Chapter 11: CHANCED ACTIONS
Read online · About 5 minutesDeandra's POV
"Yeah, it's me. Hi!" I smiled in a very awkward manner as I wrote all the books that he's going to borrow to the logbook. I can see that he's borrowing six thick books in total.
"Tell me, why are you here?" His voice sounded stern that sent chills down my spine.
I could still see the shock in his facial reaction. It's as if she never expected someone like me to be in here because of what I did to him.
"I'm a student." I whispered as I pulled his arm and we went to one of the tables. He sat in front of me, not avoiding his gaze as if wanting to roast me alive.
He chuckled but in a mocking tone. He's looking at me with slight resentment. I can't help but to look down.
"Wow, of all places, why did I ever get to see your face here? Were you trying to bribe more students this time?"
"You really want me to roast you alive?" I said in a sigh.
"Oh, I can't believe this university is accepting students who simply bribe someone they don't even know."
"Please forgive me. It's not my intention to do it to you last time."
"It is not your intention? Did you forget what you do? Didn't you know that I was in a hurry that time?
"Look, I am so sorry, okay? It was just a misunderstanding…"
"Prove it." His words are penetrating my skin that scared me. I slid my hand to my pocket and pulled the 500-peso bill and put it on the table in front of them.
"That was just a mistake. I apologize for telling those things to you. It is not my intention to bribe you or anything like that."
He sighed as he looked at me but I can feel that he's still not convinced of what I am trying to explain.
"I accidentally put my two-hundred fifty peso bill on my right pocket. When I was buying some fruits in the market, I thought someone stole it from me, that's why."
"And do you think that I will just go easy on you?"
"I am trying to explain what really happened. I admit my mistake and I am returning your 500-peso bill, Mr."
"Andrew Meyers," He replied as he raised his left hand for a handshake. I bowed down a bit as I accepted it. He grip my hands firmly and let it go after a minute.
He looked at the 500-peso bill and shifted my gaze on me. I swallowed and observed what he's going to do next.
"Keep this one. Like what I said, I felt you needed that money that's why I gave it to you."
"But--"
"I don't take back what I already gave. If you want me to let this pass, don't make me remember that scene again."
"Okay." I looked down as I grabbed the money back and returned it inside the pocket of my skirt.
"Good. Thank you for this by the way." He showed the books and I noticed those were Political Science and Pre-law books.
"Please feel free to go to my table if you have any concerns about the library. It will be a pleasure to assist you."
"Okay." He said but his eyes and focus are into the books he's reading now. I slowly stood up and walked towards my table as I assisted other students as well. Even if I am busy, I can't help but glance at him time to time.
After our encounter today, I am at ease compared to yesterday. He's indeed good and approachable to everyone around him. I think I know one of the reasons why his girlfriend loves him so much.
A while ago, as we sat in front of each other, I couldn't help but admire his physical appearance. He's fair and tall, standing about 5'11 in height. He has dark brown eyes, pointed nose and divided lower lip that's luscious and attractive. I think that's one of his great assets aside from having a slightly muscular body.
"Hey, I noticed that you look so happy today." Kelly, one of the student assistants greeted me as she handed me his library card.
"Wow, it's a bit early, why are you here? You're supposed to be here before seven in the evening."
"Well, I have to study here. I need to cope up with studies." She winked. I smiled as I got her library card and put a tiny stamp on it. I also gave her the logbook for her to sign.
"I do that first thing in the morning."
"Whoah, I can't do that. I can't force myself to be here as early as 6:00 AM. That's why I just go here in the afternoon instead. So, what makes you happy?"
"Of course, I am enjoying my job here."
"Gosh, that's me during my first week of duty here. I hope you can cope with the stress of library work."
"I wish. I guess you're also happy now that it's your last week of duty here."
"Yep, it's the kind of happiness I felt when I set my foot to this place."
"I wish you the best for your future endeavors, dear."
"Thanks." She smiled as she also showed her library card to me. I nodded and she started to get lost through the aisles of the library.
I followed her with my eyes and sighed. At least now, I am thankful that everything is being settled this time. I also proved that Andrew is a nice man. I shifted my gaze on my own books as I started to scan and study my notes, too.
I can see Andrew approaching my table. I suddenly don't know what to do.
"Hey, I have to go." He said as he smiled at me. What is this? Why does he need to say goodbye to me like he has an obligation to me? He's funny I should say.
"O-Ok." I avoided my gaze at him but he's not yet leaving that I wonder why.
"Do you still need anything?"
"My library card, please."
"Oh, sorry." I quickly searched for his library card inside the long, wooden box of library cards arranged alphabetically.
"It's okay." He said as they nodded. I can see from my peripheral vision that he's looking at me as if feeling amused.
"Here." I said, I can't even look at him because I am being silly for five-minutes straight.
"Oh, I forgot something." He grinned that made my heart beat fast.
"W-What is it?" I can't help but to stammer because of his mere presence.
"I already introduced my name but I haven't got yours yet."
