Chapter Twenty-Two
Read online · About 9 minutes"Clover?" Tori yelled walking into my kitchen where I was eating an apple.
"What are you doing? I thought you were coming to pick me up. I had to walk all the way here." Tori sighed dramatically, sitting on the stool.
"You had to walk six houses. I have had to run three miles. You'll live," I snapped with an eye roll. Tori put both of her hands up in defense as she looked at me with a frown.
"Okay, who pissed in your Cheerios?" she questioned while grabbing her own apple.
"I’m sorry. I'm really stressed,” I said, unintentionally sighing again.
"Wait, what on earth are you wearing? No wig or glasses or even a retainer? Where the hell do you think you’re going?" Tori asked.
I didn’t respond at first as I looked down at my outfit. My denim shorts went perfectly with my flowy tank top. I was ready.
"To school," I said with a serious face, causing Tori to burst out laughing.
"That’s funny. Now hurry up and change. We can make it to school right before the bell rings if we leave now," Tori said, grabbing my van keys off the hook.
"Does it look like I’m joking?" I asked with a frown, causing Tori to sit back down, dropping the keys on the counter.
"What happened? "Tori asked.
"Someone broke in last night—"
"Oh, my gosh, are you okay? "Tori said, interrupting and looking for any injuries. I glared at her and she mumbled a sorry.
"Like I was saying, someone broke in last night. I wasn't home but the door was opened when Andrew was walking by and when I got home, Andrew told me he didn't see anyone inside. But last night when I was laying down, I noticed my left dresser drawer was opened and my undercover stuff was all gone. But they left this note," I said, handing Tori the letter.
She quickly read it and gasped. "So, you're just gonna give up? You’re going to go to school as Lucky and expose that your real name is Clover Thompson? The girl who is the most famous model in the world, you’re just going to give up all your privacy and everything you worked for because of one bitch. You’re falling into their trap. You need to show them you’re not giving up your secret that easily. C’mon. we’re missing first block."
I stared at my friend in awe. I really had the perfect best friend.
She grabbed the keys once again and this time, I followed her outside. She had me wait as she ran inside really quick before she reappeared with a bag. Part of me didn’t want to go through with this anymore, since I knew Tori was right, but I had to. The secret had to come out eventually.
When she changed the set of keys and got into the black audi, I couldn’t help but frown. "Where are we going, Tori?" I asked softly, not bothering to argue.
"We, my friend, are going to the store," Tori said.
"You are not driving my baby!" I said, ushering her out of the car.
"Okay, okay, chill. Drive to that place that sells everything, including wigs," Tori said as we started pulling out of my driveway.
"The mall?" I questioned, amused.
"Yes, that's it!" Tori exclaimed, causing me to let out a small laugh.
"No questions! Let’s just go!" she said, getting out, and I followed behind her while she dragged me to the hair place.
"Hello, ladies. What can I do for ya?" a girl named Daisy asked us.
"I need to look at all the brown wigs," Tori demanded.
"Please," I added and Tori just rolled her eyes.
"We only have a few brown wigs, but you may look," Daisy said, pointing over to the shelves.
Tori wasted no time in dragging me over there. "Too short. That’s a boy’s. That’s not even brown.” She dragged her hands through each one.
"What about this one? It looks like my old one, just longer," I said and tried it on.
"Perfect! Let’s go buy it and then we’ll cut it," Tori said as she went to buy it. The wig went down to my butt so after we bought it we cut it so it went a little longer then my shoulders.
"Next, let’s go to PINK!" Tori said.
"Why are we going to PINK?" I questioned as she dragged me out of the wig place.
"Because if we go there then we can get some cute shades,” she said with a duh voice and I paused.
"You can’t get the glasses we need there. We have to go to an actual eye place," I said while starting to head the opposite way.
"Right? I knew that,” Tori said and we rushed into the eyeglass place.
"Did you get your prescription for these glasses?” the lady asked us at checkout.
"We actually don't need a prescription. We’ll just pay the price for them now and then we’ll go," Tori said and the lady just rolled her eyes. We swiped my card and paid for them before she handed us the bag and we left.
"What else?" I asked.
"We need to get you a retainer," she said and I shook my head.
"For now, I can live without it," I said and she nodded.
"What time is it? "Tori asked and I checked my phone.
"We have twenty minutes till first block ends, so we just have to get home and change," I said.
"Nope, we won't make it before second block, so we will have to go to school and you can change before the bell rings. I was thinking ahead and grabbed some clothes for you. I’ll make sure the bathroom is cleared then I can stay guard while you change,” Tori said and I nodded.
I arrived at school, and we immediately stuck with plan. No one saw us coming in so luckily there weren’t any problems and it all worked out.
"Tori, Clover! You both made it!" Katy said as Tori and I walked to second block together. I didn’t question why she wasn’t in class and only plastered a fake smile similar to Tori’s.
"Yeah, we had a sleepover and stayed up late," Tori said, clearly not missing her suspicious gaze.
"Oh, well, you didn't miss anything amazing," Katy said.
"Oh really?" I said, uninterested.
"Wait, actually Andrew has his new girl of the day," Katy said suddenly.
"Who is in the player’s hands this time?" Tori questioned, not sounding surprised.
"Anne," Katy said, walking with us.
"Anne? From Stacey's group?” I asked, surprised.
"Yup. Well, gotta go. See you later," Katy said with a wave before heading the opposite way.
"Tori! I think we forgot about something." I said with wide eyes, pausing in the middle of the hall.
"What?" she asked with furrowed brows.
"We brought the Ferrari to school. California or not, no one in the whole school has a car as nice as that," I said.
"Yeah, I guess it didn’t work out as planned. Guess we are taking the bus home," Tori said and kept walking.
"This is my baby we are talking about. I am not leaving her here," I said as I caught up with her.
"Her?" she asked, amused.
"Yes, her,” I said matter-of-factly. The bell went off as students filled the halls, preparing to go to their next class.
"Okay, well then, we will have to be the last ones leaving or the first ones," Tori said.
I thought about it before nodding my head slowly. I could deal with that.
"Oh, and Tori?" I called when we sat down in class.
"Yeah?" she asked, looking at me.
"Thank you for being amazing," I said with an appreciative smile.
"What are best friends for?" she said, returning a smile.

"Hey, Clo, Tori," Chris said, sending us a nod as we sat down next to them at lunch.
"Where have you been?" Jasmin asked, picking at her fries.
"We had a sleepover last night and were up late so we slept in," I said, eating my chicken salad.
"Oh, really? "Jasmin asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, it’s not the first time," I said, ignoring her stare. She obviously didn’t believe me but she shrugged it off anyway.
"Hey, babe," Andrew said, sitting down next to me, causing me to scowl at him.
"Why are you here? Again?" I asked, annoyed.
"We are all best friends now! I mean, we have all been to jail together. Well, not Tori, but I never liked her much anyway, so it’s not really like that’s a bad thing," Andrew said, stealing a fry from Jasmin and causing her to glare at him.
"Don't worry, the feeling is mutual," Tori said with a scowl on her face.
"Hello," Katy squealed, sitting down by Chris.
"What’s got you all excited?" I asked Katy.
"Caleb Brown just asked me out!" Katy said before squealing again.
"What did you say?" Tori asked and everyone gave her an, '”Are you Serious,” look and she just looked away, sipping on her milkshake.
"Obviously, she said yes, dumbass," Andrew said, rolling his eyes.
"Well, yeah, but I want all the details. Still, congrats, Katy. Let us know how it goes," Tori said, throwing a packet of ketchup at Andrew.
"Of course, I will, and Tori just a tip, you shouldn't drink that large of a milkshake. If you want to get a boyfriend, too, then you got to cut down on those sweets, girl," Katy said sweetly.
"Oh, yeah, um I'm—" Tori started saying but I cut her off.
"Tori can eat whatever she likes. If a guy only cares about her size then he clearly isn’t worth it, but thanks for looking out for her, Katy," I said with a fake smile.
"I didn't mean it in an offensive way. I used to eat the same way, girl,” Katy said apologetically. But I still could tell there was a glint in her eye that showed she really didn't mean her apology, but I just shrugged it off. We only spent another fifteen minutes in the cafeteria before I went to my locker.
I opened my locker and immediately a purple envelope fell out. I looked around and luckily, no one was with me nor paying attention to me. I noticed on the front of the envelope there was a kiss mark.
Whoever was sending me these was definitely is a girl. I opened it.

Dear Clover,
Nice job getting a new outfit, but you can't hide forever. I tried being nice and letting you expose being Lucky yourself. Sucks you had to ruin it. So, I guess it’s my turn now. Clover, your secret will be out soon enough. Hope your day is as great as you are.
Kisses,
Unknown.
I stared at the note before quickly putting the note in my purse with shaky hands. Things were not going to end well.
