Treasure Island

Robert Louis Stevenson

Complete text
NovelEnglish

Jim Hawkins’s life at an inn changes when an old sailor’s secrets leave him connected to a map and buried treasure. A voyage brings him among sailors whose loyalties are uncertain, including Long John Silver. Adventure demands judgment as well as courage when the expedition divides against itself.

About Treasure Island

Jim’s perspective gives the search its immediacy while leaving him dependent on adults who may be less trustworthy than they appear. Silver’s adaptability complicates easy divisions between charm and danger. Read changes of alliance and possession of supplies alongside the map: material control over food, shelter, and transport can decide what boldness is able to accomplish.

Reading focus

Follow Jim’s changing judgments of the adults around him as maps, supplies, and shifting alliances turn treasure seeking into a test of trust.
