Chapter Twenty-Three

Read online · About 9 minutes

As soon as Tori and I got to my house, I started pacing back and forth.

"What’s wrong?" Tori asked.

"Everything! Nothing is right anymore. This unknown bitch is seriously going to expose me!” I said with tears in my eyes. “She freaking crossed the line this time. I mean, she painted my car! My car! It looks like a freaking rainbow!” I said, falling on the couch.

"Clover, get off your ass and deal with your problems. We need to think of something. She’ll pay for the car when we catch her. At least, we now know it’s not some jealous celebrity or something since the note came in school. But we can go around tomorrow asking if anyone saw anything and see if it works," Tori said, walking into the kitchen.

"Yeah, and with my luck they’ll completely ignore me,” I said before hearing a door slam shut.

"Clover Ann! Go change and meet me in the kitchen," Mary said, walking in.

"Sure, don't knock. Please feel free to come in whenever you like,” I mumbled sarcastically as I headed upstairs. Tori joined me as I changed into the outfit I was wearing this morning.

"Mary has a key to your house? Who else has a key?" Tori questioned suspiciously.

"Just me, Mary, Mom, and Dad. Why?" I said, taking off my wig and glasses. I brushed my hair out and just left it to flow in its natural waves.

"We need to look at your door and see if it shows and scratch marks,” Tori said.

"We can do that later. I have to go talk to Mary about all this. I called her the other night but she was half asleep and didn't know what she was saying. She told me she’d be over today to talk about this all again properly this time," I said while we made our way down stairs to the kitchen.

"Hey, Mary," we said in sync, sitting down on the high stools.

"What’s up?" I asked.

"Cut the crap, Clover. Your secret is going to be exposed?" Mary asked.

"Yeah, some bit—”

"Language. You can speak more appropriately as this is an adult situation,” Mary snapped, cutting off Tori.

"Yeah, some girl wants to expose Clover," Tori said, taking a bite out of a red apple.

"Yes, you said that on the phone too. You say expose you? And how would they do that?" Mary asked, rolling her eyes.

"She took my accessories to go undercover. I went out and got new stuff today, but she also painted my car. That’s some vandalism, breaking and entering, stalking, harassment,” I listed off realizing the seriousness that actually came with this. “This person needs to be found and put into jail! This is past pettiness now."

"You sound ridiculous. This is such a small thing. We’ll take care of it. Wouldn’t it just be easier to expose yourself already before someone else does?" Mary suggested,

"I’m just saying, Clover, you have been doing this for years. Since you were three, you were in beauty pageants getting first place. Maybe you should just let out the secret and live how all the other celebrities live with being followed by Paparazzi everywhere they go. Teenagers live just as fine now as they always have with less privacy. You will be fine," Mary said, grabbing her purse and keys before standing up. "Well, I have to go. See you soon. It was nice seeing you Tori," Mary said while getting ready to leave the room.

“Let me know if that’s what you want,” Mary said before blowing a kiss and leaving.

Once the front door closed, the silence was finally broken. "What the hell is she on?" Tori questioned.

"I have no clue but I know I am not giving up my privacy that quick," I said, shaking my head. I worked too hard to just give it all up now. "Now, let’s go check the door for those scratches," I said and Tori ran over to the door.

"So, if the door handle is all scratched up then it means someone broke in with a bobby pin or something, but if the door is nice and shiny and new like it always is then that means someone broke in with a key," Tori said, opening the front door. We looked at the door handle and it indeed looked nice and new.

"Someone with the key is either helping or is our person," Tori said, slamming the door.

"Where are you going?" I asked, catching up to her.

"I need coffee," Tori said as she waited for me to unlock the garage. I rolled my eyes and unlocked the garage then went to my blue car.

"I can use at least three cups, so let’s go!" I said as we hopped in.

"Wait, I need the keys," I said, smiling sheepishly. Tori handed them to me, causing me to give her a questioning look.

"I knew you would take your second baby," Tori said, rolling her eyes. When we got to Starbucks, we ordered and immediately sat down.

"So, it’s either Mom, Dad, or Mary working with this Unknown Person," I said with a sigh, sipping my iced coffee. "It can't be my mum because she likes that I have at least some privacy so I don't think she would try let my secret out."

"Hey, Lucky. This was for you," April, the cashier said handing me a purple envelope with a familiar red kissy mark in the middle.

"Thanks, April. Do you know who gave this to you?" I asked.

"No, some girl came in and she left it on the counter after I gave her to drink to her,” April said, shrugging.

"What name did you write on the cup?" Tori asked.

"I think it was Anne but I'm not sure.” she said, shrugging. “I have to get back to work. If you two need anything, just let me know," April said and we nodded before facing each other.

"Anne?" Tori whisper-yelled.

"How the hell would Anne know my secret?" I asked.

"I don't know but open the envelope," Tori said.

I nodded and opened it.

"What does it say?" she asked.

"Nothing," I stated.

"Nothing? Then what is it?" Tori asked.

"A picture of me in jail and a flash drive," I said, handing the picture to Tori and taking out the black flash drive.

"Come on, let’s go back to your place and see what’s on it," Tori said.

We quickly waved goodbye to April and left. We got back to my place with only a few interruptions from paparazzi, grabbed my laptop and sat down in the living room. As the video started, I couldn’t help but gasp.

It was a video of me making out with Andrew and the cops coming in. Me being put in handcuffs and being taken out of and shoved into the cop car. Then it changed to being in the actual jail cell. Everything was filmed, me and Andrew arguing with a cop. But also, I looked like Lucky and the cop called me Clover.

"You kissed Andrew?"  Tori sputtered out in surprise.

"Apparently, I don't even remember anything until being arrested. It’s all a big blur. I was completely drunk," I said before dialing Andrew’s number.

"Hello," Andrew said into the phone, sounding a little breathless.

"Andrew, stop making out with some girl and get your ass to my place now," I yelled into the phone before hanging up.

"Wait, what was that?" I asked and we rewinded the video seeing words appear on the screen.

Dear Clover,

I hope you can now see that I have your whole career in my hands. I will give you one more chance. You have till Friday to reveal you’re Lucky or else I will. I have hundreds of pictures from that night, Clover. By the way, I hope you liked your car, red was a bit dull, so I figured you’d like some more color. You know what they say, make sure you can taste the rainbow.

Kisses,

Unknown.

"Well, I guess I'm going to school as Lucky tomorrow," I said with a sigh. I couldn’t stop the feeling of defeat from sitting on my chest.

"No, you are not. April told you it was left by a girl named Anne and there is a special girl named Anne in a certain bitches’ group. We know it’s her. So tomorrow we will go up to her in school and tell her we know it’s her who sent the message and then we get her not to tell anyone and we are good to go," Tori said, and I bit my lip, thinking about the plan.

“Yeah, but we don’t know it’s for sure Anne. You can tell Starbucks that you’re Beyonce and they’ll write that on the cup,” I argued.

“It’s at least a chance. It’s hope, Clover,” Tori pushed.

"You’re right. We’ll go find her immediately tomorrow morning," I said just as the doorbell rang. "Now I'm getting answers from that night."

"You know that chick was really hot," Andrew complained, walking in as I opened the door for him.

"Really, Andrew? What’s her name then?" Tori asked.

"It was Britney,” he said confidently. “Wait, maybe it was Sarah? No, both of them were last night. I’m positive it was Kelly," Andrew said, causing us to roll our eyes.

"Now, what did you want?" he asked, looking in my fridge.

“We kissed in the club and we never talked about that factor going out.” I said, in reality, I partially wanted to see how he felt about it. We couldn’t even detach ourselves from each other.

I pressed the play button and showed him the video.

"Damn! We kissed like that and I don’t even remember it completely," he said disappointedly and I smacked his arm.

"So where did you get this?" he asked and I started explaining all the notes.

"So, do you know who it is yet?" he questioned with an eyebrow raised.

"Well, when we were at Starbucks, April gave me the note. I asked her who dropped it off and she said it was left behind after a girl named Anne got coffee," I explained.

"Anne?" he asked and I nodded.

"But wait, remember what we were talking about at the café, Clo?" Tori asked and I shook my head.

"There is someone helping her and it’s either Mary or your dad," Tori said.

"Why would your dad try to ruin your career?" Andrew asked, grabbing a Pepsi.

"My dad doesn't like me. At all. He thinks modeling is stupid and it’s a waste. I apparently will never get anywhere with my life," I said, shrugging.

"Well, tomorrow we are going to confront Anne and make sure she doesn't tell Clover’s secret if it is her, and we can also find out who is helping her," Tori said.

“I’m in,” Andrew agreed.

"Wait, if it is Mary helping her, then the question is, why would Mary ruin her number one model?" Andrew asked me.

I paused, thinking carefully. "Now that, I don't know."
