My Bad Boy’s Ego · Author not credited
Chapter 32
Read online · About 9 minutesLandon looks up at me from the paper, eyes filled with a little worrisome but mostly guilt. My mouth was open, speechless as all I could do was stare off into the blank space. It felt like my heart had stopped.
I shifted uncomfortably from my seat.
For three years? Eight grand in three years.
I can hear Landon turning towards me in his seat, the soft leather creating a soft sound of friction as he tries to make eye contact with me.
"I can help you," he spoke up in the silence, voice soft as it'll ever get.
Even though I know his intentions were to help me out, I couldn't understand how a nineteen-year-old man, is able to throw around his money; specially to help out someone who he probably despise since the beginning of our meeting.
"No," I bluntly answered, shaking my head in disbelief, "I don't need your help, Landon."
He leans towards me. Although there was a tight space in the car, his body managed to speak itself as well as giving me the personal space that I rightfully deserved.
"Please," he begged, whispering in a sense. He places his hand on my knee as he peered through my gaze.
"No, Landon," I said again, in a harsh tone, "Every single time you've tried to be nice, something has to go wrong."
Silence fills the air again as I laid back against my seat, closing my eyes from the stress that was rushed over my body. Half of me feels annoyed by Landon's constant insist on helping, the other half of me feels guilty from my always pushing Landon away. No matter how many times I've attempted to push Landon away whether it's physically or emotionally; he still shows up out of the blue.
"Fine," he answers as he closes the manila folder, tossing it in the backseat carelessly. I can sense Landon starting to feel heated from my denial. He sighs, loud enough for me to hear before starting the engine on his car, "You handle it then."
I pressed my lips together, realizing that this was possibly the first time Landon has ever showed his anger towards me. Normally, he would fight back or do something to make me feel a little more insecure; this time he was quiet. He was really mad.
Without bothering to second guess his actions, he stomps on the gas as he reversed in speed; changing gears and sped out of the parking garage. My heart skips its beat multiple times but I had to much pride to admit my sensitivity in fast moving cars. Instead, I slipped my right hand underneath my right thigh, gripping the back of my leg tightly as he rushes down the empty street that was starting to get darker.
Although there was awkward tension in the car, I was too busy thinking about the life-death crisis that could kill us in any minute. Landon keeps his eyes on the road, blankly. His left hand resting on the driver's wheel as his right hand was casually holding the gear stick. He looked extremely calm ironically to his actions of swerving left and right on the highway while running over a hundred miles per hour.
While cutting off another sports car, the driver of that car soon gained some aggression and caught up to our speed. I watched in shock as I see Landon making eye contact with the other driver controlling the white Tesla. I felt the two of them smirk from both of my sides before they exchange winks; racing down the highway as the two begins to charge at each other.
Second after seconds, both of the car were head for head, switching lanes and cutting off other drivers acting as if it was a police chase. I shut my eyes tightly as our car sped up, I could feel my body being forced back into my seat due to the face paced car. My heart has skipped too many beats for me to even feel alive at that point.
"Landon," I finally screamed out, fear rushing through my nerves. My hands couldn't help but cover my face as all I can hear were engines and tires screeching from the two cars.
Almost immediately, I felt the car slowing down. It was still moving in a fast pace, but the car that was racing against us earlier has already sped off into the darkness. I heard Landon laugh a little bit, as he starts to feel joy from the adrenaline and fear we both just experienced.
Soon enough, the car was slowed down to the following speed of other normal drivers on the highway. As I removed my hands from my face, I saw Landon's face looking at me with amusement. His whole attention was off of the road as he smiles as me; his anger seemed to quickly disappear from before.
"I can't stay mad at you," he states in a soft-lowly voice, as he turns his attention back onto the road.
Crossing my arms, I sighed in relief as I discovered that we were still alive even after that deadly situation. Landon however, didn't seem to be so affected by it. I'm guessing he does this on a daily basis; which explains to how calm and experienced he was as we were racing down the highway even with cars lingering around.
It didn't occur to me until a few minutes later that Landon had already passed the exit leading back home a long time ago. He was still speeding straight, passing all the exits that can possibly take us out of this highway.
"Landon," I asked quietly. He looks over at me for a brief second, returning his gaze to the road, "You passed my exit."
"I know," he casually stated, smiling at the road.
"Can you please take me home?"
"Nope," he teases, emphasizing the 'p' with the pop sound through his lips, "Can't do."
Rolling my eyes, I soon got comfortable with the faster pace he was going on the road, "Seriously Landon. I've had enough."
"Trust me," he reassures, holding his hand up from the gear shift. I sighed and leaned back against my seat; knowing that I won't be able to win over the driver of this car. I sat there in defeat as we continued our way down the highway for as long as a lifetime.
As thirty, forty uncountable minutes passes by, Landon finally turns into an exit leading up to no where but darkness.
"Where are we going?" I asked him, shifting uncomfortably in my seat as I squinted my eyes through the darkness.
Landon releases a chuckle, "Calm down," was all he told me as he continued his task.
After many turns and lane changing, within the darkness shined a little light. As we get closer to that little light, it appeared to be many lights. I furrowed my eyebrows in curiosity as the view of the lights begins to multiply, changing color, and getting larger.
My mouth slightly opened as Landon finally stops the car in what appears to be a cliff. We both sat there as we observed the scene in silence.
There was a beautiful big bridge; we had front seat views of it. It was diamond white, cars racing down the bridge as the red and white lights compliments each other beautifully. Further behind the bridge was the view of the downtown city. Lights flickering, standing out from the darkness and represented nothing but pure beauty.
I was so speechless, I almost forgot about what had happened prior to this moment. Stumbling upon the thought, I pressed my lips together and sucked up all of my excitement, replacing it with a stubborn crossed arm and an exhausted sigh.
From the corner of my eyes, I see Landon amusingly grin, pulling the lever on his seat for it to lean back.
"Aren't you hard to impress," he cooed, tossing me a teasing wink as I continued attempting to ignore him.
"I want to go home," I say as I feel my body sulking against the warm leather seat.
I looked over at Landon, already seeing him relaxed against his side of the car. His hands were resting behind his head as he stared up at the roof of the car, something obviously lingering in his mind. He seemed to ignore my beg as I couldn't help but think about what was keeping him so distracted.
Should I call his name?
I shook the thought out of my head as I looked forward, softening up my little mood as my eyes landed on beautiful lights. For some reason, the thought of my mother traveled back into my mind, as both of us were sitting in deep thought.
My mom was beautiful, I couldn't exaggerate that enough. It sucks to not be able to see her face. I missed out on the motherly figure that everyone else seemed to have. I couldn't help but sigh, my eyes blurred out the lights in front of me as all I could picture was the photograph of her on the file.
My gazed dropped towards my hands resting on my lap. Unknowingly, my lips form a small frown as I felt my heart tugging against my chest.
I wanted my mom.
Never have I thought I could feel a certain way towards someone I haven't met before.
Soft breathing from Landon slowly broke my chain of thoughts. I looked over at Landon where his head was tilted towards me, eyes closed peacefully as his soft lips rested against each other perfectly. His eyelashes were extremely long for a male, and his hair was effortlessly flared upwards, revealing his perfect sized forehead.
I stared at his face, soon feeling guilty for everything I've caused him today. Yes, he's done some things that I possibly wouldn't thought of forgiving him for, but he's also done things for the benefit of me too. I sighed again, smiling a little bit at the thought of his kindness.
A strand of hair suddenly slipped from the bundle, landing in the middle of Landon's forehead. The little movement seemed to disturb Landon a little bit as his eyebrows furrowed, however quickly unraveled as he took a deep breath. He drifted back into his dream.
Staring at the bothering piece of strand, I stuck my tongue out slightly as I quietly leaned towards him, bringing my hand up to his face. Trying not to disturb his slumber, I gently grabbed the piece of hair and pulled it back up towards the rest of his hair.
His eyebrows furrowed again as he shifted from his seat, head still facing me. I jolted back, bringing my hands defensively towards my chest as I watch him settle down again. The piece of hair was still there.
Dang it!
I bit my tongue this time, and leaned towards him again. Slowly, and as quietly as possible, I pressed my index and thumb finger together as I held the strand of hair, attempting to set back to its original place.
Then Landon's eyes fluttered open.
I froze in shock, my jaws slightly dropping. Landon looks at me in a confused expression, soon to realize that our faces were only a few inches apart. His eyes were still slightly widened, his cheeks turned into a rather rosy color; something I've never seen before. The color of his cheek was quickly replaced with a smirk, indicating that he's successfully woken up from his little nap.
Shit, Aubrey.
