Love Over Everything — Chapter 30

“I want to discuss something with you, Ty.” Tyler placed his iPad aside and gave his mom his attention.

“What is it, mama?” He asked, the curiosity in his eyes piercing through her soul. In as much as she was unsure as to how Tyler was going to react, she wanted to tell him about his father, Christopher. This was a topic she never discussed with him and she was nervous about it.

Now that Sarah knew about Tyler’s existence, Naomi was sure she was going to tell Chris so she wanted to prepare Tyler for whatever would happen.

“I want to talk to you about your Daddy.” She noticed Tyler looked confused upon her statement.

After a few seconds of silence, he asked, “I have a Daddy?”

“Yes, you do, ” Naomi replied with a nod.

She never knew Tyler to be an emotional person and her heart broke into a million pieces when she saw tears in his eyes.

“My friends have Daddies, I thought Tyler does not have a Daddy.” A tear rolled down his cheek.

Naomi felt terrible.

“Don’t cry, my love.” She pulled him into a hug and Tyler sobbed in her chest. She tried to calm him down so she could explain things to him in a way he would understand.

“I was a bad baby that is why Daddy left Tyler and mommy.” Naomi was shocked; She pulled away from the hug and wiped his tears with her thumb.

“You’re the most obedient kid I’ve ever known Tyler and I wouldn’t trade you for anyone else. Daddy is not aware of your existence that is why he has never been here for you. It’s not your fault okay?” She assured and he nodded, wiping his tears with the back of his palm.

“Will Daddy love me, Mama?” He sniffed.

She smiled, remembering Christopher has a soft spot for kids. No doubt he will cherish his flesh and blood. “He will, just like the way he loves your sister.”

Tyler’s face brightened upon Naomi’s statement. You wouldn’t believe he was the same person crying a few seconds ago.

“I have a sister?!!”

“Yes, you do.”

“Do you want to see your Daddy’s picture?” He nodded instantly.

Naomi opened one of the drawers by her nightstand and reached for a brown envelope. She brought out the pictures and showed them to Tyler. They were pictures from the good times they spent when he came to California.

The smile she saw on Tyler’s face was priceless as he looked at the pictures.

“Daddy looks like Tyler!” He announced excitedly.

Naomi tried to hold back her tears. She nodded and answered, “Yes, you look like him, honey.”

“What’s my Daddy’s name?”

“Christopher.”

“Daddy’s name matches with mine. I’m Christian, remember mommy?”

She smiled. “Of course, I do.”

“I like this one.” He showed Naomi a picture: Christopher and Naomi were in a cosy position; She was blushing while Chris placed a kiss on her cheek.

“Okay buddy, you can have it.”

“Thank you, mama, I’ll put it in a frame beside my bed.”

“When can I see my Daddy and my Sister?” Tyler asked Naomi with one of his puppy dog faces.

“Soon, my love.”

“Thank you mama.” he wrapped his arms around his mom and hugged her as tight as he could.

“Mom? Dad? What a pleasant surprise!” Christopher greeted as soon as he stepped into his office. He kissed his mom on the cheek, hugged his Dad before settling on the chair behind his desk.

Julius succeeded in convincing Sarah not to call Chris because the situation was not something to be discussed over the phone.

Sarah agreed only because they would be leaving California very early the next morning. They came to see Chris straight from the airport.

“Is anything the matter, mom? You look stressed.”

His eyes widened “You guys are not dying right? Is Susan okay?”

Julius chuckled, “Calm down, son.”

“No one is dying. We came to see you for something very important.” Sarah said.

Chris nodded. “I can tell it’s important. That was why I rounded up the meeting a few minutes after my secretary told me you guys were waiting for me.”

Christopher could tell his parents had something important to say. Usually, they would tell him to stop by the mansion for them to discuss.

His father, Julius, comes to his office once in a while since it was the family’s company but his mother hardly set foot in the company. He was beginning to pray for all to be well concerning what his parents had to say to him.

“Son, why didn’t tell me something happened between you and Naomi?” Julius asked.

Christopher frowned wondering if his dad had forgotten he has a right to his privacy.

“But something happened between you two, right? please be honest with us.” Sarah pleaded.

“Mom... ” Christopher groaned.

“I know you liked and still like Naomi. I got to know you were serious about her and was willing to take what was between you guys to the next level. But was there anything between you two? Did you guys get intimate?”

Christopher fiddled with his fingers. “We made love. But Mom, why the questions?” He asked and was surprised to find a sad smile on his mother’s face; Her eyes were glossy, she was holding back tears.

Julius nodded, giving her permission to tell him. He held her hand as she did so.

“I want you to listen, do not interrupt until I’m done.”

Christopher nodded.

“As you know your Father and I went on vacation for our Anniversary. Anna, Naomi’s mother, invited us to her husband’s birthday dinner which was why we had to make a stop in California.”

“At the party, I tried looking for Naomi but all efforts proved abortive. I only saw her at a far distance and before I could get close to where she was she had disappeared.”

“I went to the garden to receive your Sister’s call and that was when I finally saw her, She was leaving the party. Honestly, I was afraid to approach her but at the same time I wanted to see how she was doing.”

“I called her, she pretended not to hear me so I decided to go after her, hoping I would catch up with her and I did.”

“Naomi was holding a little boy, he’s the same age as Zoe and he looks so much like you. He called her mama. The little boy is your son, Christopher.”

Christopher looked between his parents, finding it hard to believe what his mom said. He opened his mouth to say something but words failed him.

“I... Is... I don’t know...I mean, Mom, Dad, are you sure about this? Naomi would have told me if she was expecting my child.” He shuttered, looking all confused.

Julius nodded while Sarah spoke “We are very sure about this Chris. Even her parents are not aware that you are the father so there was no way they could have told us about our grandson.”

Christopher ran his fingers through his hair before burying his face in his hands for a while.

He stood to his feet, reached for his phone, wallet and car keys.

He responded to the curious looks his parents were giving him. “I’m doing what I should have done four years ago, I’m leaving for California, Naomi and I have to talk.”

Julius smiled, “You can go with the Jet, just get your ass to the airport.”

“Thanks, Dad” He hugged him and kissed his mom on the cheek. “I don’t know how long I will be gone for but we will stay in touch....”

On his way out, he told his secretary to cancel all appointments until further notice because he was on an emergency leave.

Chris went back to his apartment, changed into casual clothes, packed a suitcase and found his way to the airport.

Christopher was consumed by his thought as he rested on his favourite Sofa on the jet. He couldn’t believe Naomi hid his son from him for four years. All these while he had been showering all his love on Zoe without knowing he was a father of two.

Suddenly the confidence he had turned to that of nervousness. Even though a part of him was pretty excited about seeing Naomi, he was mad at her for keeping his son away from him. But he became nervous when he thought about how he was going to face his son. He has missed so much in his life and he felt terrible about it.

Christopher did not know how long he slept until one of the hostesses came to wake him to buckle up that it was almost time to land.
