Chapter 24
Read online · About 11 minutesTwo words to describe an outing with Mia, Nathan, Tom, Nick and the ass. Never again. Our lunch at seven in the evening was basically Caiden being his usual completely cold self throwing in a few curse words every now and then alongside Tom flirting with Mia next to a jealous Nathan. Yeah, it didn't go well. Currently we were getting ready in Mia's hotel room while the guys sat on her bed or around her room. “Take me back to LA with you," Tom begged and Mia snorted.
“Usually guys beg after you give them one night not before,” she said rolling her eyes.
"Hey I said almost the same thing earlier to Nick!"
"No, you didn't.”
"Shit I only thought it,” I mumbled to myself. I gave Nick an innocent smile before slipping in my plain black earrings. I checked over my quick outfit I chose for the party and nodded. I was wearing a red skirt, and a black shirt with a black leather jacket over it. I decided to pair it with a cute pair of boots as well. Yes, I did own something other than vans. I wasn’t sure what it was, but college made me actually want to try. Some people take this time to dress down and a break from makeup, but I never was that type of girl. College made me want to grow and be an adult.
"You're like opposites," Tom pointed out and Nathan chuckled.
"Their personalities definitely clash at times,” he said and Mia and I rolled our eyes. I looked over at Mia's outfit to see her all dressed up in a tight dark blue dress matching the dress with the same color blue heels. Her makeup was perfectly in place while mine is the same as earlier.
“I'm not going to lie. I was hoping Mia would find a way to get you into a dress,” Nick said pouting and I shook my head.
"I mean I’m not really minding dresses anymore, but I don't see the point in dressing up all nice to just go to some college party where everyone is going to be completely drunk,” I said honestly and Mia scoffed.
"Let's face it Claire. You just don't want to dress up after the whole Lia-" I tackled Mia to the ground putting my hand over her mouth.
“Think before you speak,” I hissed glaring at her and she rolled her eyes pushing me off of her.
“Are you trying to break my ankle?" She held out her hand signaling she wanted some help and I grabbed it pulling her up.
“It's fine.” She moved her left ankle around a little and shrugged when she didn't feel any pain.
“Mia, don't pick on my Claire-bear,” Nathan said hugging me close to him. He tucked my head underneath his chin and I saw something flash in Nick's eyes. I wasn't stupid and could easily detect it was jealousy. But I didn't pull away. Nathan is my best friend and would always come before anyone else. And the same goes with Mia she would always go before anyone else, they were family.
“Okay a little too comfortable right there,” Nick said grabbing my arm and pulling me toward his body.
"Get used to it,” Mia said, rolling her eyes. We all headed down to Mia's car and we took the hour and a half drive to the party.
“Why is it so far?" Tom complained about halfway through.
“Because this guy feels he shouldn't live close to wannabe wealthy people. So he had his own house built in like the middle of nowhere,” Nick said rolling his eyes and making quotes with his fingers.
“He sounds like a prick,” Nathan concluded.
“Who cares if he is a prick or not! We are going to celebrate me being here!” Mia said sending glares at everyone in the car. Caiden gave her a blank stare and Mia quickly focused on the road again. Seeing someone with no emotion is actually kind of scary for those who don't know.
Eventually we arrived at a huge house that was like the size of the White House and Tom jumped over my lap and exited the car rolling into the grass. I scowled at the fact that he could have easily jumped over Caiden’s lap and Nick patted my thigh.
“As much as I enjoy this I would love it if you would get off now. My butt feels like it's permanently indented to the seat.
“Who's the designated driver?" I asked once we were all out of the car and no one answered making me sigh.
“I'll be it,” Caiden's deep voice said after a moment and Mia squealed clapping her hands.
“Claire, let's go get wasted!" She yelled and grabbed my hand dragging me down the street and into the house the party was in. She dragged me straight to where the bar was in the house and got us each a drink.
“What is this?" I asked smelling the drink, it smelled familiar but I couldn't remember the name.
“I don't know I told him to give me his best and strongest,” she said, gulping half of it down like a shot.
"Damn just one sip makes you buzzed! Let's dance!" she yelled, dragging me to the living room where the music was coming from. I shook my head at my crazy best friend and started to let loose. I moved the liquid around before deciding to take a small sip. I didn't really want to get drunk since I didn't trust the asshole to look after me. A few hours of dancing and a little bit of drinking Mia was completely hammered. Luckily, I was still okay since I didn't drink much.
"Tell her you want her but next week you do your own thing,” Mia yelled in my face shaking her butt before taking another large gulp of her drink. “Why you do why you do that?” Mia continued to yell the song that wasn’t even meant to be yelled.
"I can't explain it but just know it working for me. She text me I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you, but how the fuck can you hate me when I ain't did shit, but be the real thing,” I sung with her as we both point at each other, singing loudly. You know the DJ is drunk when 6Lack comes on at a party.
"It's true. I really do like that booty," Nick said in my ear grabbing my butt and I gasped in surprise, He, in response, smirked kissing the side of my neck.
“Have you been drinking?" I asked, smelling the beer on his breath.
“Of course,” he said and started to dance with me. I took another small sip of my drink and my eyes widened when I realized why it was so familiar.
“Mia," I called, noticing she disappeared. “Nick, what is it that you had to drink?" I said worriedly.
“Some clear liquid, it was probably straight vodka." He shrugged, not at all worried.
“I don't think this is Vodka they're handing out. I'm pretty sure it's moonshine,” I retorted.
“So?" Nick shrugged, his clouded mind obviously wasn't realizing what was wrong with this situation.
“Nick, moonshine is like poison. Too much of it can kill a person!!" I said snatching his drink out of his hand. I was thankful I only had a couple of small sips.
“We have to find Mia. She's been drinking that stuff all night. “I said pushing my way through the sweaty bodies. With my hand holding tightly onto Nicks. It didn't take long to find her since she was standing next to the little bar in the kitchen. I snatched the drink out of her hand the second it was brought to her lips.
“No more,” I said adamantly. She burped in my face loudly and giggled.
“I'd say that was a good one mate,” she said her words slurring together at the same time she tried to do an Australian accent. She was usually pretty good at the accent but due to the unfortunate intake of alcohol it seemed like she was trying to mock them or something.
"This good-for-nothing asshole has been serving you moonshine,” I told her, and she gasped dramatically before bursting out in a fit of giggles. I throw the drink at the guy and ignored his comments that involved probably every curse word to ever exist.
“Let's go get you some water,” I said as she stumbled a little standing up. I didn't even bother getting a water bottle knowing they probably were filled with something else.
“Hey Caiden said he's ready to go," Tom said.
“Did he drink a lot?"
“No, we played beer pong but he gave me all of his drinks." Tom shrugged, he seemed to be able to hold his alcohol very well. Tom helped me lead Mia outside after getting her a plastic cup with water. Nick easily followed us only tripping on his feet a few times.
“Finally," Caiden said when he seen us. I put Mia in the backseat of the car buckling her up.
"I am a grown adult!” Mia said and rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, a drunk adult," Caiden said checking the time on his phone. Impatiently.
“I'm drunk and I love it,” she yelled throwing her hands up in the air. I didn't respond and shut the car door.
“In a hurry?" I questioned.
“He has a midnight hook up," Tom said pushing Nick in the car.
“No, I don't,” Caiden retorted rolling his eyes. I ended up stuck next to him in the passenger seat. Right as he started the car I gasped opening the door and jumping out.
“What the fuck are you doing?!"
“We forgot Nathan!" I sighed in relief when I saw him on his way to the car.
“Where have you been?" I asked.
“Playing truth or dare,” he responded I could tell he has definitely been drinking by the way he was walking. I smiled knowing all of my friends enjoyed them self also. It was nice to all get out and away from school. Once Nathan was in the car with Mia on his lap we were finally ready to go.
“Let me smell your breath,” I say to Caiden before he starts driving.
“What?" he retorted and I repeated my statement before. He rolled his eyes and blew his breath in my face.
“You're too close for my liking,” Nick said, sticking his head in between the seat and pushing our faces away from each other.
Caiden grunted, “Nick, I don't want your slut."
“I guess you're okay to drive,” I muttered knowing he didn't have anything to drink by his minty breath and attitude. The car was quiet and I could easily sense some tension in the air between Caiden and Nick.
“Well I had a great time," I say putting on my seatbelt. Smiling slightly to myself as I turned up the music to hear one of Mia's Fall Out Boy CDs and quietly sung along. Nick and Tom started to talk quietly in the back but just like Mia and Nate they were both asleep about a half an hour later.
“Why do you hate me so much?" I asked quietly. “And don't say because I'm a slut. We both know I'm not,” Caiden ignored me and continued to focus on the long, dark, empty road. I sighed but frowned when we started to slow down.
“Why are we slowing down?" I asked nervously, glancing over at the tall corn fields that surrounded us. I would never understand why one would want to live out here. Caiden started to check everything to see if the engine light was on or something once we were completely stopped. A scowl appeared on his face as he tried to start the car up again.
“What's wrong?"
“We're out of gas,” he said between clenched teeth.
“What?!" I yelled and Tom jolted awake.
“What? What's going on?"
“We're out of gas."
“What are we going to do?"
“If you two say the word what one more time I'm going to strangle you. Both of you shut the hell up. Maybe she has a gas can in the back.” Caiden got out, popping the trunk open and I sighed in relief when he came back with a gas can. I didn’t notice the solemn look on his face.
“There's no gas in it,” he said, obviously trying to hold back his irritation.
“So can we call someone?" Tom asked and Caiden turned his usual glare to him instead.
“We're out in the middle of nowhere. We are better off walking and getting our own gas we'll be sitting out here all night waiting for someone. There should be a gas station about thirty minutes away in walking time so I’ll go get some gas and come back so we can get away from the slut and her fucking friend,” Caiden said slamming the car door.
“Wait he can't go alone! It's like two in the morning! He could get raped by some creeper or stolen or even I don't know!"
“Well you can't take care of a bunch of drunks by yourself so I have to stay here either way. Why don't you go with him?" Tom suggested shrugging and I bit my lip watching a muscular back start to disappear into the dark.
“Fine, lock the doors and we'll be back soon,” I say quickly rushing out of the car and running toward Caiden's disappearing figure.
“Why the fuck are you coming with me?"
“Because it's not safe to walk alone on a deserted street in the middle of the night."
"It's two-fifteen."
"It's almost the middle of the night."
"Just don't talk and we won't have a problem."
