Chapter 39

Read online · About 9 minutes

“You could have just done this with Nick you know,” I said taking a seat on a stool.

“Yea, I could've but I didn't."

“How is he?" I'd only seen him when we had a class together and we'd never talked to each other.

“I didn't come here to talk with you about your ex-boyfriend," Caiden said dryly before drowning a shot. A new song came on and I smiled widely when I heard what it was, “Bang Bang” by Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Jessie J. Grabbing Caiden's hand I dragged him out to where everyone was dancing.

“My goal was to drink a bit then get laid- not dance,” he said not moving making me roll my eyes. I knew how to get him dance. “Fine you can go sit then,” he looked at me with narrowed eyes. Turning around I let my eyes scan the room looking for someone cute to dance with. A guy that looked to be in his fifties smile at me making me almost gag. I saw a pretty hot guy leaning against a wall texting and my hot red lips curved up into a smirk. Walking over to him confidently with a little sway in my hips, the guy looked up, noticing my figure heading his way.

“Hey will you dance for me? It's kind of my first time here and my friend won't dance with me. I don't want to look like a loser,” I said to him innocently and he nodded putting his phone in his pocket. I smiled smugly looking over my shoulder at Caiden who was now sitting at the bar with narrowed eyes. Pulling the guy over to the middle our bodies move together easily.

"Hey what's your name?" I yelled in his ear so he could hear me over the loud music.

"Taylor Jones. How about you?"

“Claire Martez,” I said smiling at him looking at his dirty blonde hair that covered most of his green eyes.

"Is that your boyfriend over there?" he asked me, nodding over to Caiden who was currently giving off one of his oh so famous death glares.

"Nah just a friend,” I said and he nodded.

"Wanna give him a little show?"

"Why not.” I smirked. “Follow my lead,” he told me with an evil glint in his eyes. He spun me around so my back was touching his chest. His hands moved down my body and I easily took the hint he wanted me to grind against him. Doing exactly that I glanced at Caiden to see him heading over here with clenched fists.

“I didn't recognize you at first,” Caiden said, making us stop dancing and face him. Was he talking to me?

"Taylor Jones. It's been awhile. How's Jesse? Is he still sending you letters from prison?" Caiden asked, I noticed he was tense and his eyes would scan the room every few minutes. I automatically took a step away from the Taylor when I heard the mention of prison.

“Caiden Anderson, you're right, it has definitely been a while. Jesse's fine he only just arrived there not too long ago. Ask him yourself in nine years. “I intently listen to the conversation. I had no idea what this whole conversation was about and who this Jesse guy is.

"How do you two know each other?" I asked once we were all sitting down at a table in the corner of the club.

“We're old acquaintances,” Caiden said his words came out almost menacingly.

“I take as you're still dealing then?"

“No, actually we are working on something for Jesse. He has a few things planned for after prison and he can only succeed with our help." Taylor says pulling out his phone when he got a text.

“They're in California," a girl said coming up to us making my eyes widen.

“Who are all of you?" I demanded tired of being left in the dark. The girl glanced at me before rolling her eyes.

“Just keep your mouth closed while the grownups talk,” Caiden hissed quietly to me in my ear. Deciding to listen to him I stayed silent.

"Lilly, it's a pleasure to see you again,” Caiden said and she smirked. “Is she your new whore?" I frowned, offended. In my opinion I didn't even look like a whore.

"Nah I'm not like you and Taylor,” he replied, causing her face to turn red in anger while Caiden's face stayed blank of emotion.

“We have to go." Another guy came up to us making me groan obnoxiously. I'm never going anywhere with Caiden ever again. It was becoming obvious these people were in some type of gang or mafia thing.

“Why?" Taylor asked his eyes scanning the room.

“That Liam guy is here." What?

There are plenty of Liam's in the world.

But how many are involved with gangs?

"Liam who?" I asked my voice coming out calm. I was ignored as they continued their conversation.

"What running from another agent Chris?" Caiden asked a deadly smirk on his face.

“This one was working with that chick Riley that put Jesse in jail." Riley? Are they talking about Nathan's sister?

“We seriously have to get going before they find us again. I can't have them on my trail again. Let's get on a plane to San Francisco and talk to that girl Jasmin and her brother. We have business to take care of with them,” the guy Chris said my eyebrows furrowed at all of these unknown people but Caiden seemed to know exactly who they were talking about.

I knew for a fact now that they were talking about the same Liam I dated a year ago. He was an agent in Europe and he was the first guy I fell in love with him. Part of me still loves him since we broke up for all the wrong reasons. Apparently you can't date anyone outside of the agency.

Realizing I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't even notice that everyone that was at the table left,” I wasn't expecting them to be here,” Caiden said honestly.

“Are you in some type of gang?"

“Hell no. I wouldn't get caught up in that shit,” he said before snapping his fingers at a guy walking past the table. Tell that Jack guy I want a couple more drinks,” Caiden threw two twenties at him and I shook my head.

“He's probably going to keep those you know,” I told him.

“He won't even make it down the street alive.” Sighing, I leaned back and jumped a little when I noticed Caiden's arm was behind me on the booth.

He needed to move that.

I didn't mind.

No one asked you.

I am you, so you didn't need to ask.

Sighing, I leaned back again, this time into his arm. “So what made you break up with him?" I looked up at the ceiling before closing my eyes, not responding at first.

“It was just something that had to happen,” I told him not exactly lying.

“Have you ever had a girlfriend?" I asked and he snorted.

“I don't date. Girls don't deserve my time.” I let out a laugh shaking my head. “Why am I with you right now then? And don't say because you want to get laid. If that was the case then you would have tried hitting on me more than once tonight."

“Something about you has me intrigued, baby doll,” he said and I snorted. If only he knew that I contemplated putting a spider on his bed at one point. Our drinks were set in front of us and I mumbled a thank you to the man.

“That's interesting due to the fact that I'm a boring ass person."

“And I'm a fun ass person but that's beside the point,” he said with a smirk.

He had the ass part right.

“What I truly found interesting and intriguing about you was when you came to the school dressed as a guy. I'll admit I didn't notice at first, though I probably should've based on your reaction to me being naked,” he said sipping his beer. My whole body was frozen and the air in the room was almost suffocating at this point.

“Did you know that a cat has nine lives?" I asked nervously. Do you remember that time I told you I start to ramble about things when I get nervous? Yea, it's happening.

“Have you had sangria before? It's really good. I don't think it's strong enough for me though. I'll go get a few shots. You know what maybe just a couple bottles of whiskey,” I said starting to slide out of the booth and Caiden grabbed my wrist stopping.

“No you're staying here. No running, I've waited a long time get this out of my fucking system.” Sighing, I moved back into the booth, this time keeping quiet.

“I never told anyone your secret. I mean you obviously have reasons for pretending to be a guy.” He chuckled making me look at him suspiciously. I drowned my drink down, emptying the glass. Do you think it would kill me to become an alcoholic at age nineteen? I mean I'll be in jail by the end of the night anyways.

“So I'm curious baby doll, why'd you do it? It has something to do with your dad the English teacher and that lady.” I've had to explain this story to many times. I grabbed someone's drink as they walked past taking a sip.

“Bitch,” the person muttered.

"My mom thinks my dad is cheating and sent me undercover to find out,” I said taking another sip of the mysterious drink. Whatever it was burned my throat and made me instantly buzzed. No more drinks after this, I thought to myself watching Caiden drown his drink down also. After a few minutes he still didn't say anything making me shift awkwardly crossing my right leg over my left.

“I wasn't expecting that,” he said, making me raise one of my perfectly waxed eyebrows. “What were you expecting?" He simply shrugged. “I must give you props though for getting someone to act as Jason,” Caiden said before sliding out the booth on the other side.

"Let's dance,” he said and my jaw almost dropped.

"You want to dance after everything that just happened."

"I just said that. C'mon I like this song.” I shook my head a small smile appearing on my face and slid out standing up.

“You are definitely a strange one."

You're a strange one, Mr. Grinch.

Those weren't the right lyrics.

Shut up. I make my own lyrics.

“Only because I like this song,” I said as we made our way over to the dance floor. The song Jealous by Nick Jonas was playing but I could hear it was coming to an end, the song switched over to an old song you know the one talking about apples bottom jeans. I couldn't think of the name.

It was almost strange dancing with the one who I should hate for everything he's done to me, yet for some reason I don't. Of course we weren't ballroom dancing or anything special like that since we're in a club with upbeat music, but at the same time it wasn't something anyone would expect. I mean me, Claire Martez dancing with Caiden Anderson. The part that would surprise people the most is finding out that I got this man to show emotion other than hate.
