Chapter 49
Read online · About 6 minutes"Make sure your paper is in MLA format! I won't accept it if it's not,” my father told the class. I simply rolled my eyes at this, he acted like we're in middle school.
"Do you have something you want to say, Jason?" he asked me with narrowed eyes.
"Nah,” I said, waving him off and he only shook his head at me.
"If you have a problem with my class then the door is right there. Some of us are trying to learn,” he said and I raised an eyebrow. All of this just because I rolled my eyes.
"You know what just stay after class we'll talk about this then.” My eyes widened, first day back from break and I was already getting in trouble by my own father.
I glanced next to me at Nick who was already looking at me and he mouthed, “What are you going to do?" I simply shrugged.
“Jason for the last time stop disrupting my class. Next time I have to tell you you're out,” he said sternly. Right as he was about to continue talking about the essay he got cut off by the sound of a knock and the door opening.
"Sorry to interrupt Mr. Martez,” the dean said, his eyes skimming the room before landing on me and Nick.
They narrowed a bit before he continued, “I need to speak with Jason, Nicolaus and Kyle.” The three of us shared a look before standing up.
"Jason come to class early next week. We'll talk then,” my dad said while watching along with the class as we grabbed our stuff and followed after the dean.
"Hey Mr. Anderson,” Nick said and the dean only glanced at him.
"Hello Nicolaus.” He made a face at the use of his full name and Kyle snorted.
We all remained silent as we followed after him into his office. When we arrived I noticed Jax and Tom were there too.
"Have any of you had contact with Caiden recently?" the dean finally asked and I narrowed my eyes. This was what he called us down for. All the guys shook their heads and I simply shrugged.
"Jason I know you're his roommate so you must have had some contact with him,” he said and everyone in the room looked at me.
"Caiden hates him," Tom said rolling his eyes. Oh how I wish that was completely true.
"If any of you hear from him I want you to tell him that his father would like to have a word with him,” the dean said waving us off. I noticed his eyes were as cold as Caiden's which made me wonder. Why was it so important to find him? I mean I haven't seen him since that day he came over before my awful date. That was a week ago.
Oh right I should probably explain. My date with West went terrible due to that fact that the waiter tripped and all of our food went all over us. It was funny now but it obviously wasn't then. Now that I thought about it I hadn’t talked to West since that day.
"Caiden has probably been skipping too many classes again," Tom said laughing.
"I don't think that's it. The dean wouldn't have requested all of us down there if that was the case,” Kyle said, grabbing a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket.
"Man you really shouldn't be doing that stuff. It could kill you,” I said, my voice still deep. Kyle snorted and all the guys burst out laughing.
"Why don't you leave the real men to hang out while you go spy on your daddy,” Jax said and the laughter slowly came to a stop as they all looked at us with curiosity. I was glad we were already out of the building because at this point I didn't really know what would happen.
"Jax shut the hell up,” Nick hissed and Tom raised an eyebrow.
"Man what are you talking about?" Tom asked and he shrugged.
"Don't look at me. Why don't you ask your good friend Jace?” If looks could kill Jax would have been six feet under.
"Jason!" Nathan yelled, waving. A huge smile crawled its way on my face at the sight of my best friend. I hadn’t seen him or Mia in what felt like forever.
"Nathan, perfect timing!" I said and Nathan started to slow down as he gets near all of us obviously sensing the tension in the air.
"Hey Jace,” Nathan said, putting his arm over my shoulder.
“Nathan I'm sure you know. Don't you think little Jason here should stop hiding his secret?"
"What secret?" Nathan asked, acting confused.
"Don't go playing dumb Nathan,” Jax hissed.
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about,” Nathan said, narrowing his eyes at Jax.
"I'm done with this little act. You've already told me your reason for being here. I think it's time everyone knows, I mean you should know by now if your daddy is cheating,” he said and Kyle, Tom and Nick stared at me curiously.
He was right, I should know by now. I have overstayed my welcome at Johnston University.
C'mon Claire, I thought you had a backbone. Since when is it okay for some guy to push you around.
I do have a backbone, I told my conscious.
I mean I've been here for months now. I've made friends and enemies and as soon as I tell them it may change. I wanted to get into that girl's school so I knew if something went wrong with my mom's plan I would at least have an education still.
I need to find Caiden and then that woman.
"Who's your dad?" Tom asked me, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"It's Mr. Martez right?" Jax asked.
"Martez only has a daughter and a son in high school,” Kyle said, rolling his eyes.
"Oh that's right. I mean if Mr. Martez was your dad that would mean that your name would have to be either Claire or Jeffery,” Jax said and I glared at him with hatred. I don't know what I ever did to him to deserve this. He must have some motive for making my life a living hell.
"I can't do this,” I muttered running away. I couldn't bear to see their reactions.
My body collided with another making us both fall on our asses. Just great this why I should watch where I'm going.
"Oh Jason I'm so sorry!" Eddie said, standing up and helping me up. I brushed off my baggy jeans and my tee-shirt and waved him off.
"It was my fault don't worry about it,” I said and he nodded. I frowned when I noticed the bags underneath his eyes. He looked like he hasn't slept for days.
"Hey Eddie are you okay?" I asked him and he immediately put a fake smile on his face.
"I'm perfectly fine why?" he asked, pulling on the end of his long sleeve shirt.
"You seem sad,” I said as softly as I could in my guy voice.
"I'm fine. Listen I'll see you later,” he said grabbing a book off the ground. He rushed off and my eyebrows furrowed as I watched his figure leave. I've been so focused with myself I haven't taken time to try to help Eddie. I guess I really can be selfish.
