A Fateful Chance — Chapter 52: INNER DEMONS

Deandra's POV

"Madam, madam!" One of my maids rushed to me as she held the remote control of our TV.

"What is it?" She stopped in front of me as she gasped for air.

"Madam, please watch the headlines! This is between life and death! Please?"

I frowned as I turned on the TV. I wonder what is it that my maid is talking about?

"Where is Lilian?" I looked at her face as I stretched my arm as I turned on the TV.

Upon hearing the news, my maid did not say a word because my eyes were glued on the news headlines. It says "Reopening of the investigation for Khalid Reike's death possible, new evidence found." Priya was interviewed by the press.

"I was silent for more than four years but yeah, he's my father. There has never a day that I never think about him."

"What the fuck?" I couldn't help but to react to my stepdaughter's dramatic press conference.

"You see...I don't want to bother Ms. Dianne Swiss. I know she's a reputable woman and I highly regard her as my real mother," She cried even more which made me want to vomit all that I have eaten before this time.

"Ms. Dein, what do you mean?" One of the reporters asked her. She only looked at her as she wiped her tears.

"Do you mean your stepmother is the one who killed your father?" Another reporter bravely rephrased the way she's showing it in front of them.

"No, please. I don't want to point fingers this time. Nobody wanted to be treated as suspects here. Nobody wants that. I just want justice for my father's death that's all."

"Madam, Ms. Priya is too much! Look at what she's doing right now! That is even an exclusive press conference."

I was not able to answer my maid because Lilian appeared in front of us.

"Madam, I couldn't handle the number of incoming calls anymore."

"Why, what happened?" I managed to ask her even if my knees were shaking too much.

"Most of the investors for The Reike Trends were the ones who were asking me about it. I don't know how to answer them anymore. Please help." Her face looked worried because she had seen my reaction as well.

Because of what I saw, I grabbed the remote control and threw it on the screen. Both Lilian and my maid screamed in horror.

"Madam, please calm down! We can handle this." Lilian hugged me tight as I started to break down in tears. I guess I couldn't handle this one because of too much shock.

"Please call my lawyers and tell them to check on their emails." I massaged my forehead because of the stress that my stepdaughter is doing to me. I noticed that Lilian is looking at me as if not wanting to believe what she just heard.

"Madam, don't you want to call your husband? He's a well-known prosecutor, right?"

"Madam! Please you need to hear this! Madam!" My maid panicked again as she pulled my arm. She grabbed her handy radio as she continued to persuade me so bad, to listen to the ongoing press conference.

"Atty. Andrew Meyers...what can you say about this?"

"You heard my client right. We will have to further investigate this case as requested."

"Andrew?" I can't help myself from gasping as I heard my husband's voice on the radio. Why would he do this to me? How could he do this to me?

"Marie, please put that radio away. Please." My maid obliged right away as she also walked out because Lilian scolded her that she got mad at her for being a nagger.

"So sorry about that, madam. I will make sure that Marie will not disturb you with news like this." I smiled but I couldn't stop my tears from falling.

"Lilian, please make sure that my lawyers will be the one to call the investors one by one. They already know what to answer them." She nodded right away.

"Lilian?"

"Yes, madam? Anything else that you want me to do?"

"Tell Walter to sleep in my room. I will be waiting for him."

"Yes, ma'am. I will." Lilian left me in the living room looking from afar. I couldn't believe Priya will have to go this far. How dare she accuse me of an action that's impossible for me to do? I learned to love Khalid, their father. For the days that we're together, I have learned to love him. I realized that he's always been good to me. I didn't even know what to feel anymore.

The thing is, why is my husband in there? He never mentioned that Priya will be his client. A lot of people didn't know that he's my husband because of my status symbol. I am always keeping myself low-key especially when it comes to my personal life.

A lot of people think that I am still single. Others think that I am only 19 when I am already thirty years old. Thanks to my skincare routines and rigorous training and exercise.

Looking at my husband, I think he's more than a traitor for not telling me. I have to talk to him about what's happening right now for I even have no idea about this one.

I sat on my bed when there was a silent knock on my door.

"Baby munchkin? Please get inside. Mommy is waiting for you."

He opened the door wider this time. I mouthed him to lock the door and he obliged immediately. He climbed on my bed and hugged me right away.

"Mommy, sister Denysse said that you want me to sleep here. Is there any problem?"

Wow. I appreciate how my baby felt about my current situation. At the age of seven, I am so proud of him because he's very observant of my facial expression.

"Work-related, baby. You may sleep by my side this time. Don't leave until mommy tells you to do, alright?

He smiled from ear to ear. It is because he will be spending a longer time with me.

Baby, look how daddy is making it hard for mommy...Of course he already reached his dream but instead of being her defender, he will become her worst enemy.
