Sense and Sensibility
Complete textAfter their father’s death, the Dashwood sisters face reduced circumstances and an uncertain place in society. Elinor’s reserve and Marianne’s emotional openness shape their responses to courtship and disappointment. New acquaintances bring affection into conflict with money, family obligations, and information that arrives only in fragments.

Reading focus
Compare Elinor’s restraint and Marianne’s openness while tracking the economic pressures and incomplete information behind apparently straightforward romantic choices.
