Chapter 16
Read online · About 4 minutesChristopher disguised himself well before boarding the plane. He wouldn’t have to if he had taken his private jet. He was going back home, a place where he was popular. He knew there would be news everywhere about the so-called wedding and Seeing his face in such a bad state will only give room for more rumours.
Christopher’s sister, Susan Smith got to the airport on time to pick him up and she did the honour of taking him to his apartment.
She made him stay in bed after which she dashed into the kitchen to prepare something for him to eat. Susan was able to gather ingredients for spaghetti and sauce and then she began to make dinner for her brother.
When the food was ready, she put a little in a plate for Chris, grabbed a bottle of water and took it to his room.
Christopher groaned as soon as Susan walked in with a tray of food. She placed the tray on the nightstand and sat on the bed beside him.
Susan was five years younger than Chris. She was petite and had golden brown hair which she inherited from her mother. Susan had always been the family’s favourite and she was very close to her brother. She graduated from college a few years ago and was currently working in the accounting department of her parent’s company which Chris was now in control of.
“But you know I can’t chew right.” He said in a not so clear voice. It was even harder for him to make a clear speech. Naomi’s brother hit him really hard.
“I know” Susan replied with a sad smile. “That’s why I made the spaghetti soft so you won’t have so much to chew. I know you haven’t had anything since morning so please eat the little you can.”
She reached for the plate and gently placed it on his lap. She watched as he reluctantly took a forkful of spaghetti and swallowed instead of chewing. Susan didn’t mind, as far as the food gets to his stomach.
As Chris continued eating, she reached for his phone beside him, typed the correct password and kept herself busy by looking at his recent pictures.
As soon as Chris finished his food, Susan took the plate away from him. She searched his luggage which was beside the bed for his medicines and handed it over to him. She laughed out loud as she watched him take his medicine after which he gulped down a whole bottle of water. Susan and her brother were never fans of medicines and hospitals even though they kind of preferred medicines to needles.
Susan sat opposite her brother who had his head rested against the headboard. She took his left hand in her small soft ones.
“Thank you for the food.” He said.
Susan nodded “She’s very beautiful.”
Christopher knew who she was talking about so he nodded his head in approval.
“I’m so sorry Chris, I wish there was something I could do about it. I tried talking to mom this weekend but she was way too involved with Vivian to even see reason in what I had to say. The fact that Vivian is giving her her first grandchild is making her think marrying her is the best thing right now.”
“You don’t have to be sorry for me Buba, I guess happiness isn’t for me. I’m not even worried about myself right now. I’m worried about Naomi. She doesn’t deserve all that she’s going through.”
“Do you believe in love?” Susan asked him with a sincere look.
“I don’t know what to believe again, Buba.” Buba was a random nickname he gave her when she was little.
She squeezed his left hand that was in hers and said “I believe in love Chris and so do I believe in destiny. If you and Naomi are destined to be together, you guys will and no one will stop you both, not even Vivian or the baby she’s carrying.”
“I’ll dwell in your speech.” He gave her a sad smile.
“But I’m still angry at her brother for doing this to your face. And don’t you dare defend him.” She raised her voice as soon as she saw him opening his mouth, wanting to say something. Shocked would be an understatement to describe the look on Susan’s face as soon as she saw the bumps and bandages on Christopher’s face. He had explained to her all that had happened on their way from the airport.
“He should have approached things another way and not by violence.” She reasoned.
“I guess he’s hot-tempered. Besides, I don’t blame him, if someone did the same to you, I would have done worse than what is on my face.”
