Chapter 28
Read online · About 5 minutesMari's POV
"No!" I pouted as I throw the dress on my bed, creating a big pile of clothes around it. Mom will be proud if she sees me trying on the clothes that she bought, to be honest.
"Too revealing."
I picked another.
"Too long..."
And another.
"Too ordinary..."
A long sigh escaped my almost quivering lips.
"Why is it that hard to find a something to wear?" I whisper-cry before plopping my body on my bed in surrender.
Z told me we'll go somewhere later and now I'm starting to freak out.
My eyes landed on all the dress scattered on my bed. I didn't know I have this many.
In all honesty, I probably had never worn more than half of them nor have I even saw them before. I pretty sure it was my Mom's doing.
I was startled when I heard the sound of the door opening, revealing my mom. Was it mother’s instinct? How can she suddenly come when I am struggling?
“Mom,” I cooed the moment I saw her. I sat on my bed and she smiled.
“I knew this will happen sooner or later,” she chuckled as she walks to my direction, sitting on the space beside me.
My lips puckered as I listen to her words.
“I knew one day; you’ll spend more than two hours thinking of what clothes to wear just so you can look presentable in front of someone. Not that I don’t trust your fashion sense but were just so used in grabbing anything as long as you are comfortable. I can’t blame you though, we both know you’ll look good no matter what you wear,”
I smiled at what she said.
“Mom, stop boosting my ego. Or are you actually telling to my face that it was because of your genes and dad’s?” I laughed and she also chuckled. I felt her held my cheeks and gently caress it. She looks at me lovingly and smiled.
“I’m happy that you now know what you want and who you love. I can’t say that you and Z will be together forever and that he is your endgame but I am glad that you are giving yourself a chance to explore,”
I smiled at what my mom said. I know she and dad are always worried about me. I also know that they are afraid I’d break down after this.
Being with Z is a huge decision. I was willing to take a risk of our friendship. Being childhood friends and all, it’s not a line or something I can easily cross. Maybe that’s part of the reason why I was so confused of my feelings for him.
“Stop it, Mom. I only have an hour left to prepare. I realized we need to shop one of these days because I can’t seem to find what dress to wear,” I told her and she laughed at how I look. She seems to be having fun at my dilemma. I wonder if she was having a hard time like this back when she and dad were dating.
“Mom, how were you and dad when you were still dating?” I can’t help but asked. She seemed to be taken aback with my question but smiled nonetheless. It was even as if she was enjoying reminiscing their days. I know a few of Mom and Dad’s story but some of them, I only read online.
There was once a point when I got curious about my parents too. I know we were raised to be aware of our family status and what they do for work but at some point, I was crazy curious too. I even learned a lot of things about my other aunt and uncle too.
Uncle Seth and Aunt Zaya was a crazy case though. Even now, there has been no idol that had topped what they’ve been through. Aunt Zaya had been secretly married with uncle Seth even before she became an idol with my parents. But I heard Uncle Storm and Aunt California got together first before them. It was such a crazy situation but all of them happened in so much secrecy.
“Your Dad and I’s relationship was not all butterflies and rainbows. We also came into a rough time and there was a point when we broke up, and that’s both of our fault,” she smiled. She pulled me in for a hug and I wrapped my arms around my mom too.
“But I am so glad we eventually got back together and had you and Latch. Having the two of you are the best things that had happened to us. I will always be willing to sacrifice everything for us, for our family,” she added. At that, my eyes moistened and I hugged her tighter.
Mom is very cool and most often, she’s the one to always back me up with dad. But that doesn’t mean I love my Dad any less. I love them both equally and I will be forever grateful that I am their child.
“Okay, let us stop this drama and get you doll up,”
I bit my lower lip as I remember my current dilemma.
My mom probably saw how dejected I look so she smiled.
“You know Z has seen you in every form possible, right? No matter what you wear, or if you didn’t comb your hair, Z will always look at you the same. That’s how Z had always been with you. He doesn’t even mind if you ransack his closet,”
Soft chuckles escaped my lips at what my Mom said. She’s right though. Z was never like that. Maybe it was because of this new emotion that I am feeling. I want to please him.
For the first time in my life, I wanted to look different in his eyes. I want him to see a different version of me. Is that wrong?
I gulped. I don’t want to change myself into something that I am not to please him though. And for sure, Z wouldn’t like it either.
With that in mind, I decided to grab the best clothes that will make me feel satisfied myself.
