beating fast against his chest.

I gently let go of him before things could get worse. A while ago, my heart raced fast because of fear because of the two men who cornered me. However, right now, I am not sure of the reason why my heart behaves like this right at this moment. Of course, it will surely get worse because I don't want to accept the fact that I am starting to like him.

"I will go with you until you will reach home."

"W-Why?"

"Don't be ridiculous, Deandra! What if they will go back for you? My conscience will haunt me forever."

"O-Okay. T-Thanks." I bit my lower lip to stop myself from grinning from ear to ear. I looked down as we started walking beside the road.

"Come here." He grabbed my left hand all of a sudden as he pulled me closer to him.

"If you walk between the road, a motorcycle or vehicle might run towards you. Please learn how to take care of yourself." I nodded as I looked into his eyes. I am really touched because his concern is genuine. I stopped walking in front of our small house. I could see him smile as he let go of my hand.

"I don't know how to thank you. You just saved my life."

"No worries. I just did what I have to do. Please tell me if those guys will bother you again. I'll make sure they will regret it."

"Thank you so much Andrew. I will go inside now. Please take care as you go back."

"I can take care of myself. I also want to remind you of this. As much as possible, get a reliable companion. Also, if you have an option to pass on a safer way in going to your house, please go that way. Avoid dimmed places that had no lampposts."

"I will remember these things! Thank you once again!"

"The pleasure is mine. Next time, please don't you dare walk alone if you'll be passing on a dimly-lit road. You don't know how people think nowadays."

"I will always bear that in mind."

"Very good. Sorry, I guess I have to go ahead. It's getting late. Remember the reminders I gave you."

"I will. Don't worry."

I waved at him goodbye as I followed him with my gaze. I can see him walking back to where we walked on. I can hear a cute sound as if allowing the car to be unlocked. Oh, he had his own car parked on the side of the vertical major road approximately ten meters away from my house.

I am touched because he walked a long way just to ensure my safety from those guys. I thought I'll be in danger but he's a lifesaver. His timing saved me from their wicked plans. I thought I would be raped or gone forever from my family. He came into that scene even before I asked for help. He's really amazing. I can't help but to recall those scenes that happened in my mind again and again.

I took a quick bath and put on my pajamas. As usual, my mom and sisters are all sleeping now. I lay beside Dahlia who is sucking her thumb this time. She looked really adorable and peaceful as she slept. I kissed her forehead in a gentle manner.

From what Andrew did a while ago, I am not sure if I can still sleep tonight. I put my hands on my chest and felt the rhythm of my heart. It is still beating faster as if being really excited.

What is this I am feeling right now? Is this right? I slowly got up and it made Dahlia move a little. Her hand is feeling my body beside her. I lay flat on my back again as I put her hand on my waist. I can see that she smiled a little while closing her eyes.

I am staring at the ceiling as I recalled what happened a while ago. I looked at my hand that he touched. That familiar feeling is still giving me goosebumps all over my body. I realized that his girlfriend is the luckiest girl in the world for having him by her side. For me, Andrew is an ideal man any girl could ever dream of. How I wish I could also find a man like him. For me, he's already perfect.
