Chapter 26

Read online · About 7 minutes

Landon's hair was effortlessly pushed upward, as he keeps his eyes on the road. Déjà vu flashes back into my head as I remember about the day we went out for dinner. I couldn't help but smile at the heartfelt stories he's shared with me.

I couldn't confirm that he was telling the truth, but what was there to lie about? I turned my attention back towards the road, leading us towards an outdoor mall. I rose an eyebrow and looked at him, making a face, "We're going shopping?" I asked.

"I kind of have to make a run for something. But there is this one place I wanted to show you," he casually states.

"What is this, a date?" I attacked him, looking at him as if I wasn't interested in his daily routines.

He released a chuckle and looks at me with his daring blue eyes, "If you want it to be."

I scoffed and leaned back against the seat, watching as he parks us in a handicap zone. It occurred to me that we were two totally fine looking young adults, "What are you doing?" I asked, looking at the handicap sign in front of us.

"Perks," he smiles as me as he flashes a wink. He reaches behind my chair, grabbing a handicap sign from the pocket and hooked it on the back-view mirror.

"Right, you're rich," I blankly stated.

Landon glares at me but softens the moment out eyes made contact. He got out of the car and somehow made it over to my side when I was searching through my bag. He opens the door for me and patiently waits for me.

Second thinking his actions, I got out and stood in front of him, "Why are you doing this?" I asked him casually, putting my bag on my shoulder.

"What do you mean?" he questions, closing the door behind me.

I shrugged and made my way towards the entrance of the mall. He tags along behind me just like how Isaiah normally does; however it didn't feel like it annoyed me as much.

The moment we entered the front gate, Landon immediately straightens up and fixed his gold necklace. His smile suddenly turns into a disappearing smirk soon to be replaced by a blank expression. He sticks his hands in his pocket as he peers across the scenery. I was taken aback by the sudden change in mood, but quickly ignored it.

"So why are we here again?" I asked him.

He shook his head and made his way towards one of the luxury stores. Without a second thought, I followed him.

Walking down the outdoor mall, all the stores that were surrounding us were only high-end luxury stores. Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, every single name brand company that you could think of. I swallowed nervously as I suddenly felt out of place.

I was still wearing out school spirit shirt, with a random black denim jacket over myself. I followed him into a random store and I didn't even bother to look at the name. Surrounding the store, were very minimalistic suits and ties lining up against racks. The shop looked squeaky clean; the white marble floor didn't even have a tiny scratch against it, the glass of the windows were almost invisible, while the female workers were dressed in what almost looks like flight attendant uniforms.

"Greetings, Mr. Carthy," a blonde girl with perky breasts that was clearly seen through her blazer enthusiastically greeted him, hooking her arm about his, "We saved our latest editions like you've asked for. Come! Try it on."

I rose an eyebrow at her actions as the rest of the workers acted as if I didn't exist. However, being the lost girl I was, I followed him towards the back of the store near the fitting room. I sat down in one of the leather seats and leaned back, playing with my fingers as I watched the ladies drag Landon back and forth.

For a second, Landon probably forgot he even brought me here in the first place. But it didn't bother me because I was more worried about how left out I was feeling in this mall.

The same worker, the name tag clearly stating "Brittany" drags him into the fitting room in front of me with his arm in one hand and his suits in another. She closes the white blinds behind them and all I could hear from the outside was giggles from her and silence from him.

I slightly cringed at the idea of those two hooking up in the dressing room.

About ten minutes after, the blinds open and all that appeared in front of my eyes was a man beautifully fitted in a navy suit, with a white dress shirt and black bow tie. I bit the bottom of my lip as I soon to notice that I was innocently checking him out.

Brittany follows him a little after as he welcomed himself to the big mirror that was built in a shape of half a hexagon. He knew he looked good. He looked at himself in the mirror with one hand in his pocket, buttoning a button on his jacket as he turns to both of his sides, looking at himself up and down.

I nervously scratched the back of my head, why did I feel myself heating up from his appearance? Yes, he's attractive but I can't just be gushing over good looking guys. Again, I like Colton.

Suddenly thinking about Colton brought back the memory of him hugging another girl. Who is she anyways? She just popped out of the blue.

I stared off into space, wondering about Colton and how much my feelings have been hurting recently because of him. I did a good job of ignoring my feelings until now, when I'm slightly alone and have nothing else to rest my mind into. I felt anger building up in my system as my back started to heat up uncomfortably.

"Let's go," Landon breaks my chain of thought yet again. I blinked up at him, confused as to how he changed out of his suit and back into his old outfit so normally. He holds the black bag in one hand as he sticks his other hand into his pocket, casually strolling out of the shop.

He held the door for me as I exit after him.

We walked silently through the mall, looking at merchandise through the window.

"Why aren't you talking to me?" I questioned in, rather curiously.

He rose an eyebrow as me and scoffs slightly, "I am."

I stopped my track as soon as I realize his sudden change in attitude. I growled as my fists clenched, "Seriously?"

He sensed the toxicity in my voice as he turns around on his heels, staring at me blankly before taking a step towards me.

"Why are you being like this?" I hissed underneath my breath, looking up at him as our faces were only inches apart, "I'm tired of your stupid attitude. You asked me to give you a chance, I've given you so many chances. Honestly, why do I even trust you? Even after you apologize to me, technically promising me that you'd change your ways towards me, why are you still treating me like shit?"

He was suddenly taken aback by attack. He probably didn't expect me to suddenly confront him especially from how many times he's had stomped over me. However, my anger built towards Landon was probably also anger that I've felt towards Colton earlier today. Landon, without a doubt grabs my face between his hand as he stares at me deep in my eyes.

Trying not to get lost in him light blue eyes, I pressed my lips together before clenching my fist, continuing with my rampage, "You're just a privileged boy, Landon. You can't treat people good, and you know it. Even when you try to treat me good, you bring my hopes up and then you immediately crush me the moment we're in front of other people. What? Do you think you're better than me? You think I'm just a girl who sits and draws and lets people stomp over me? Like what the fuc—"

My voice was immediately cut off the moment his lips crashed against mine. His soft lips planted against mine quickly turns into a rough kiss. I was so angry at the world that I kissed him back with a lot of force, and without a single care. My hands were resting on his chest, his hands were at my waist. The moment I realized that I was making out with the guy that I plotted to hate my whole life, I pushed him away. Even though I was clearly aware of us making out, I was still shocked that we had that impact in the first place. We both were breathing heavily from the intense kiss.

I wiped my lips, attempting to wipe off his germs before glaring towards the open air. An amused smile plastered across Landon's lip as he brings his hand up towards his lips; resting the back of his palm against it. He releases silent laughter as he looks at my childish tantrum. I had my arms crossed across my chest, eyes glaring off into space, and my lips formed into a frown.

"Alright, I'm sorry," he chuckles in the middle of his apology as he drops his hands from my waist. He positions himself as my side as he nudges my arm, slightly pushing me forwards as we continued our journey down the mall, "Don't be mad at me."
