Chapter 33

Read online · About 8 minutes

It didn't take long for my body to react unnaturally as I pushed myself away. To my luck, my hand was resting on one of the red cup that was sitting in the cup holder. As I pushed, I felt myself unbalanced as my whole body tumbled forward.

A soft yelp escaped my lips as our heads found each other's. The moment my forehead hit against his, I started to feel a painful tingle lingering in the center of my head. The water from the cup I'd just tumbled over went flying as all the water sprinkled over us as if there was an indoor rain.

Regaining my senses, I put my hand on Landon's seat and pushed myself upwards, covering my forehead with the other hand.

"Ow," I murmured as I watch him do the same. We both stayed in that awkward position, slightly wet from the cup and suffering from the pain we've just experienced.

"How can you be so clumsy," he mutters under his breath. I might've just knocked the sleepiness out of him.

"Sorry," was all I managed to say before groaning as I dragged the upper half of my body back to my side of the car.

He blinks multiple times, rubbing his forehead while pulling the lever underneath his seat. As he adjusted the seat back into a sitting position, he looked at me with his eyes squinted. I couldn't help but feel the knot in my stomach spinning around and hitting every nerve in my body.

I flashed an awkward smile, soon adjusting my attention back to the city view.

Silence fills the air as all we could hear was each other's brushing from the water that dampened our clothes earlier. I could sense Landon getting quickly annoyed at he looks at his shoes; to what I infer probably got wet. A smirk sneaked across my lips as I quickly pressed my lips together in a thin line when Landon looks up at me.

A smile crept upon his lips as he slightly leans towards me, elbow resting on the shoulder of his seat.

"If you wanted to kiss me, you could've just said so," he teased, raising an eyebrow at me; flashing an uncontrollably attractive wink.

Holding my messed up feelings back, I leaned away from him and against the window.

"Woah there, buddy," I awkwardly spit out, curling my arms against my chest in effort to defend myself from him, "The last person I'd ever want to kiss is you."

As he leans further towards me, I felt my air being sucked out of my chest. It was getting harder breathe every single time he inches closer to me.

"Doesn't look like it when you kissed me back at the mall," he teased, poking a finger at my head playfully.

I sat up in defense and couldn't help but gasp at his comeback. That moment when we kissed at the mall slipped my mind quickly after it happened.

"You kissed me!" I screamed at him, pointing my index finger at his chest almost stabbing my nails through his rain jacket.

He shrugs before recovering back in his seat, "You wouldn't shut up, so," he mumbled underneath his breath as he stretches his arms out.

"You seem to hate me, a lot," he speaks up again, however this time there was a sense of weakness in his voice.

Brushing off his sudden change in attitude, I answered with a sly, "Because I do," before silence quickly fills the air again.

Meanwhile, Landon drifted off into the hard thinking stage that he was in before he took his nap. I licked my upper lip, observing his features as he kept his gaze ahead of us. Although his eyes were traveling back and forth on the city lights, he was lost in deep thought. He had his tongue slightly sticking out between his lips. Can't believe I kissed that thing.

I cringed at the thought.

It was quiet for about five minutes before I found myself getting seriously curious of what was on his mind. I swallowed nervously, overthinking the situation. Maybe he was mad at me?

It took up so much courage before I finally spoke up, snapping him away from his thoughts, "What's wrong?" I asked, with the soften tone as I can possibly put it.

Landon looks at me, a small smile plastered upon his lips as he shakes his head.

"Nothing," he responded. However, there was something in his eyes that tells me otherwise. There was definitely something wrong.

"Are you sure?" I turned my body slightly towards him, pulling my left leg onto the seat as the other rests casually off the seat.

He nods, breathing in deeply before answering with a tired "Yeah.

I scoffed at his act. Even though he's put on quite the show to convince me that he was fine, I was able to look through his little act. But I shook off the idea. It wasn't my position to force the situation out of him, I don't own him.

I leaned my temple against the headrest, fully turning my body towards Landon. I found myself just observing his face as he looks elsewhere but my face. He seems to be looking back and fourth at the features of the car. The window and door behind me, the seat, the cupholders; anywhere else but my face.

Observing the awkward scenario, I couldn't help but release a laugh from his actions. He finally looks at me, amused by my laughter.

"What?" he asks, slightly laughing himself.

"Nothing, nothing," I reassured, slightly giggling between my lines. Never have I thought, Landon Carthy would be so awkward with a girl in his car before. That little ego that he had at school definitely had changed.

"You make me feel so," Landon chuckles as he pauses between his sentence, "nervous."

His words caught me by surprise, my heart begins to flutter as the knot in my stomach comes back to make me feel light on my feet. My lips slightly parted, without any words slipping out. I was slightly speechless by Landon's confession.

"What?" I managed to speak up, slightly stuttering with my words as he looks at me innocently with his light blue eyes. Although it was dark, the lights from the city peaked through the front window, flashing us with bright yellow tinted highlights.

"Nothing," Landon shakes his head, feeling slightly defeated from my response. He sends me a smile before flipping the key that was resting in the ignition. He turns on the engine, as the car rumbled, smoothly vibrating against the sandy floor below us.

It didn't take long before he reserved the car, hopefully taking me back home to where I should be in bed by now. A yawn crept out of my system as Landon keeps his eyes on the road. I leaned back against my seat, feeling the warmth of the leather seats quickly making me comfortable. I was trying so hard to fight against the blackness that was soon taking over my eyes.

Sighing in defeat, I just closed my eyes as I still tried to keep myself internally awake.

"Aubrey," a voice echoed through my mind, "Aubrey," it calls again.

I felt a hand resting against my shoulder as my eyes fluttered open. The visual in front of me came clear after blinking for more than five times. I took a deep breath that seems to relax me more against the warm seat.

I heard a soft laugh as the hand continues to shake my shoulder, before I could close my eyes again.

"What?" I muttered between my teeth, tired. I opened my eyes a little wider revealing a wild Landon, hovering over me through the car door.

"You're home," he whispers softly, not wanting to interrupt my sleepy bubble. I felt annoyance creeping up my back, groaning as Landon continues to shake me softly against the seat.

I heard Landon releasing a loud sigh, before he says something my mind couldn't figure out. Suddenly I felt two hands creeping behind my neck and my lower back. My eyes widened at the sudden action and before I was able to figure out what was happening, I felt the cold air brushing against my back.

"Landon!" I called out as I clung onto his body. His arms were wrapped around me, my face were only inches away from his chest as I heard him grunt from my sudden push. As much as I love to go to my bed, the seat from his car was extremely comfortable and I am not the type of person to easily wake up from a slumber.

I growled, irritated as I slapped his chest uncontrollably, almost crying from the sudden shock that crept upon my body. All I knew that was happening was the fact that I was waken up, in the most uncomfortable way.

"Aubrey," I heard Landon releasing a laugh as he drags me out of the car. I groaned, finally forcing myself on my feet, pushing Landon away from my body.

"Good night," he amusingly stated, as he watches me lurk towards my house. I released a yawn before sending him a half wave, entering my house after unlocking the door.

"Hey, Aubrey," Austin greeted.

With my eyes half opened, I turned my attention towards Austin as I mumbled a greeting, closing the door behind me.

"You have a visitor," Austin tells me, as he sits nearly sprawling out on the couch. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, as I approached the living room.

As I stepped closer towards the living room, the view of the room widened as I was able to capture the rest of the scene. Sitting on the love seat sofa with its back facing me, a familiar figure with short black hair and a track high-neck jacket was staring off straight ahead. Until he heard my name, he turned around.

"Isaiah?"
